Well, even sheep would be exotic in the urban sprawl of South London. The coolest wild animals we have are foxes. And yes, they're pests, but I do like to see them roaming the streets. Walk through my neighborhood after dark and you're almost guaranteed to see one or two, and they're pretty bold as well. They're quite happy to trot along the pavement a few paces ahead of you. Oh, and every now and again they move indoors. My first thoughts on that story was I wonder how long it will take a fox to fall 950 feet. Amazing how they find their to those types places. Fear of ending up like a good friend *NOT for the ladies*
nigel99 replied to shah269's topic in The Bonfire
Serious reply here. Why don't you relax and separate relationships from sex. You obviously like a certain type of woman, just rent them. Honestly looks is very big part of what you are going for, and as a generalisation "looks oriented" people are going to be shallow. A woman who spends alot of time and money tarting herself up is probably not a nice charactered person (generalisation) so skip the bull and pay per hour. Not everyone has to be married. If an actual relationship is important to you with feelings and character then the whole looks thing needs to fall into the background. My personal opinion (as dictated to me by my wife ) is that often women who are "hot" in the wordly/sexual sense have put alot of energy into looking good, clothing, hair makeup etc. Many very hot women who don't wear makeup, wear comfortable clothes "appear" to be plain Janes in the natural state. I sense that you aren't happy with that and you expect a woman to be tarted up 100% of the time - such women do exist but I think they are pretty shallow with nothing better to do with their time. I am happy that my wife doesn't wear makeup, wear high heels etc. When she does dress up she looks amazing. I don't "need" her to look her best everyday, and frankly if she spent more than 5 minutes on her hair it would drive me up the wall. False statement. BTW, engineers don't make mistakes, they make changes. Best comment in the whole thread

With all due respect, the Romans killed Cousin Jesus (assuming that's who you mean by "his son," which is a Pagan concept that Jesus would have found alien). When asked about it, the Romans said "Uh, it's the Jews' fault. They made us do it." That you are so credulous as to accept the account of the people who sought to destroy everything Jesus stood for, usurping his legacy in the process, speaks badly for your cognitive skills. Damn Italians - the Godfather was active even back then Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

In all honesty you are rationalising things. On one hand God is unchanging and yet your reply shows how God either made a mistake in the Old Testament and Jesus had to come and fix it, or he changed his mind. I am now breaking one of my own rules, in that I really don't like to try and change peoples opinions and beliefs. I actually think Jesus was a pretty cool guy. He drank, hung out with hookers, followed the beer rules (brought wine to the party) and drew the line at base jumping. You know what is funny. This was taken at a game reserve. Whoever it is, has gone to see wildlife, possibly from far away and yet they got impatient. They were stuck directly behind a magnificent specimen of a "big five". There is very little I enjoy more than sitting quietly in the bush, watching wildlife. I like game, can't do the bird-watching thing, unless it is of the topless variety Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

We don't all like to drive cars that burn 1 dinosaur per mile Growing up in Africa I never did have the courage to sleep under the stars when we were on fishing trips (happy in a tent). On half a dozen occasions the guys who slept under the stars woke to find an elephant trunk in their face as they are so curious. The strangest thing is growing up in africa and moving to the UK. Go on holiday to Wales and people are telling you how cool it is that there are wild sheep Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

