Linda Norgrove: aid worker 'killed by friendly fire'
remibond replied to remibond's topic in Speakers Corner
News that a British aid worker captured in Afghanistan may have been accidentally killed during a rescue attempt by US Special Forces. -
1) No. Many western European governments have issued similar warnings including the UK and German governments. France has also raised its own alert level to red which the second highest level they have, scarlet coming first. The Eiffel Tower has been evacuated twice recently because of bomb threats. So again, no. 2) See 1

Wasteland: Europe stalked by spectre of mass unemployment
remibond replied to dreamdancer's topic in Speakers Corner
Not only would it be fun, it would also create jobs! Advertising, building, health and safety...we'd be out of recession in no time! By the way Skyrad, are you in the Republic or the North? -
Benedict XVI describes paedophilia as an 'illness'
remibond replied to remibond's topic in Speakers Corner
He is the head of a morally questionable organisation that ingages in immoral (and in some cases illegal) acts. He is also one of the most powerful men in the world. So in answer to your questions, the offenders in question are above the law because, well, they are part of an organisation powerful enough to be. It doesn't make it right, it just requires an equally powerful group to do something about it. On the other hand there may well have been a time when the current Pope thought it to be in the best interests of the Catholic Church as a whole to simply cover these cases up for the greater good or some other reason he believed morally justified his actions. What occured to me was the irony or paradoxical nature of describing paedophilia as an illness but then going on to condemn those engaging in it. Again, just providing some balance. -

British teenager 'banned from US over drunken email to Barack Obama'
remibond replied to remibond's topic in Speakers Corner
Typed from the Times because the website requires subscription to view. The above indicates he did, in fact, threaten Obama. -
Maybe a few hundred years ago but to say that today is simply codswallop. Not necessarily, I have quite a few friends who though they aren't practicing Jews still identify themselves as Jewish and take part in most ceremonies & traditions...though the latter could be from parental pressure

If you're gonna slam religion, at least get your mythology straight. The people were created last. And let us not forget that it was only six days, God kicked back on the 7th because he could

An interesting idea but unfortunately that's all it will ever be, arresting the pope in the U.K is far more likely to harm the country than help it.

Honestly, I'm split between keeping it current and saying anything from the Expendables and going old school Bruce Lee
