  1. It's a fascinating subject. I've spent lots if time pondering. Promiscuity sucks and is unhealthy for all involved. I spent most of a 20 year marriage longing for a polyamourous relationship as my wife was a bitch and I longed for a loving relationship. Honesty is the key. Then it purely depends on your joint emotional and physical needs. My best friend is a female in a relationship. We travel together, spend lots of time together and yet she is in a relationship. Her partner knows about us and there are no secrets. I think the strict monogomy model results in unhappiness when physical or emotional needs aren't met by a partner. Keep it in the open and that is less of an issue. I don't have an issue with sexual sharing if its by mutual consent and that must involve all parties with no manipulation. 3. I got shown this Finnish movie over the weekend. What a great slant on Christmas :) https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=kCaC-uaMsvg Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  4. You can't be serious talking about education? It was a 2 year old! Maybe American kids should be taught how to shoot a gun before they are allowed to stop breastfeeding. Something that never ceases to amaze me is how similar the value systems are in the US and the Islamic heartlands of the middle East... Boobs are bad, guns are good, everyone is out to get you and religion is king Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

Thanks. They don't have transport as they are using public transport. Will ask her specifics. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

    Vancouver?

Hi All, Are there any jumpers in Vancouver (preferably female) that are prepared to let a couple of 19 year old girls sleep over for a couple of nights in January? My daughter and her friend are on a low cost budget and to be honest I'm not overly enthusiastic about the whole couch surfing thing. Thanks, Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  8. I'm not stupid enough to introduce her to free fliers ;) Thought I introduced you though? Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

  10. Wow. Spent the day showing a visitor around and took her for a tandem. She's a research scientist with degree in aeronautical engineering. She's spent a fair amount of time on the parabolic flights (zero g research) Interesting speaking to a whuffo who "really" knows how parachutes work Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  11. Following your posts it appears that your mind is made up. But in the interest of giving you a datapoint. I've got just under 500 jumps and am on exactly the same wingloading that you are proposing on a Sabre 2 135. I love canopy flight, am 40 years old and struggle with depth perception. This means that my landings often really suck and I know that I am below average. I've about 100 jumps on the 135 and I am still finding that I am really having to concentrate hard on landing on no wind days. Added to the above, the most confronting skydiving fatality I have witnessed was a person turning a Sabre 2 135 into the ground approximately 10m from me and my kids. The sound of the impact still haunts me 12 years later. Having considered that I am jumping much less, and the fact that I am thinking about landing as I setup in the door, I've decided to sell the canopy. I've got a 149 Crossfire on order - I've gone brand new as I won't be downsizing, this canopy will last me the rest of my jumping career. I've jumped a Crossfire and it has the ability to really get thrown around, but more importantly for me at the lower wingloading I can just relax and fly it slowly when I want to. I'm highly unlikely to be a "current" jumper and will probably stick to doing 3-5 jumps a month for the foreseeable future. My thoughts are stay on the 150, travel meet new skydivers experience different dropzones and weather patterns. Some of the best skydivers I know only downsized every 1000 jumps or so. You perform better and learn more when you aren't at the limit of your adrenaline arousal curve as well. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  12. I tried it for a while. I think most healthy balanced people are better off meeting people through common interests. That said my brother was living in the country and met his partner online. They are really happy. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  13. Educate me. Why does having 10 year old software matter? Does something happen to software over time? This is mainly relevant for AAD firmware in the advent new features are added to the firmware. This happened only once in the ~20 year history of AADs though. Cypres added altitude offset (raise/lower fire altitude) to its units recently, and have been updating them whenever they get sent in for their four year inspection. But that's been the only change to the firmware on any AAD that I know of since inception. Philosophically, I would not want an AAD that would *need* its firmware updated every four years. That is a sign of very very shitty software design and implementation, and fuck that I'm not trusting my life to that. Airtec state that they update firmware as part of the 4 year service, but not what they do. As far as I'm aware no firmware revision is published so we don't know how often they do updates. 14. You had me at "boobies"! He means the "blue footed" kind. Well if the water is cold enough to turn their feet blue, then the nipples will be nice and perky Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