Not sure where you are going with this comment? I don't agree on a certain level and it could be that it is simply not what you mean't. Faith is very important. If you can't accept certain basic premise that underline your belief structure and question absolutely everything at its deepest level you are not going to be able to progress. Is it legitimate to use the bible to argue against it? I will anyway Some people choose to put their faith in God, others put their faith in science. Like it or not there are aspects of science that "we hope will be proven oneday" and that is what many of us base our belief systems on. At a personal level I believe there is more evidence that the God of the bible does not exist, and so I have staked my eternity on that assumption. I have no problem with you believing in God that is a personal decision and honestly nobody but you has the right to question that. However if you are truly interested in finding the truth, your own statement above highlights self-deception. As you say at one point in time people knew xyz. Exactly the same goes for God, at one point in Time God was the only rational explanation for the unexplainable. Can you honestly say that you have looked at the evidence that the modern scientific method is producing and not question your beliefs? I think that it is beyond dispute that Genesis (God's word) version of the creation story has been proven to not be correct. Do you eat bacon, where synthetic fibres, eat cheeseburgers, work on a Saturday? If you do any of those things you either don't believe that God's word is unchangeable or are sinning and rationalising it. My guess (putting on mind-readers hat) is that you rationalise those aspects of the bible, along the lines of "times change and that was relevant then". To be honest with you I think people get to hung up on the evolution debate where there is alot that is still unknown. Quantum physics, general physics and very importantly genetics provide a constrant stream of data that should at the very least make you examine your beliefs. The area that I find most interesting is sociology and human behaviour, perhaps it is because my brother is a professor of Philosophy. Taking a long hard look at why "everyone" in the south of the USA is a Baptist and "everyone" in Iran is a Muslim for a start - what rational explanation is there from a religious viewpoint? Why are Americans now God's chosen people being christians - when did the "unchanging God" turn his back on the jews of the Bible? Uh, no. Every bit of dirt available has been thrown at the guy. Apparently, our government, unlike you, understands that there's nothing to charge him with. I agree the US government were uber pissed with Assange and the lack of charges speaks volumes. However it could be that they are working on what charges to bring. You could also argue that the sooner Wikileaks is forgotten the better and a high profile trial is probably not in the best interests of the US government. It would make a fantastic platform for Wikileaks to air the dirtiest US laundry and it is unlikely to be a Guantanamo type trial in secret. So it is plausible that a crime was committed and the decision not to proceed was taken to avoid further embarrassment. Which displaces more: water or earth? If you descending with both canopies entangled with each other, heading for a hard landing, would you rather be over water or earth? Earth is to much of a blanket statement. Granted in Texas the dirt is probably has hard as concrete for the most part. But a ploughed field that is highly aerated and churned up can be very soft for 2 or 3 feet. I suspect you can get dirt that is more forgiving than water. Snow is suppossed to be pretty good to - isn't that what the air-hostess survived falling into? I have seen someone hook a 100sq foot canopy into a ploughed field and limp away from it - not necessarily saying that he wouldn't have done the same with water. Meso. When I was about 16/17 my best mate and I used to get dragged to church (happy clappers place). What was hilarious was that evening services we were on the sound desk and on a number of occasions we were really praised by the ministers wife for letting the "spirit" flow through us. EVERY single one of those occasions the two of us were stoned. Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

Anyway same client - called in a panic today they need someone to be a technical face at a couple of days of meetings with the design team of a luxury sports car manufacturer in Germany

"hundred jump slump" experience?
nigel99 replied to ManagingPrime's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I know exactly what you are talking about. I think that there are people who jump in order to "achieve" something and to prove to themselves that they can do it. I stopped jumping at just over a hundred jumps - admittedly meeting my wife was 90% of the reason. There were a number of people who hung-out at the club, who had magically stopped at 100 jumps. I personally feel it is the point where you no longer see yourself as a student (hence the famous saying 100 jump wonder). A client of mine stopped jumping at just over 100 jumps as well - he feels that he has ticked the skydiving box and other things have his interest now. The problem for me is skydiving is like crack, I can't hear a cessna without looking up and dreaming, I can't see blue sky without my heart being drawn to the sky. I can't get into a commercial airliner without working out freefall times, looking for outs, noting that we are at pull altitude etc. So after 15 years of nagging my wife I will be back and hopefully not for another 100 jumps. My advice is if you enjoy skydiving carry on and do what excites you. There is nothing wrong with just going out to the dz every now and again to do a couple of jumps when it takes your fancy either. Sure like that you will never progress like committed guys do - but so long as you are having fun. My only disclaimer on this, is jumping infrequently does mean that you are not "current" so stay ultra conservative in your skydiving. Once again...coming up snake eyes on the mind reading. You'll never learn. *shaking head* Let me get this straight. You claim to know all information that has come from our informants. You claim nothing good has come from it. Yet you say it is I who has a problem. Can't argue with that logoc. With regards to the Taliban/Afganistan I think that it is a fair assessment that whatever informants there are not being very effective. The western world has not even been able to find a single man (Bin Laden) in 10 years, that is a poor track record by anyones standard. Added to this the Taliban are certainly giving us a good run for our money. I don't think it is to much of a stretch to point a significant portion of the blame/weakness at intelligence gathering. It is certainly not a case of lack of military might. By extension if the informants are failing to deliver strategic information (based on performance that is available in the public domain) it is quite likely that the Taliban already know who informants are or at the very least they are not high threat individuals. I don't know if that is where Popsjumper is coming from, but it makes sense to me. As a sidenote -where one side has much greater military capability, the other tends to resort to guerilla or terrorist tactics (asymmetric warfare). I think Wikileaks is similar. We in the modern world are ruled by an elite class and frankly it doesn't really make that much difference if you are in Idaho or Iran. Wikileaks is "we the people" fighting back and exposing the elite for what they are (frauds and liars). Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived.

Very true. Anyway today is not a good day to be in SC having had my fair dose before 8am at home. Wife was watching some animal show with the kids in bed. As I left the room she said "it is amazing how God made them like that. Anyone who believes God doesn't exist is an idiot". Nice one, very fucking Christian thank-you. You make me swear I will keep my beliefs to myself and not tell the kids; and then tell them yourself anyway putting your own spin on it. Then you go on to cause that kind of shit. Honestly at least in SC you can log-off If God did exist he would not only be everything you have said but a grade A wanker as well.
