Trump stands a chance for the simple reason that there are lots of poorly educated people, racist people and misogynists. It is Trump and his ilk who want to monitor women’s pregnancy, dictate what happens in your bedroom, suppress free speech, imprison his critics. Quite how you come to your conclusions I don’t know.

With all due respect to the very sincere and well intentioned people, I really think America needs to stop saying that they set the global standard for decorum, rule of law and democracy in the world. Yes once upon a time that was true, but American politics is now a clown show. Trump is the ring master, but the list is endless JD Vance, Mike Johnson, Lindsey Graham, Mitch McConnell… The Supreme Court, Elon Musk, The so called rule of law has been shown to be an illusion- if it wasn’t Trump would be in jail many years ago. Empires rise and fall, the American public are the biggest victims, it will hurt the rest of the world as well. Sorry Kamala but I disagree with your view that America still sets the standard. It’s incredible that in the past 25 years we have had 9/11, Global Financial Crisis, Brexit, and Covid. Yet the current American crisis feels like all of those pale in comparison.

This scandal blew up locally a few months ago. It makes me wonder what the outcome of severe water shortages would be in major cities. I think there is lots we can do to help at a personal level. I’ve got a swimming pool that is barely used and consumes thousands of litres a year. Grey water use in gardens, rain water tanks and generally being conservation minded all add up.

I just watched the entire Trump Chicago economic interview. Very surprised at the audience cheering for him and booing the interviewer about Jan 6. Trump seemed more coherent than usual, but what an arrogant fuckwit - of course he ‘knows’ more about economics and tariffs than the experts. In Aus the C word is very common. People who state Harris can’t articulate anything seem to have prejudice/misogyny, comprehension problems or the inability to speak English. As for Joe 2.0, he’s done a pretty good job, peacefully handed over the reigns to a younger candidate. I’d say he’s a pretty good act to follow.

In all fairness it’s a global/western problem and it’s easy to pick on America. Suicide is the leading cause of death in men under 45 (in Australia). Toxic masculinity is on the rise and people like Andrew Tate are hailed as hero’s. Men are in crisis and scared. I don’t know if life is genuinely more difficult than it was 30 years ago or not. It used to be uncommon to live at home into your 30’s and 40’s, now it’s almost the norm. I guess you start off blaming immigrants and when you have killed them off/kicked them out the next in line to blame is women. Trump has proven to be good at connecting at an emotional level with younger men. It’s terrifying to see just how big a problem exists. I think we have a similar problem brewing here, the number one terror threat that we are dealing with is radicalised 14 to 25 year old males.

I see the anger and frustration that you and many of my friends have about the situation - It’s hard to imagine the level of frustration that you guys must have. Trump is quite literally the laughing stock of the world and to be honest the GOP is so spineless and lack integrity that it is disgusting.

Before Kamala started to run, we had a discussion about why she might not be the best alternative to Biden, and the strongest point was misogyny and racism. Polling shows that she lags Trump with men by quite a large margin. It’s a sad indictment of American men/society that they prefer a rapist and criminal over a woman. Forget all the right wing fuss about what is a woman, they really need to talk about what makes a man - because Trump is no alpha male role model, he’s a pathetic excuse for masculinity. When a significant portion of a society thinks a diaper wearing bully is better than a strong woman of conviction, they have a problem. I guess the old farts of DZ are woke liberals as for most posters are rational and sane - thankfully and hopefully enough of you to stop the madness.
