>I mean the main body for the main parachute! >I think in english it`s the d bag? I think you're trying to say "podi" as in "POD" as in "Parachute Opening Device".

There used to be a great set of instructions(with photos) for the wolmari-pack at parasale.com, but now it seems there is nothing but a notice in finnish "Wolmari has moved, new address unknown.". Bummer. Erno

As it happens, I'm also considering an elliptical canopy. I initially thought about the Vengeance too, but I heard(and saw) that it can be very sensitive to packing and can give very funky openings. A friend of mine cut-away her Vengeance twice in a few weeks. Now I'm considering the Heatwave or the Crossfire2(mainly depending on how much money I can spare...). I'd love to give the Cobalt a try, but unfortunately there's no way I can demo a 120 in Finland. There are a lot of people here on DZcom jumping Hornets, but does anyone have any input on the Heatwave? Also, have there been any issues with the Crossfire2 like there were with with the original? Erno

>Am I paranoid, too safty oriented (is that possible?), or just a safe jumper??? We all have a limit on what we feel comfortable with. Some people do only solo flat-flying. Some are BASE-jumpers. Most fall somewhere inbetween. Just stck to what you feel comfortable with, I don't think you can be too careful... Erno

Wow. Consistent 20-meter scores With a round! Not bad at all...

landing a birdman suit.. it IS doable..?
ernokaikkonen replied to kevin922's topic in Wing Suit Flying
From the birdman website: "During our test flights we have reached temporary vertical speeds of 8 m/s or 27 km/h (18 mph). " After that was written I've heard that negative descent speeds have been momentarily recorded with the Skyflyer. I don't have a reference for that right now though. Erno -
>Some of us give the altimeter to the airplane instruments > mechanich, he knows how to fix it and has the cam to test it. That's probably a smart idea. Erno

>Stainless is slightly stronger than what most manufacturers use >standard, but I've never heard of anyone having a problem related > to hardware strength on gear that has standard hardware. >Basically, it's all about how it looks. When I ordered my new Atom Legend container(parachutes-de-france), I was told that in addition to looking cool, the stainless steel buckles would wear the straps less. I don't know about Wings, but the PdF stainless buckles have a completely different design that the regular ones. The stainless steel buckles don't have the studded part which keeps the strap from slipping that the regular ones have. Erno

I'm not recommending that you do this this yourself(as it maybe illegal and all and yada yada), but the insides of a basic altimeter are not that complicated. I have opened one to dry it and clean it up after a water-jump. I just basicly wiped all the parts dry and closed the alti. No problems. Erno

I would think that brand new Javelins come with a kill-line pilot-chute unless you specifically ask for a non-collapsible(but why would you?) The proper french links can be identified with the text "MAILLON RAPIDE" on the link. Erno

>Wasn't me.........hehehehehehe. No, it was probably the pilot. Have you noticed that the pilot is always there when it starts to smell? Erno

I don't have an original manual handy since I don't own a ProTrack, but check the finnish translation of the manual at http://www.hameenlaskuvarjourheilijat.fi/protrack.pdf Page 10: "Muuttaa laitteen nopeus ja hälytysparametreja hyppylajeille 5,10, ja 11" As I recall type 10 is "SLO". The annex hasn't been translated yet so I have no idea what it says there about the different types. Plus, it seems that there are several different version of the ProTrack, and as many versions of the manual ... Erno

There is a "SLO"- setting on the ProTrack which should work well with wingsuits. As I recall it's in the "jump type"-menu. Erno

I have an Internet-connection on my phone. GPRS with ~40kb/s speed. No need to worry about affording it, costs me 20€/month no matter how much I use it... let's see, my dial-up connection has been open for 21hours and 6minutes now

I'd love to see those! Could you upload them here or to the picture gallery? Erno

We talked about a similar pic(the same one?) a few weeks ago, and some of the more accomplished swoopers on the forums seemed to think that it's quite possible to pull off a landing like that(and not eat shit)... Actually I was just looking for a video-clip that would show a landing like that so I could prove my friends it's possible to do!

>It was a 1985 Toyota Corolla, champagne and brown colored Yeah! 1985 Corollas rock! As you might guess, my first car was a 1985 Toyota Corolla (a stationwagon). I drove it about two years before I sold it to my step-brother to get money for skydiving...

Thanks!

I was having a hard time trying to convince a couple of people on my DZ that some pretty amazing things can be done under canopy. I'm sure I will find clips of these stunts on www.skydivingmovies.com, but if anyone can point me to the right direction on the site, please do... Two things: 1. Barrel roll. I had three clips of this, the last one of which showed a major biff... I unfortunately don't have them anymore. 2. Swooping with the side of the canopy touching the ground, and landing on one's feet afterwards. I havent seen a clip of this yet, but then again I haven't really been looking for them yet... www.skydivingmovies.com doesn't seem to respond, is it down or hust crowded? thanks in advance! Erno

> the cameraflyer then pulled about five seconds after when the >other three broke and tracked away. Is this customary? I mean waiting after the breakoff before deploying? We've always told our cameraman to deploy immediately after seeing the wave-off, or someone tracking away, just to ensure that there is vertical separation as well as horizontal. This does put the cameraman under canopy well over 1000m(3300ft), but that shouldn't be a problem now should it? Anyone care to comment? Quade? Erno

I'm not exactly any kind of authority on FS but here goes... First of all: Don't dive directly at the formation! If you fail to apply the brakes your going to crash into the formation, and the others won't be happy. Instead, aim at a point on the side formation. That way, if you have too much speed, you wont collide into anyone. >and end up spending a lot of time over the formation (bad bad) Yes. Very bad. I hope you don't mean directly above the formation? A bad place to be if someone in the formation has a premature deployment... What I do when diving after a formation, is that after diving out of the plane, I transition to the diving position before getting belly-to-earth. I dive in a pretty much track-like position, except without the de-arch. Diving after a funneled formation is more difficult for me too(if I have to start from a belly-to-earth position.). One last tip: While your diving towards the formation(or rather, to the point next to the formation, remember?): If the formation is getting visibly bigger, it's probably time to apply the brakes. Hope this helps, any input from the more experreinced divers would be appreciated. Erno

Try this for the article... ...and this for help with the clicky-links Erno (edited to say "Oh, you fixed it yourself while I was writing my post")

why has no one made a vibrating altimeter yet?
ernokaikkonen replied to Newbie's topic in The Bonfire
>I would certainly respond quickly if my altimeter zapped my b****. LOL! The question is: How would you respond? Pass out? Tuck up in a ball screaming in pain? Erno -
>even when I am having malfunction dreams, but, unfortunately > my arms and hands refuse to move in those dreams.. Bummer. I usually just snivel until impact, stand up, dust off my suit and walk away...
