  1. >You forgot Ettan-snus, tell me you did not ment to... Hell, of course I meant to. This poll was about smoking. I'd rather start smoking again than start to use that shit... >Now Ettan rules! Well in freeflying yes, but under my lip... no thanks! and Paul: Kick the habit before your teeth turn yellow and your gums recede causing your (now yellow) teeth to fall out. Yuck.
  2. Go to http://www.dropzone.com/chat. That will redirect you to http://dropzone.com/chat, asking you to login(even though you are already logged in). Some kind of bug there. Don't login again, just re-write the 'www' to the address and you're there. The happy hours are listed at http://www.dropzone.com/pub/
  3. In Hämeenlinna the police are used to calls about people falling out of planes... I don't think we've ever called them beforehand when I was on the load. Wouldn't be a bad idea of course.
  4. This caught my eye on the Incidents forum. I had never heard about this system, is it something new? It was said that at least Sunpath and Sunrise rigging offer this option. Is the system in wide use? So there is another pair of cutaway cables routed from the reserve handle to the risers. How does this work? I assume there would have to be double ended loops like the ones found on tandem drogue releases? What advantages does this system offer when compared to more traditional systems? The only one I can think of now would be avoiding two-out situations... Those usually occur when the main is deployed too close to AAD activation altitude, and this system wont help against them. What disadvantages come with it? Obviously the fact that you can't go for the "More nylon to the mess to save my ass"-option. And there's nothing you can do if your canopy stops flying under your no-cutaway-altitude. Could someone post pictures of the system?
  5. >do you know of a real active MIRC net that usually has people, >I'll just look around at the differ ones if you don't. Nope, that's about it. #dropzone usually has people on it during wednesdays "happy hour". If you stumble upon an active skydiver chat room let us know.
  6. Here in Finland, a C-license is all you need, as long as you have permission from the land owner. Aviation regulations have to be respected of course.
  7. Or just join IRC channel #dropzone on your favorite IRC-client.
  8. Nope, never done that. Actually I don't think I've ever seen the stuff. You know, this thread is starting to feel like a gross-out contest... Bluefingers, had your lunch yet?
  9. >I don't feel like I should be having to watch out for flying residue >from someone who might get the idea that since they can't smoke.. >lets chew tobacco and spit when we fly......eeeaackkkk! The kind discussed here isn't the american kind seen in westerns. It's not sucked, chewed or spat[spitted?], it's just left under your upper lip for a while. But often it starts to drip down the users front teeth... yuck.
  10. Of course, the SOS-system. One club in Finland uses that, but I understood the system used there only has one handle. This system with a cutaway handle and a SOS-handle I haven't heard of.
  11. >Ah!! so that would explain why I nearly fell over. >That stuff kicks like a mule. Do you think you fell victim to a practical joke or was it just a genuine misunderstanding due to a language barrier? > God forbid you swallow it I'm sure that would... umm... make your stomach work really well!
  12. >Are you familliar with that type of 'chewing tobacco' >that comes in a little pouch that you put in your cheek and suck. Yeah I know the stuff, I've tried it too but it really wasn't my cup of tea... but I could feel the nicotine buzzing in my head. Strong stuff! It's pretty popular among young athletes here in Finland(especially hockey and football players), they prefer it to smoking since it doesn't ... damn, have a hole in my vocabulary here... you know, it doesn't make it difficult to breathe. It's not really sucked(at least not here), but rather placed under your upper lip and left there. The nicotine gets in your blood through your mucus membranes. The more popular type here isn't in pouches either, most people make a small 'cake' from it by using a modified syringe(without the needle of course), and then use that to place the 'cake' under their lip. Disgusting, yup, my words exactly.
  13. >Talking about quitting - I've just received a hamper of Nicorette >stop smoking stuff from a pr company ... hee hee ... I'm I the only one who thinks that it's somewhat useless trying to kick a nicotine habit by using nicotine products? Is there anybody out there who actually quit smoking with help from that stuff? And of course after that quit using the patches/hum/whatever as well? I just went cold turkey...
  14. >Then would it be good karma for the rigger to buy you BEER if he >did happen to make a mistake packing your main ? I guess so!
  15. And before anyone gets funny ideas were talking about regular over-the-counter tobacco here. Sometime ago I checked the "Top20 jumpers this year" list at my dropzone, and I was a bit surprised to see that 16/20 people on the list were smokers! So I decided to do some highly scientific research on the subject by posting a poll.
  16. Always buy your rigger the bottle. It's bad karma not to. It's not like riggers are immune to mals or anything...
  17. >So finnaly he told that he is jumping after a year. Probably because he was going to buy his own gear and hiding the gear bag wouldn't have worked...
  18. Yeah me too. It's not, like, I don't have enough T-shirts as it is...
  19. >You trying to quit? Why? I tried, and my entire office pushed me >outside, and lit one for me. It was either that or kill me I "quit" last... February I think. I've managed to only smoke a few times after that, when I've been ridiculously drunk. >On a happier note: Which non-Americans won a tshirt? ME ME ME ME ME M Yay for you. I never win anything goddamit.
  20. >It is the FULL movie They've finished it recently? I watched it a year ago and it ended somewhere around the duel of Obi-wan and Darth Vader.
  21. Ah yes. Good morning, Goiemore, God morgen and Hyvää huomenta. Looks like our NA thread survived the americans pretty well...
  22. >Most student gear has a double cutaway system, meaning if you Definitely not most... >pop the reserve it automatically chops the main. You can see a >yellow cable coming off the reserve handle next to the metal reserve >cable, this is a second cutaway cable. I have never even heard about such a system!! And here I thought I was pretty well informed about gear... So a few questions to anyone who knows: -What manufacturers' student gear has this feature? -Is it something that is always installed or is it an option? -How does it work? -You said there was only one yellow cable coming from the reserve handle; How does it cutaway both risers? -Are there double ended loops on the risers similar to tandem drogue release loops? If there's more info on the 'Net somewhere, please point me there. Erno
  23. >Cash. The only way to go. > >Earnings - Expenses = $@\/|^/£$ > >Blow $@\/|^/£$ on gear. I'm sorry, I had some difficulty understanding some parts of the post... This is something you have in Amerika, no?
  24. >Wow. You've got cows that make beer!? We will. Around the same time Nathan stops posting.
