If they are yes I think definate caution as it is the same in Europe 1 to 5W output powers. It is a bit concerning that the Cypres guys have not mastered immunity to interference at pcb/design level - considering that this is a safety/life critical device (by life critical I mean that you cannot afford it to go off ad-hoc). usually licence free walkie talkies (I assume that is what was used) are about 10dBm output power (10mW) this is a fraction of a phone normally. Frequencies - 49Mhz is ligitimate in Europe (I know nothing about USA 49Mhz) but pretty much outdated. Most cheap walkie talkies operate around 400Mhz - 450Mhz these days. I am no longer a current diver (am hoping to start again soon), but when I started jumping on T-tens (africa) and no AAD's and doing F-Fall delays from 4K etc I did it and enjoyed the sport (stoped because of marriage...) However even upto a 100 jumps I was scared, I have had a mal and dealt with it, but when I start jumping again I will definetly have an AAD as I would prefer to have every safety device available to me. For me safety devices RSL/AAD/larger canopies add to the enjoyment because for me to overcome fear of heights is the rush. Just my 0.02 worth

I think the technology exsists to land a wingsuit and walk away today - it just needs a nutter and some planning. You do not attach the wheels to the diver - you have a large truck etc on a runway - matching the forward speed of the falling person - therefore relative forward speed = 0! If teh back of the truck is filled with a shock absorbing mechanism that crushs on impact they should be fine - as long as they are good at accuracy!

Not is freefall - but when shifting around trying to get comfortable in leg straps - wondered what it would be like if I fell out of the harness - the thought of falling away from the rig Also enjoyed the wierd feeling of seeing the underside of a plane from close up
