Ever heard the term.. teleconference???? That burns a whole lot less Jet A... If just HALF the people in this country could work from their homes who work in jobs where face to face interaction is not needed more than a couple times a week.. the countries energy problems would evaporate immediately.. Trouble is... the people flying around in their pretty little jets do not trust their employees enough to allow that. Management COULD keep track of their people with existing technology... but they will not.. because they are incapable of changing outdated ways of "doing business" THAT would be efficient conduct of business I don't think that is fully true. There is a place for teleconferencing I agree, but it certainly doesn't cover all business requirements. I also think that people have a rosy picture of a senior business executive that is not true. I worked directly for a multi-millionaire who had a private jet (although it was not new) and I can tell you that many times when we were called out to the factory to resolve a crisis Victor was there working at 3am etc. He was the hardest working person I have ever met and I certainly did not begrudge his jet enabling him to get him from one factory to another (after all he kept 6000 people in work). In a couple of instances we engineers were sent by jet to solve problems that were costing thousands of $ per hour in down time and the travel cost was insignificant - in one instance it was a 2500km round trip in the jet to simply fetch a spare part quickly. In short I am sure there is "some" abuse but I doubt it is much - except for politicians at which point I think the reverse is true in that there might be "some" legitimate use for a politician to travel quickly. - Don't believe everything you read on the internet. My jump numbers are very far from accurate - I fall into the 100 jump wonder category which if you research on dz.com is a far more dangerous and despised group than the 1 jump whuffo's! It could be worse though this thread contains violence/politics and religion so it "could" be moved to SC. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

Maybe Quade can do a reverse "sticky" - ie this thread is stuck at the bottom of the page Seriously though the waste of bandwidth 90% of the posts on DZ.com are noise. With the direction this thread has taken it may be appropriate to move it to the bonfire - at least there is some serious competition for top slot there! I like this site for some of its technical howto videos. But curiosity got the better of me and I found these hilarious. No tangible benefit but then I only have about 40 contacts and have only had one referral. I have heard that if you put alot of time into it then it can work well. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

My brother is married to an Irish woman and during the NI troubles he decided to have "fun" and put on his black balaclava when walking into a Belfast pub. His wife nearly shat herself - he was just having fun being from Africa. Same trip a bottle of whisky fell from the overhead locker in the plane and knocked a passenger out - that also resulted in lots of jokes. Beat this inflation rate - 6.5 quindecillion novemdecillion
nigel99 replied to nigel99's topic in Speakers Corner
A few articles are quoting the 6.5 10^108 percent figure. But Steve Hanke is the more authoritive and conservative source. According to Steve Hanke Zimbabwe's inflation rate surpassed 89.7 Sextillion Percent (10^21) in November. http://www.cato.org/zimbabwe http://www.irinnews.org/Report.aspx?ReportId=82500 The Zimbabwe dollar has fallen: 1980 - independence Z$1 = ~US$1.5 2000 - Z$100 = ~US$1 2006 - Z$1000 = new Z$1 (three zeros removed) Aug2008 Z$10Billion = new Z$1 (equal to US$1) Jan2009 - Z$5-10Trillion = US$1 So without the zero's removed in 2009 Z$1^24 = US$1! Thank god for independence it has served the country well. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived. -

And as I was reading that one I was thinking to myself to go to the auto parts store on the way home. Shit me too! I have some the garage ... But haven't got a clue what Clorox is - am I pissed off now? We used to use swimming pool chlorine (it doesn't smoke but makes a flammable explosion if correctly contained in a bottle) Pool chlorine and milk also works Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

that includes skydivers. We were once thrown out of a restaurant as someone thought it was a bright idea to see if you could bat butter balls with the ceiling fan! Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

Look at the pics of the landing of the ransom. That really doesn't look "so terrible." I wonder how long did the pirates take to leave? Why would they choose to leave a safe location that they had been on for months and had what seemed to be a rapport with the hostages in the middle of "terrible" weather? It really sounds to me like it was either some truly ignorant pirates (which is possible) or a "plausible" cover story I wouldn't have thought they would do a drop in winds so bad that it would blow a boat over. It would have made spotting extremely difficult. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

If you Google-Image your Name, what's the first picture to appear?

