  1. Vigil will do a service for you if you ask. They just don't force the issue or rape you for the service costs (mine cost shipping only) Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  2. I think you're being completely unreasonable. People in this sport need to own their mistakes. Sorry but a TI showing poor judgement in selecting a landing area is a blight on the sport NOT the person who asks what happens. Joe Average assumes that the danger of a skydive is the parachute not opening, they don't consider that they can be seriously injured through a TI screwing up a landing. When you take on an instructor role, it comes with an element of responsibility, if you won't accept that then don't do it. The time to push the limits is when you are on your own. Note: Accidents happen, no-one is perfect. I don't advocate suing people for making mistakes. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  3. I think that old trend is nonsense and not applicable any more. seems to be a thread just to validate certain people's stereotypes frankly, I'm a bit sad for people that restrict themselves to just one or two disciplines in this hobby. As I said initially a generalisation. I'm 40 and am one of the younger rw jumpers in my state. I don't have the budget to do more than one discipline. I'm quite happy watching the amazing talent the VFS guys have. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  4. I think the general trend is 'older' jumpers tend towards Rel and younger towards Freefly and then bloody old accuracy! Obviously there are exceptions and I have friends in their early 20s who do rel and Squeak representing the middle aged crowd in freefly
  5. Ok, so you can confirm that this is on other Chute Shop/Parachute Systems canopies too? This is not a popular make or model here, I'm not sure I've ever seen one before in person. I gotta say I'm not impressed that the factory (or anyone else for that matter) would leave raw scissor cut edges sticking out like that. It's frayed pretty badly (I snipped off a bunch of frayed threads before I took that photo), to the point that a lot of the stitching is missing. I remember chute shop canopies having the triangle from long back. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  6. If you pick cheap hopefully you've got a racer with a double RSL Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  7. Yes, but there were probably better options. If you're going to quit you might as well take it up the chain first. What do you have to lose at that point? People often quit their bosses, not their company. Oh my god. This is so fucking tragically hilarious. I am/was at 2nd interview stage with another company. I just got drunk dialled by the Managing Director to negotiate the employment terms at 10:30:at night (midnight for him). Think I'll pass on that job Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  8. Yep. Twice. First time I had no idea what I wanted to do - total career change, etc. Second time I was like: "fuck this, I'm a Chartered Accountant and can find *something* better than this bullshit - even if it does pay less." Don't regret either decision as both times things worked out very nicely. That said, I would not recommend this approach to the vast majority of people... Just like I would not encourage the vast majority of people to take up base jumping... I'm at the point where I believe it is going to be less stressful to be unemployed with a mortgage than stuck in this. 9. Dickhead only has power over you if you let him. Anyone ever quit a job with nothing lined up? Jesus Christ current blow up with the boss - he signed off a project plan that assigned 0.13hr (8 minutes) for an entire electrical design. I've been reprimanded for blowing the timescale and still doing a rush job. On the bright side all that bullshit including the project plan is documented, so I've been able to approach his boss for help in adjusting my approach and attitude as I'm struggling to meet the expectations that are being set. 10. There was no 360, there was a 270, and after that he was too deep in the corner to do anything but bounce. I eagerly await your inevitable opinion on swooping after you have mastered the art of camera flying. Based on previous replies... I meant 36.0 not 360 BTW no need to wait to be a swoop god can always do that while learning camera. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  11. Bill, that doesn't sound correct. I was under the impression that deploying the reserve on a MARD system will only launch the reserve pilot chute and nothing else. If what you say is true I'd say that's a pretty big negative for MARDs. It's not correct it's a misunderstanding of the colins lanyard. Pulling the reserve does not activate the RSL functionality. 12. Really interesting seeing how open they are with their data and analysis. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  13. Agreed. If I did a pack like this the next due date would be the date of component expiry. As it was explained to me during my course, we are allowed a MAXIMUM of 6 months nothing preventing a shorter period. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  14. Not sure about the USA. But simply put I 'can' do a repack for you the day before a component expires, BUT the pack is only valid until component expiry. So it becomes a financial choice for you. If you want to pay a reserve pack for x days of jumping your choice. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

Tried that in the UK. Was really awful. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  16. But you can bet they are in someone's private collection! Everybody at the DZ has probably seen the video multiple times. Guys please consider the OP in your comments. He signed up for a tandem and is more than a little concerned about his incident. We aren't all wired the same, and while we tend to pour over every minute detail to learn from them as active jumpers these comments don't come across well. 17. Western Australia clouds aren't normally an issue Australia has cloud regulations. If the dropzone has a cloud manual and meets a specific set of criteria (distance from water etc) then you can jump through cloud. Extra safety layers come into effect, such as radio contact etc and the cloud must be above break off height. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  18. how does x+.0825x translate to 1.0825x ? Maybe think of it like this (1+0.0825)x = 1500 Don't know if that helps to visualise the step? Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  19. Well I am fresh off my Packer A course and Andy Knowles who taught me, spent alot of time going through Service Bulletins etc. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  20. Look at APF Service Bulletin 081014. It mentions Military equipment and so I don't believe it needs the TSO label if it meets the requirements of that service bulletin? Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  21. A word of caution: in several (not all) US states it's criminally unlawful to record someone's voice (even over the phone) without his knowledge or consent. For all I know, some other countries might have similar laws. This should always be kept in mind. Almost certain it wouldn't be legal here. 22. I've met a few bucket list people who didn't consider a tandem. They wanted to skydive ONCE on their own. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  23. Well things should get interesting over the next month. In the last weekly report one of the senior engineers from a different team raised an issue over mental health and stress within the workplace and requested that action was taken to resolve the issue. Gave me an opportunity to discuss the issue with our health and safety manager and there have been numerous stress related issues brought to their attention recently - all of them from departments under this one manager. Due to the phrasing of the stress complaint I was able to discretely mention that these levels of stress are often accompanied by bullying and that they should bear that in mind when looking to resolve the issue. 24. Company is about 200 people, but about 40 under this manager. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
  25. Anyone had experience with workplace bullying? Don't want to go into specifics but my boss is a bully and I've just started to keep a log. I've painted a target on my back by speaking up on others behalf and now for the first time in my life have received a verbal warning for being 'glass half empty personality'. Job market for my skills are limited, and if I had the opportunity I would quit in a heartbeat, but it isn't really an option right now.
