Tandem person shooting their own video?
sabr190 replied to tandemking's topic in Photography and Video
I agree with AggieDave, I have about 300 tandems and see no need to complicate thing for me right now. I also agree that you probably don't get the same quality video. MHO -

Aggie Dave, I spoke to PD last week and was told to expect the 150 and 170 out this summer. I hope I am at the top of the list for a demo

Thanks Terry, I just want to make sure I am "legal" on this issue, I think I will just remove it completely for now, just to be on the safe side. I would be curious what your FAA friend has to say about it, please keep me posted. Thanks again. Bill

Thanks, I guess my next step will be to contact Subpath and ask them.

At your experience level I would have to agree with the instructor who said to go to your emergency procedures. Line over mals can cause a lot of different reactions from slow side to side rocking on light wingloads to full out spirals highly wingloaded canopies. Also depends on the location of the line over, endcell line over can sometimes be cleared, where a center cell line over is probably impossible to clear. Just my .02 cents. As a S&TA I keep two copies of a four page article written by a manufacturer on the pros and cons of using an RSL, which I give to any student or 1000 jump skydiver who asks. By doing this I keep my personal opinions out of the decision making process of the student or 1000 jump skydiver. As your statement above is your opinion, which you gave to the 100 jumper, possibly affecting his or her decision. For safety concerns for inexperienced jumpers, RSL's are a great redundant safety system and it is easier to explain this if it appears I have one. Understand, I don't disagree with anyones decision to have an RSL. Back to the original question, since I noticed you are a senior rigger, is my fake RSL an infraction to any FAR?

I had my RSL altered, by this I mean the ring that goes to the reserve cable and excess lanyard past the the velcro under the reserve riser have been removed. Which makes it appear that I have a RSL, but in fact it does nothing more than decorate my riser now. I did this because when working with students and low-timers it kept the "why don't you have an RSL?" questions to a minimum. I think RSL's are a great safety item for students and low-timers, at least until they have the experinece to make the decision to have or not have one. Recently I was visiting a DZ and the person checking in my gear said that if my rig has an RSL it must be connected and function properly. Since I am not a rigger I have no idea if this is correct, does it have to be completely assembled and installed? I can find nothing in the FAR's about this. Okay, last question as I put the finishing touches on my camera helmet. Can the small flat clear pigtail after the LED indicator be trimmed at all? I can see small copper wires that dead end in the pigtail, but I don't want to trim it if will screw up the Cam Eye. I have mounted the indicator in the best place for my personal taste, but if I could trim a 1/8 of an inch off that pigtail it would be perfect. All answers appreciated. Okay, for the people who no longer have the butterflies before the door opens, raise your hand. I'll wait for the next load. On S/L v AFF Both are excellent avenues to experience. Nobody should bash either method. "The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few, or the one" - rehmwa

I say good job Elfanie! I had my first reserve ride in much the same way you did. With one exception, I jacked with mine way to long and almost killed myself, under reserve 700ft. I have had 4 reserve rides in my 1200 jumps. At your level of experience your reaction is more than acceptable. Besides, the first reserve ride tells the story........you will pull the handles if you need to. Bill "The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few, or the one" - rehmwa

Amazing, this debate will go on forever. Too late to change the mistake. Hopefully the Rangers will forgive the ignorance of those who made the change. "The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few, or the one" - rehmwa

A buddy of mine and I used to buy the cheap little cameras from wal-mart and splice in a momentary switch that we got from radio shack. Worked great and was CHEAP! If your camera has the built in flash be careful of the capacitor, it'll knock the piss out of you while soldering. "The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few, or the one" - rehmwa
