True. Discussing things keeps the topics on everyones mind. But the FAQs would be a valuable addition: When someone is complaining how "his canopy stalls easier when going downwind" no-one would have to re-explain the concept of airspeed vs groundspeed, but could instead suggest the newbie that he reads the FAQ. >p.s. 'They shouldn't have put the wind flag sooooo close to the peas!!!! Amen! I've never actually hit the wind-sock on my DZ, but I almost front-risered myself on it a couple of months back. I wish someone could have gotten video of that landing.. Erno
-
>Erno, you should add to that 'list of beer rules' hitting/wrapping the >wind flag w/ your canpoy on landing. Yeah, but, like, even though I can do loads of stuff on the 'Net, I don't feel like editing Wendy Faulkners home page without her permission... Drop her a note if you want to change the rules...

Ok... The strangest things people put on the 'Net...
-
>Yeah i was thinking that...would you actually be able to steer them like >that? I'd imagine yes. The canopy configuration would be correct in that the higher loaded canopy would be on top BUT The risks of doing a from-above-dock(is there a proper english term for that?) with non-matching non-CF-canopies would IMO outweight the possible gains... Glove camera for tandem instructors?
ernokaikkonen replied to ernokaikkonen's topic in Safety and Training
What do the tandem instructors out there think about this? Any experiences? Are there perhaps reasons some of you wouldn't want to wear one? Glove camera being discussed here Erno -
>If anyone is interested I can post pics of it tomorrow night. Please do. Am I to understand that you have nothing in the system to provide mechanical assistance to it? Such as three ring release? Or the "one-ring-release" in this thread. Have you tried to load the system and then cutaway? ie. somebody trying to pull off your head while you try to pull the cutaway handle? Erno

>I just looked at Way Cool Industries' web site about glove mounted >cameras for tandem instructors. Got an address? Erno

>I don't remember the manufacturer right now and Google search turned out >nothing, but I think the manufacturer was European. Creatively called "Onyx parachute shop" according to www.utti.org/sanasto/o.htm

LMAO! "Bring La Vache !"

I've never heard of anything like that (not saying that it didn't happen, I'm sure that's happened somewhere). But what are you going to do? When the S/L-student leaves the plane, there's nothing left to do. You can only observe the student not steering the canopy, and not responding to radio... Same thing with AFF I guess; After opening the students parachute there isn't much to do... ...Unless the AFFI wants to get real adventurous and do a CRW-dock from above... I guess not. Erno

>Iraq getting bombed is an unfortunate price that the Iraqi people are >going to pay due to Saddham's actions AND their lack of action. Ok ok, we're not talking about the same thing. You're saying that some innocent people will take hits in a military operation against Iraq. Which is unfortunately going to happen, if the US attacks Iraq. I'm reluctantly accepting that. What I'm arguing against, is Bills idea: "If we had flattened them after the van bombing in '95, we wouldn't be having this discussion. If we had retaliated then and killed 50,000 Afghans, it would have saved 3,000 innocent Americans. Good example. I have no problem with that." Killing innocent people to protect your country. That can never be right. I have nothing else to say. Erno

jraf, Tami and SkyDekker: Don't feed the trolls...

I totally agree. That kind of behaviour is not helping the jumper, is bad business and just generally mean. I'd recommend finding a DZ with better instructors. Erno

>I was responding to that. The nation will get punished. It is a price they will >pay to get Saddham out of power. It sucks. But if they as a people aren't >willing to do it than the US will to defend the free world in general. Okay... I think we were originally talking about retaliation to the 9-11 terrorist attacks, but you're saying that the iraqis deserve to be bombed to stoneage because they are oppressed by the government? Erno
-
Umm. yeah. Since you actually responded to my post? Either a miss-click or a glitch in the system i guess...
-
2...6? yeah that's right. I feel old... I'm over a quarter of a century old
-
WTF? I was trying to say that a terrorist attack made by people from country X does not give the target country Y the right to kill civilians in country X. Your post had to do with this how?
-
Sure he could. Then we'd have Mr. jhbgjhm gtgbmj whose email is ubjymdrvgr.fynu@juhydtrv.com And Ms. nonof.your@business.org

Basically you want to bomb all the countries, from which one terrorist is caught, to stoneage? >First, you talk about an innocent group of Afghani women. You mean > like all the innocent women in the twin towers? Are we talking about >fair treatment for non-combatants ? Everyone in the twin towers was a > non-combatant. So when they kill innocents, you suddenly also have the right to kill innocents? So who do you have the right to kill? Anyone in Afghanistan? Anyone belonging to one of the cross-border ethnic groups in the country? Anyone in the eastern hemisphere? Any muslim? >The Chinese discovered centuries ago that no one operates in a >vacuum. If you were a revolutionary, someone knew about it. If you >were caught, everyone in your family, down to first cousins was killed. >Know what happened ? Things calmed down. Yeah, and since then we some of us got civilized... Would you like a government ike that in the US? You know, if some country treated it's citizens like that, the US would go storming in defending human rights and the western civilization. But if the US decides to treat another country like that, it's ok? >Someone has committed an atrocity and expects fair treatment ? Sorry. Exactly - someone - You can't punish a nation for the deeds of an individual! Sheesh... Erno

This post made me wonder. How old are the newest PCs, and how long will it be safe to jump them? I would imagine the fabric and lines won't last forever. I've heard the riggers rule of thumb "Don't pack any parahute older than yourself", and I think that it's safe to extend to "Don't jump any parahute older than yourself", but I'm not sure I'd have the balls to jump something made in 1976... Post what yer drinkin'...continuous thread

Apple juice. I'd normally drink tap water at 18:36, but the ongoing repairs on the plumbing have turned the water an unhealthy yellow... -
