Flyingferret?? LOL! Now that's a nic I'd be interested in hearing the origins of! Pammi "The question is not whether we will die, but how we will live." http://trak.to/skydivechick

Glad you had such a good time Wingie! It just takes one of those kickass jumps to make it all come back

You might call them to be sure, but I think Mike at OSC will let you jump at 16 or older with parental consent. Like I said, double-check tho. It's a good place to learn...very safe. Tony and Mike both are excellent teachers! They webpage is here Oklahoma Skydiving Center, give him a call and see. Perhaps leg positioning also? My main issue, and apparently a fairly common one, was the legs-up-ass syndrome which sped the spins up a lot. The extremely violent spin I got into I had to track out of first then re-arch. It's pretty scary if you get going that fast...but ya know, first rule is pull, regardless. Even if you're spinning, just get it out. Be careful out there guys! Pammi "The question is not whether we will die, but how we will live." -Joan Borysenko

Hey Kris! Welcome to the forums...have you been lurking? Just wanted to say "hi" after realizing it was you. I'm sure you'll have some good input for us ...you've definately helped me out more then a time or two at the DZ! See ya! Hey there Skyemom! I'm just catching up on all the posts after being gone all weekend and see we have a new poster joining us! Perhaps you've already introduced yourself and I just haven't found it yet :) But I wanted to say welcome, and if you need some help with getting a pic up, I'd be glad to try to assist, or Cyberskydiver is the 'master' at pic manipulation. *laughing* I remember thinking a lot of times "I'm actually paying someone a lot of money for the 'priviledge' of doing this shit!!" Insane! I love it! LOL! Pammi "The question is not whether we will die, but how we will live." -Joan Borysenko

I love that word! HEHE! It's all good guys...if we weren't 'wankers' (snicker) sometimes, we prob'ly wouldn't be skydivers either :) Pammi "The question is not whether we will die, but how we will live." -Joan Borysenko

I read something the other day about how fear is a lot of times just lack of knowledge. People tend to be afraid of things they don't know or don't understand. While whuffos get that glazed over look listening to our stories, I think it's good for them. It has been to my family. I guilt them into listening to all of that, and how everything works, and now Mom bought a skydive for my brother for his birthday! Something I really never expected to happen after she bitched so much about me doing it in the beginning. She knows more about it now tho, and isn't as nervous about it as she was. I still gotta see that one...heard it's hilarious... "The question is not whether we will die, but how we will live." -Joan Borysenko

Ah well, mine is from a lack of imagination :) Obviously! I used it cuz I've been told I have multiple personality issues

Hmmm..someone offering to buy beer and being told NOT to. What a concept! Tell ya what, give me a credit card/debit card #, I'll go buy some and drink it for ya! Pammi "The question is not whether we will die, but how we will live." -Joan Borysenko

EW! That's implying I have one to compare! ICK! The only one I 'have' is attached to Merrick

I agree with Screamer that whatever someone chooses to do is their own thing...but that's my 'life philosphy' anyway. *shrug* I don't think Lazer was trying to bring up an old debate tho...just posting something humorous he found on the web and if others hookturn regularly and are okay with it, who cares? That wasn't really the point...it was just a joke. If you do it, you're okay with it, then go to it! Don't get defensive about it tho...just shrug and say "Welp, that's your opinion." None of us are 'all-knowing' so don't get upset with someone else's opinion..that's all it is. Like Dad used to say (being a hick and all like we are) "Opinions are like assholes..everyone has one!" Well that's my long-winded version of what Brandon was trying to say. Just chill! If you're okay with hookturns, cool. If you're not, cool too. My .02 as usual

I hear ya Jess...I can still look at the scar on my arm as a reminder of my first hop n' pop where I pulled on my own after the practice pulls. I was freaked for quite a while after that! Then I did a diving exit hop n' pop from 4500 a few weekends ago and was so intent on pulling quickly that I didn't arch very well and it was kinda a nutso thing too. Was okay, and I just laughed about how bad I probably looked, but I guess I just screwed up so often and had to do so many low exits, freefall is what took me forever to not be scared of! That spinning stuff was aweful! Out-of-control feelings when you're going very fast, and frustrating when it's not so fast but you can't seem to stop it. ARGH! We all seem to have our things that bug us more then others...it makes it really great when you pull it off well tho! :) Pammi "The question is not whether we will die, but how we will live." -Joan Borysenko

Thank you guys so much! This was kinda an older post from a few weeks ago, but I really appreciate all the support I get here! I really am having such a good time now, and it was quite a deal getting over one thing after another in my progression. The last jump I did, two weekends ago, was my best ever too! My JM came up and hugged me when I got down and the DZO kept telling me how sweet my landing was (winds were a bit high, but not bad). I just have to do tracks away then back to the JM this weekend and I'm officially done! Then I can hit a few more accuracy landings and get my A! Heaven help everyone when I get that...you'll see the longest post in history! hehe! (Oh and King...thanks for the 'advice'...I'll keep that in mind! LOL! I hope I can get a little better by the time my family finally comes and watches me jump very soon...I'll never hear the end of the laughing if not! LOL!) You're signed off?! Woohoo!! Congratulations!! That feels great doesn't it??? I hope I can say the same thing come Monday...cross your fingers! :) Pammi Oh, and Mountainman, I think it depends on the progression you do. I did IAD, so started out at 3500', so hop n' pop's are actually kinda fun to me. If there are some low clouds, I will go do some of them just to get up there..a jump's a jump! I have heard a lot of AFF grads saying that the hop n' pop was bad for them tho...it seems much lower after being used to going from 10,000 at least! Ah well shit..now I'm an 'old hand'...that helped with the ole' birthday rolling up! LOL! "The question is not whether we will die, but how we will live." -Joan Borysenko

ROFLMAO! You can have it Kel girl! I've seen Merrick try to pack a student rig (F111!) and no way I want to do that full-time! I'll starve myself and not eat all summer if necessary to pay for my jumps if it came to that rather then pack. You're awesome! Pammi "The question is not whether we will die, but how we will live." -Joan Borysenko

HA! Glad to know I'm not the only one still workin' on the whole standup thing. I get so much flack for that! LOL! Pammi "The question is not whether we will die, but how we will live." -Joan Borysenko

Is that common at most DZ's if you go to a new one? Wow. Pammi "The question is not whether we will die, but how we will live." -Joan Borysenko

I absolutely hate packing, so I'm like Freaksis...I only pack when I have to! However, I've noticed I can pack my canopy pretty easily now. I've gotten used to her I guess. I *did* pack Merrick's two weekends ago for him, and it was a huge pain. His is slippery and larger then mine. I don't think packers get paid nearly enough, regardless of however much they get! LOL! I can't even imagine packing those huge student rigs. ICK! It makes me nervous packing for anyone but me too. I was scared to death when Merrick jumped the one I did for him...I guess I'm okay with packing a mal for myself if it happens, but would hate for it to happen to someone else because of me! Maybe I'll get used to it enough to not feel that way later, but for now, I prefer just packing my own when I HAVE to :) Pammi "The question is not whether we will die, but how we will live." -Joan Borysenko