What does "squiding" mean? When a round parachute opens it inflates in a way that you wouldn't expect and that is it starts to inflate from the top so that initially during parts of the opening sequence it would look like a "squid" or hot air balloon. Hi Tom, Opening at excessive speed's can and have resulted in fatalities. I have cut and paste this from the dz.com fatalities database although there is no indication that this hard opening was from excessive speed as no reason is given. There are alot of variables at work and modern RAM air parachutes behave very differently including in the manner that they open. I am to young to know much about skydiving in that time zone but I did all my training on T-10's and about 80 jumps on a C9 (photo on my profile). I had one incident where I opened the C9 and whether it was body position or speed I don't know which as I had lost altitude awareness and deployed at sub 1500 feet (as a student on timed delays my jump master thought I was dead) Anyway my chest mount altimeter hit me in the face and split my chin open. I don't believe in mediums etc however I do think that synchronicity is interesting http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synchronicity A personal experience of this was driving towards junction 11 of the M25 (anti-clockwise) my father called to chat as he was driving (he calls every 2/3 months). He was driving clockwise towards me about 1/2 a mile away. Since we both live and work about 40 miles from that function in opposite directions it was weird. Probably doesn't conform to the true definition but the best I have experienced. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

New Years Resolutions And Genuine Change...How Does It Happen?
nigel99 replied to windcatcher's topic in Speakers Corner
A few years ago the IEEE had an article about change that stated that even the threat of death does not cause people to change habbits in the long term. The examples given were taken from medical advice given to people following heart-attacks on diet and something like 90% (it is a long time ago I may be wrong on details) of people reverted to old habbits very quickly despite the major scare they had just had. As someone pointed out people need "positive goals" so an end date is a good example or a positive reason to achieve their goals based on more immediate gratification. A few people have the sheer minded will power to change and carry on by themselves but they are few and far between. For Gods sake Jo - if you have any intention of telling the truth please take 377's advice. Your continual hinting that you have something that validates the case - but refusing to disclose it is HIGHLY irritating. His post was polite and to the point and you have completely ignored it You even attack Sluggo who is probably the only other person left on the forum with any sympathy/time for your story. Hopefully this reply isn't in-appropriate for bonfire perhaps some (.)(.) will cover for it? How can we ever get out of the mess we are in? It appears that the proposed solution from 10 is to get us all to borrow more - in fact that's what they are doing on our behalf. It doesn't seem to make sense You've kept the economy (falsely) strong by borrowing - we've realised that you can't afford to pay it back, so we'll step in and underwrite you borrowing some more to keep the economy ticking over? Please include boobies in reply to keep it the thread in bonfire Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

Perhaps it is because after a year of marriage the initial rush is wearing off and you are needing your own space. As you say you are still crazy about each other that is no bad thing it can be very hard to readjust to marriage. At first you spend time together and it is novel and new, then it wears off and it can be really difficult to then try and recreate your own separate spaces, without feeling like you are creating distance in a negative way. It is easy for people to say talk about it but it can be really difficult to portray needing personal space as a positive rather than a "I am bored or being with you and need to be with the guys" approach. You say you do what she likes but not your likes maybe you'd be better off next time that instead of tagging along simply encouraging her to go alone and gradually creating some space? I am really puzzled by this thread. So far Sangi has only expressed curiosity in something that he freely admits is dangerous and risky. He has been bashed by swoopers who push the envelope in terms of wingloading and while landings under highly loaded canopies kill more skydivers than anything else these days (even experienced "conservative" jumpers like Tonto) they continue to expose themselves to the un-necessary and added risk. A number of base jumpers have reacted very negatively as well - another group who push the very envelope of what many people would call insane (myself included ) As someone put it even skydiving is an un-necessary risk activity - hell its not like he asked this on the bowling forum! The ONLY logical argument that I have heard is that tandem manufacturers are probably subject to a higher level of liability and therefore in terms of ethical behaviour it is unfair to risk someone else's livelihood for the sake of a cheap thrill. As to tandems being the holy grail/lifeblood of modern skydiving, I don't accept or believe that. Turbine aircraft and "large" DZ's provide a certain lifestyle or environment but so do little DZ's perhaps it is due to my entire skydiving experience being at a DZ with only a single cessna where we were annually treated to jumps from a CASA and helicopters courtesy of the airforce (Africa has its perks as these were cheaper jumps than the cessna). The environment is different and having lurked at a couple of large(r) UK DZ's you are clearly a customer of a business rather than a member of the family. http://images.google.com/hosted/life/l?q=parachute+source:life&imgurl=be4b09fed634d9dd Courtesy of life magazine we can now put Duane near a parachute One of those chaps seems to resemble the composite. On a more serious note - this photo was taken from another thread, and one of the other pictures has the following caption Note that this was a very different time that an 11 year old would be allowed to attempt unaccompanied free-fall. Thanks Jimmy for answering - so if I understand you correctly Tandem skydives in the US are technically NOT covered by the FAA in the same manner as sport skydives (paraphrased sport dives are legal but tandems would be illegal if the waiver was not in place)? If so I can understand the level of apprehension that people have expressed about others doing stupid tandem stuff. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.
