Before Kamala started to run, we had a discussion about why she might not be the best alternative to Biden, and the strongest point was misogyny and racism. Polling shows that she lags Trump with men by quite a large margin. It’s a sad indictment of American men/society that they prefer a rapist and criminal over a woman. Forget all the right wing fuss about what is a woman, they really need to talk about what makes a man - because Trump is no alpha male role model, he’s a pathetic excuse for masculinity. When a significant portion of a society thinks a diaper wearing bully is better than a strong woman of conviction, they have a problem. I guess the old farts of DZ are woke liberals as for most posters are rational and sane - thankfully and hopefully enough of you to stop the madness.

“On Friday, Trump stopped in Colorado, and on Tuesday he’s scheduled to parachute into Illinois, Fox News reports.” What idiot is taking Trump on a tandem?

We are pro life now in SC and don’t do after birth abortions Once upon a time this may have been locked

This is interesting from ASIO https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-10-11/asio-chief-warns-about-social-media-role-radicalisation-children/104461708 "Mr Burgess singled out artificial intelligence as a technology of growing concern, saying that while there was currently a "chasm" between the reality and "what's being claimed by tech-evangelists", AI would increasingly become a weapon in the hands of terrorists and foreign powers intent on espionage. "If the internet is the world's greatest incubator of extremism and social media is the world's greatest accelerator, AI will augment the incubation and accelerate the acceleration," Mr Burgess said. "We're already aware of extremists experimenting with AI, and it's likely they will try to use it to improve their recruitment campaigns, including through social media. "A company capable of building such powerful social media algorithms should also be capable of harnessing AI to better identify, moderate and remove extreme material, especially when it is being fed to children."

Now I see where Trumps argument about ‘executing babies after birth’ comes from. Considering he can’t tell the difference between insane asylum and asylum seekers I’m not surprised. Kind of ironic someone arguing that abortion is wrong, but in trumpian terms executing the baby is fine.

I think you’ve completely missed my point. Trump is a grifting, sociopathic criminal. If I had any say in it, he’d have been locked up a long time ago! I don’t want him to win, I want him in jail. Do I think he will win the popular vote, no not by a long shot. However, I do think he is likely to win the electoral college (or lose by a razor thin margin that Maga exploits to ferment violence and chaos).
-
Unfortunately due to the electoral college, corrupt MAGA politicians and Supreme Court and millions of Americans that are completely insane I think it is more likely for Trump to be in the white house. What’s even worse is I suspect Trump will quickly hand the reigns to Vance. Either willingly or the conniving MAGA/Vance mob will invoke 25th

It’s been interesting watching the polls, betting odds and DJT stock price. The DJT stock price seems to be tracking the polls/betting odds quite closely. Got to give the grifter credit for finding a legal way to accept bribes. It would be interesting to know if you can get the names of people/organisations who are trading.

Those are interesting articles. We aren’t decriminalised for personal use, which would make a difference. There’s also something about culture that plays a part. A couple of European countries have decriminalised with good results. But it’s probably the same as it is with alcohol. Lots of Europe you can drink all day and they don’t have problems, try that in the UK or Australia and you’d have problems.
-
Tricky issue in society. I’m sure there is no magic wand, although decriminalisation of use would be a big step forwards.

I’m extremely frustrated with the Australian model of dealing with substance abuse. Particularly because my son is affected and the system is broken. Substance abuse is closely tied in with mental health problems. Admittedly the government is doing a lot to implement good quality support services. There are two major obstacles though. Firstly because drugs are illegal and the structure of the system is that your first point of contact is the police it’s very difficult to engage. Getting a prison sentence or suspended sentence only has negative outcomes. There is abundant evidence to support that. It can be very hit and miss if you call the police if you’ll get a supportive officer or a crack down on crime officer. Secondly we have very strong deprivation of liberty laws. The bar for compulsory admission to a mental health facility is extremely high and requires a clear danger to others. Voluntary admission support is fantastic though. Try dealing with someone who has not slept in 3 days and is aggressive and unstable, lives at home and has nowhere ‘safe’ to go. You quickly find the limits of the support system.

I’m stunned at the insanity of Trump supporters. In the states earlier this year I met a few new people and after Fitz became FB friends. At the boogie we didn’t talk politics so I had no idea. The disinformation and nonsense flying around is unbelievable. Today’s news is that the cocaine in the White House was Harriss’s. The post full of outrage at it - the irony is… I know full well the poster isn’t anti drugs.

Conservatives installing windows into children's bathrooms

I’ve got no idea where this post should go! It’s f’n insane! It appears that Oklahoma Department of Education has gone out to tender for 55 000 bibles. The catch is pretty much only the Trump bible meets the requirements. Welcome to Trumpsilvania https://www.oklahoman.com/story/news/2024/10/04/donald-trump-supported-bible-one-of-few-that-meets-ryan-walters-criteria-for-ok-classrooms/75510021007/ -

Makes you wonder how far the US is down the road to being a theocracy. If Trump wins in November I wouldn’t be surprised to see all American women being forced to dress like this (Image curtesy of AI) 7000543B-2341-4D6B-9575-A664B96EC874.webp -

Post trump Legal Actions, Including his Enablers

Thoughts and prayers to the child of god, I’ve heard of tin foil hats but not magnetic mattresses. -
Yes, sounds like it’s been a rough time but they are ok. From what I saw last they should have water and electricity soon.
-
I’ve seen a few pictures and updates from friends in the area. It’s really awful to see the destruction and chaos it caused.

I hadn’t seen about the post office, we don’t seem to get much UK news here. Very interesting about UK law assumptions on computer evidence and scary. I guess often laws lag behind technology (a whole other discussion). Another interesting application of AI is detecting drowning in swimming pools. Our local public pools have recently installed it - I don’t know if they are still using life guards (I hope so). We’re developing a home pool system for chemicals and water quality. In the future we are planning on extend it into safety/security and current alarms are woefully inadequate with lots of false alarms. Object recognition in embedded computing is already pretty advanced and being able to flag adult, child or dog is pretty useful- although I would argue that isn’t AI (until I put my marketing sales hat on).
-
I’ve seen a few articles saying that AI has suggested cooking recipes for Mustard gas and similar. The whole point is it is ‘supposed’ to be an aid, you still need intelligence and to verify the results. There is a really interesting BBC article on mapping the brain of a fly for the first time and AI was an enormous help - but it made 3 Million mistakes that had to be corrected by hand.

I think there are more hard facts that weren’t publicly known.
-
I’m not sure if anyone else has read the unsealed document that has been released. I think these two people are extremely brave and well intentioned in trying to ensure the truth of the 2020 actions by Trump and Co are made public. The deliberate attempts to start riots, incite violence and to deceive are shocking when laid out in chronological order and factual. I doubt it will change any minds, or have any meaningful impact, but at least they can sleep at night knowing they have done their best to lay out the facts and truth.

Slight rant.. The single most irritating saying by Americans is that they are ‘the world’s policeman’ Maybe it’s cultural and bragging isn’t in most countries nature. I’m both too young and don’t have a strong history background to know how true or false Americans claim to be the saviour of the world is… Also kind of ironic for an American to use that line right now with the state of US politics;)
