That is far removed from the original piont of this thread and nobody here has sanctioned that kind of waste. Very few hunters, dumbass as you call them would do that, (I am not saying it does not happen completly) and most if they knew it was done would be just as disgusted as you claim to be. The original point of this whole thread I believe was about the seal hunt in Canada, a strictly controlled and monitored event which many people around the world, and apparently that includes you, choose to protest against based on a lot of pictures of the cute little baby seals (not the ones being harvested) and alot of emotional and unfounded claims, such as the live skinning (lot od bull). I'd suggest doing it when there are a bunch of local jumpers in the office. I had a similar situation about 12 yrs ago in Toronto when a restaurant my wife was working for was stiffing and stalling on wages. I walked in and demanded her money just before the dinner time crowd would arrive. He said He "didn't have it" I said "i'll be back in half an hour, If you don't pay, I'll create enough noise that all your customer leave" He had the money after all!!!! Go front up. You do realize of course it's a tradition and not an attack on you personally just get you to buy beer. The tradition goes right back to the roots of Skydiving. I bought for my first jump in 73, and for every first since then. Including buying for some completely made up firsts. Why? It's part of the spport, it's a mjor tradition to most people who have been involved for any length of time. It's not about the beer, It's not about getting something for nothing from "YOUR PEERS" It's about sharing the experiance you've just had with your peers. If you choose not to buy, it's your choice. You'd be far from the first to do so. But when everyone else is sharing that case of beer around the fire or bar, make sure you walk away and don't take one for yourself. I am not a base jumper so just my opinion on this for what it's worth. When I first stumbled across the list I found a friend of mine there. I sent you a photo of her and you added it to her entry in the list. I hope some one looking through that list and seeing the photos of people there will connect with the human side and not just the data involved in each incident. I hope that by reading this list and connecting to those people involved, that people will learn to be be safer and that enjoyment of this exciting aspect of the sport parchuting world will be enhanced. Agreed! The whole point of the beer thing was the shared experiance. When I started this sport in 73 the social aspect was every bit as important as the jumping. When you here the oldtimers complaining about the good old days, it's not the crappy dangerous gear they are lamenting, it's the comradery and sense of belonging to a unique and special group of humans. I think I'll call Bull on this piont Have you seen the old Green peace tape where they used the skinning alive argument to make their piont. In the course of a 30 minute documentary they showed one (1) hunter who skinned a live seal and showed it over and over many many times to imply that it was happening in a regular manner. I not saying it didn't happen then and that it doesn't happen now. I saying that the emotional side of this argument is guilty of a gross misrepresentation of facts and blatant manipulation of missleading images to push thier piont across. The people doing the hunting are earning a living. Though I've never been a hunter myself I would assume it's a hell of a lot harder to skin a live seal then a dead one so why would anyone do it that way other then when the occasional mistake is made and the hunter starts to skin one he thinks is dead? Firstly - I am glad the marine is not being charged things like that happen in the heat of battle and the men and women who are there putting thier lives at risk don't need the extra concerns this could raise. Secondly As a Canadian, (Half french Canadian), Canada as such never ceded from France as it was never part of France, having been taken over by the British prior to the American war of independance and prior to the Confederation of Canada.
