  1. Maybe. The situation was handled poorly by both sides. A simple compromise could have averted the subsequent fall out and need for this thread. This could be looked at from different angles, but since the topic is just too good not to play devil's advocate...the students wearing of american flag bandana's shows a clear intent to provoke mexican members of the school. Whether you want there to be or not, it is clear an issue would have arisen from this regardless of the VP's actions. I don't get off on limiting peoples free speech, patriotism (on both sides) is something to be proud of. Just don't start bitching (generally) when others take offence.
  2. What can I say, people have a short memory. But in the same breath you could argue that Brown as a Chancellor is being blamed for thing that wern't entirely within his control. After all, the only way we could have avoided this particular recession is if we were entirely economically independent from the rest of the world. On a smaller scale, compare the relative economies of the Republic of Ireland (€) & the UK (£). Ireland is far worse off because they cannot devalue their currency as it is tied into Europe. ...I seem to have forgotten what my point was
  3. I don't think the MacMillan/Hume govts of the early 60s showed much business sense, and Ed. Heath certainly misjudged badly the mood of the country over the miners. Though the Heath issue misses the point, it being a matter of the Home Office not the Chancellors, the same could be argued about Callaghan in the 70's and the situation that became apparent at the end of Blair's glory days. The sad truth is that politics is about picking the lesser of two evils. Or maybe I'm just getting cynical in my youth
  4. The powers of paraphrasing. A mere few lines apart in the same article. It would appear that whatever his intentions, the outcome could still be the same. I don't support the principles actions. I do condemn the students serious lack of judgement. Students lack of judgement? When did standing up and not being intimidated by gangs become a bad thing? Not standing up for yourself and choosing your battles are two different things. They created an issue where there didn't need to be one.
  5. Even though they got more votes than the Greens (who have a seat), Plaid Cyrmu & Sinn Fein combined. Gotta love the UK election system

  7. Honestly for all of their faults I don't think we have any alternative to the conservatives. For all of Gordons cries of being the savious HE got us into this mess in the first place. Really? Because last time I checked, the rest of the world was on a very similar sinking boat to ours. Are you saying Brown is responsible for them too? Don't get me wrong (and this goes for you too rushmc), I'm not saying either Brown or Labour are perfect and I'm not implying the Conservatives are the epitome of all evil. In fact I think I have more conservative traits than liberal ones (schooling, healthcare, business economy & defence to name a few), but looking back over the past half century Labour governments have generally been far more successful that Tory ones and I see no indication of this one being any different. Successful how? (serious question to get on the same page with you) Labour has generally been the more stable party over the past 50 years. Apart from the winter of discontent (which lead to ever more rioting in the Thatcher era) the largest economic depressions the country has seen have been under Conservative governments, the current one notwithstanding. Labour have also shown more 'progressive reform', if you want to use that phrase, such as the legalisation of homosexuality & abortion under Wilson in the 60's (I think). All that being said, I do think Conservative govts have always shown better business sense, as well as the things I mentioned in an earlier post. edited for spelling
  8. I don't follow UK politics so Why would people regret voting conservative over there? Is it like those regretting their Obama vote over here? Serious answer: No, it's like regretting their Bush vote over here. As an aside, it would be great if a mere 30% of Americans failed to vote. The things we take for granted... Bush got it twice so your spin is wrong Unless Obama gets in twice which right now is a fat chance As for the mere 30%? I agree Exactly, Bush was in for 8 years. Obama's been in for 1. At least give the man a chance to fuck up before you start damning him. Now stop thread hijacking

  10. I just wonder how long it will take the people who voted conservative to regret it and the people who didn't vote (all 30% of them) to regret not voting
  11. Well the scenery is great this time of the year
  12. No excuses, resizer.exe Link If you have a mac you can just open Preview, go to tools and click adjust size. Oh, and this thread is worthless without pics
  13. The closest comparable law I can think of (with regards to stop and search) is Section 44 of the Terrorism Act in the UK. Since it was brought in in 2000, 'random' stop and searches of black and asian people have risen by more than four times compared to any other ethnicity. Coincidence? We all know that the police is an institutionally racist organisation. Either deal with it or do something about it, but either way bitching about something that's always been an open secret doesn't achieve anything
  14. Sorry to state the obvious, but in none of this did you mention anything about the husband respecting the wife. Believe it or not women have feelings too and it is just as damaging to a relationship if he belittles her as if...ah, fuck it
  15. Dude that has got to be the single DUMBEST statement made on these boards EVER... _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Struck a nerve, eh? What did I say that isn't true? Cheers, Jon No not even a small nerve, it was just that your post is so small minded and misogynistic it was laughable, so too the biblical dribble you just posted. If you truley believe both of your posts, i can only say WELCOME TO THE 21ST CENTURY DUDE. We have television, radio, computers, iPods and educated emancipated women. But dont let the women scare you they are still mostly soft and squidgy and fun to cuddle.

  17. By your own admission you regularly drive 85-90 mph. I drive all over the USA and know of no section of highway that those speeds aren't 10-15 mph faster than the vast majority of traffic. The fact that your speeds are out of the ordinary for whatever roads you travel is backed up by your getting stopped by cops. THAT, my dear fellow, is reckless driving any way you care to look at it, otherwise know as "driving like a D-Bag". Do everyone a favor and save it for a racetrack or other closed course. BTW, if your drive is 50 miles, you save a WHOPPING 4.7 minutes by driving 85 instead of 75! If the majority of traffic is travelling faster than the speed limit it is safer both for you and those around you if you go with the flow of traffic. Excessively slow drivers can be just as dangerous as excessively fast ones. Also dude said the limit was 50mph where he was so you may want to recalculate. On topic, I've never had any major problems with cops in London, at least not while I was being a law abiding citizen . The last time i was in the states though I got stopped more times than I have ever been in all my life here. Conclude what you will
  18. Just to get all the facts out...Hitler was an illegal alien. He was from Austria and illegally in Germany. Had Weimar Germany had a legal tool like the Arizona law on its books, Hitler's ass would have been deported back to Austria where it belonged following his Beer Hall Putsch, and Hitler would never have come to power in Germany. So is your point that unless all illegal immigrants are deported, Arizona will turn into the new 3rd (4th) Reich? Or was it more a look at the irony of Hitler persecuting people in a country that he wasn't originally of?
  19. Yes, in fact. I once knew a white male from the UK who was arrested at one of the Border Patrol checkpoints near San Diego and then deported. He wasn't, from a race or national origin perspective, the typical illegal alien one would find near San Diego, but he was nevertheless an illegal alien, and justice is blind as to race and/or national origin. I wasn't going to get involved, but really?