  17. Have you completed a canopy course? How 'bout a course with a focus on performance flight? Your profile indicates you have about 150 jumps. If that's correct you are in a danger zone and would only go deeper by downsizing or moving to an elliptical. My advice is to stay where you are and seek coaching and guidance from a top-shelf performance piloting coach before doing anything. Not the hottest swooper you know, but a true professional that does it for a living. If you want to swoop like a pro get educated by one. I think it's an interesting question and different to the typical downsize ones. A sabre 1 is a fairly docile beast and from his post I would think that it makes sense to switch to an elliptical plan form (even a Sabre 2) is quite a good improvement before going any smaller. *not disputing that a canopy course is a great idea Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

  19. I'm curious about Zimbabwe's call for extradition. Doesn't he have to be indicted? Unless I missed seeing it, I haven't seen any specific charges. I think our extradition treaty specifies that his "crime" must be illegal in both countries. How can this be determined without Zimbabwe formally charging him? I've seen "illegal hunting" and "poaching" mentioned, but I haven't seen anything like "Palmer has been charged with xxxx". It is posturing. Zimbabwe and the US have very poor relations and it's pretty typical for them to politicize the issue and portray it. 20. Funniest thing I've read in a long time. Is that your expert opinion on how things work in africa? If I had to guess I'd say you've never been to africa, and probably never stepped out of the united states. OK I'll bite. What's your "expert" opinion and basis for saying he is wrong? What he said was true of Southern Africa - based on growing up there with relatives and friends who ran game ranches (for hunting). Non hunters made up the bulk of tourists, but like tandems it was the hunts that brought in the big money. ... My opinion is based by the fact Cecil, the Lion we're talking about was killed by a hunter that payed a lot of money to a professional hunter that organizes those hunts. Do you really believe any of that money went to conservation? Do you believe it's the only time this has happened? Do you believe the local authorities have no knowledge of people having done this before? Also, there's a big difference between zimbabwe and south africa. If those big amounts of money were all going to conservation, there would not be private hunting ranches. Those ranches exist because the owners make loads of money. Animals lare ured or taken from national parks to fenced ranches. Same for the money paid in permits for safaris, treks, etc, it is notoriously known money is stolen and diverted for personnal gain. Only a tiny fraction is being used for what it should. I've been to africa, my g/f lived in Kenya and is a biologist and currently a professional guide in eastern africa. Corruption is rampant, crimes go unpunished and while there are some exceptions, many animal populations are not doing very good. Firstly I said Southern Africa not South Africa. I'm from Zimbabwe and believe me I know the difference between the two countries. Corruption is rampant AND this was clearly poaching not hunting so no in this case the money did not go to conservation. You may notice that I used past tense in my previous post. In Zimbabwe since the land 'redistribution' most of the wildlife has been wiped out. Ironically because the pro hunters who ran sustainable operations were chased off. In South Africa, Botswana and a couple of others I believe the sustainable operations are still functional. South Africa will go down the same path as Zimbabwe, I don't think Botswana will. What he said was true of Southern Africa - based on growing up there with relatives and friends who ran game ranches (for hunting). Non hunters made up the bulk of tourists, but like tandems it was the hunts that brought in the big money. Generally speaking it was good for business to have a reasonable variety of game in descent quantities to bring in the tourists. Also the whole aspect of statistical populations. On a game ranch that is fenced to protect the animals you can only support a limited population you have to manage the population and don't go dreaming that you can relocate the old and weak. 22. There is so much miss information and bullshit going on around this story it is amazing. Firstly the idiot is a poacher not a hunter. Secondly as someone who grew up around pro hunters in Zimbabwe (brother in law managed a game ranch). It is far more complicated than people believe. The 'trophies' used to be carefully managed in Zimbabwe and the shooting of older animals paid for substantial conservation work, ultimately creating a sustainable wild life ecosystem. Obviously Zimbabwe is fucked now and I doubt that the wildlife permit system does anything more than line Bob's pockets. Ironic that people are up in arms about a 13 year old lion, in a country that is so fucked that average person doesn't live much longer than 40 years. 25. Exactly! I've just got stung by someone 'doing good' and will see what fallout tomorrow brings. In my case I got far too close to a friend who is in a relationship. No physical cheating, but we got way across the line emotionally. Sunday we agreed to end our friendship as it was unhealthy and would let her work on her relationship. Some fuckwit who know decided to group message myself, this girl and her boyfriend with their 'helpful' advice. Yeah I had screwed up, but this person has almost certainly torpedoed a relationship that while broken someone wanted to fix. If they had just spoken to either of us they would have known where things were at. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
