Wondering what it takes to get a DC-3 started
bodypilot1 replied to Tweek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Very true. When I was in Thailand last year, I had the chance to fly in one for about 5 hours, it was refitted with the turbons by Basler. The Thai Air Force "Rain Makers" owns quite a few of them that are used for seeding clouds, ie; Rain Makers. -

You could give Bill Dause a call at The Parachute Center in Lodi Ca. He could probably give you all the info you need. Be safe Ed www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com -

I nicely mention not to grab my hands as I need them to pull the string. With close to 3000 tandems I have never had anyone grab my hands and be able to hold them. Be safe Ed www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com

I've heard people differentiating the Phoenix Fly tracking suit (pants and jacket) and the Phoenix Fly Wingsuit (V-1), by referring to the tracking garb as the "Phoenix Fly Suit" and the wingsuit as the "V-1". Errrrrr.....ok? Ed www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com

Getting the freefall time you need to be an AFFI can be done in one or two years, but IMO it depends on who you are learning from and the type of skydivers (meaning instructors) you are hanging with at the DZ, if you are going to try and get your AFF rating in that short of time. IMO if you are just doing FF jumps and no RW, you are never going to learn the dynamics to teach AFF. Though learning to FF will help you in some cases in the AFF course. I was there in Phuket, Patong Beach and on the Phi Phi Islands scuba diving last Feb, just after we did the World Team 357way. I can tell you there are no warning systems in place for this type of devastation. The country is far more primative then the US and do not have economy to support such things unfortunatly. The warning system the US has, are buoy's that sit far out at sea and sense the rise and fall of the tide. Should something like this happen, the US could directly detect the unusual rise in the oceans level by each buoy that is closer to land base, and then issue a warning to evecuate. The Tsunami did not create a drop in the tide in this case, and if there was there was probably no way you would have noticed it anyway. The 9.0 quake was detected on a seismograph under NY Central Park. It's truly unfortunate for some for the nicest people I have ever met in my life to experience such devastation, and I am truly saddened. I agree to a curtain extent, but then I have seen some TI's that can not skydive worth a shit without throwing a drouge and having someone strapped to them. Just being in the sport for 3 years will season them abit, but during that time they must apply themselves to teaching. After they get the TI rating, and depending at what type of DZ they are working at, will get them to be better at learning good teaching skills that can be applied to the AFF course.
