  2. Go to The Farm. My opinion comes from that of a longtime jumper that has served as an instructor, DZ staffer, manager, and owner. Just got back from a big event at The Farm and I watched the student program as it operated in the midst of a big, busy boogie. That's hard to do and they did it very well. I'm old school when it comes to training - no excuses, train your students well and keep them safe. That's what I saw at The Farm. As important as the training is, the DZ you train at is equally important. The planes from The Farm take off at the airport where ASC operates. I was there for an entire week, so I had a chance to see both operations. Every time I saw people jumping at ASC, it was tandems and video staff, and they were landing in a very tight area bordered by buildings, power lines, and trees. Don't get me wrong. I'm not dissing ASC. Rather I'm plugging The Farm. Trace the history of skydiving and you'll learn there has developed a divide between DZ's run by people who are trying to promote the sport and those run by people trying to promote their bank accounts. While there of course has to be a profit-sided middle ground for a business to stay in business, some DZ's have actually hurt skydiving with unscrupulous business practices while using the sport we all love as the vehicle for those practices. Not cool - but that's for you to do your own research. Back on track. I met some of the coolest people in my 25 years in the sport at The Farm. Talented too. Want to get better fast? I suggest The Farm. It's a very active DZ with lots of people of all experience levels. That's the best environment to learn in - you will learn to interact with those around you to learn by osmosis. No other method of learning reaches as deeply into your understanding. Yes, the bonfire has a purpose. Hans and his crew at Skydive the Farm run a damn good drop zone. I can give them my very best recommendation. Let us all know what you decide to do. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  3. Big thanks to everyone that I got a chance to jump with over the past week. We made some terrific jumps and learned a bunch. That nice TeXXas 20-way star over the DZ on Saturday evening was almost too easy! Great to meet new faces and see old ones getting older. and the Farm rocks! See you next year!! 4. Redbull See you there! Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX

  6. Hey Skyfesters, I'm looking for a camera flyer or flyers for my RW group. We are starting small on Tuesday and working toward 20-way sequential. Probably lots of firsts, so there will be opportunities to sell prints and copies of the video. PM me or e-mail chuckakers@comcast.net Thanks - see y'all Monday afternoon for registration! 7. Chuck is an EXCELLENT organizer! If you have not jumped with him you should!! Bummed I am currently forced to stay on the ground. [in my best John Wayne voice] "Well thanks, little lady. Wish you were able to saddle up with the posse." Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  8. Hell yeah!! Let's boogie!!! Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  9. Hey Skyfesters! Just a quick note to let you know I'll be there bright and early Tuesday morning organizing belly flyers! We'll start with all comers with a plan to build the group to 20-ways by the weekend. Not ready for 20-ways? Be there early and take advantage of load organizers ready to get you in the air on fun, quality jumps. 20-way solid? Be there early and stake your claim to a slot! 20+ ways and formation loads by the weekend, anyone? Somewhere in between? Be there early to earn your place!! Seein' a pattern here? C'mon Skyfesters, let's jump! Chuck Akers FS Organizer, Skyfest 2010 Dirt Dive: 9am, Tuesday, June 15, 2010, The Farm Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  10. That's right, and Obama has said publicly that BP isn't making a single move without HIS administration's approval. His words, not mine. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  11. Pretty much says it all. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  12. Any details on Mark's death would be respectfully appreciated. Just remembered...I busted my first cloud with Mark on my level 4 AFF. That was a cool skydive.
  13. Stick your legs out...in a tunnel. One weekend of tunnel time with custom-built coaching should solve that problem and several others you haven't thought of or encountered yet. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  14. I knew Skippy from the "old Spaceland" circa 1987. Truly one of a kind and a sweetheart of a man. I remember when I met him he always had some crazy story about being a champion army boxer or landing a T-10 on a supermarket rooftop for a grand opening demo. I always thought it was BS until I went to his house and saw the newspaper articles of his antics framed on the walls all over his house. Skippy was family to whoever knew him. Made a damn fine dirty rice too. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  15. Wow, bummer. Mark owned Parachutes & Associates in Frankfurt, Indiana when I began jumping in 1985. He was a big part of the reason I kept coming back. I learned a tremendous amount from him and he ran a damn nice DZ full of great people. Just saw him a few months ago. It was nice to say hello. RIP, Slyde. Thanks for everything. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  16. If my memory serves me correctly, there were a couple incidents a few years ago involving guys who ended up in their canopies attempting backloops. Anyone remember details? Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  17. I suppse you can tell whether a book is any good by the picture on the front too? Thats a talent you got there you know. And only one of many. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  18. Didn't finish the read nor is there a need... ....troll. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  19. In a word, no. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  20. Got the inner bi-cep on my left arm ripped off during a funneled 6-way Otter exit. The surgery was pretty simple. The recovery was easy. Not too much pain, just some soreness and stiffness. I was near 100% in a month. Or maybe it was the painkillers. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  21. Let me make sure I have this right. Someone at a drop zone told you to just buy your own gear and start jumping? Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  22. Sounded more to me like a religiously targeted remark. Unless Muslim has somehow become a race. As for the extremists that want us dead, f*ck them. Wrap their asses in bacon and bury em alive facing west in a grave filled with Jack Daniels and Hustler magazines. Mmmmm, bacon. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  23. I know you knew that, but thought it would interest others to know the rules eleswhere. Great, next time someone has a question about skydiving in the US, I'll be sure to ask you about the global ramifacations of it before answering. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  24. The dude's in the US and I was answering his question. But thanks for that. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
  25. The pilot was wrong for being in the cloud in the first place. He/she was also wrong for turning on the green light, in affect giving permission for the jump. The jumpers yelling for people to exit were wrong. If your coach was planning on exiting while in the cloud, he/she was wrong. If the DZO allows the pilots to drop jumpers in clouds, he/she is wrong. If your S&TA (assuming you jump at a USPA DZ) allows jumpers to exit while in clouds, he/she is wrong. Seeing a pattern here? I can't tell you if you're a wanker, but I can say that in this case you weren't. I also can't tell you how f*cking sick I am of people who not only think it's ok to bust FAR's, but also think it's ok to order other people to break them too. Stand your ground. The cloud rules are there for a reason. And for you f*cksticks that were yellin' at my man to jump, shut the f*ck up and sit down. He was doing the right thing. Save your horsesh*t for the bonfire.
