Hold my beer Part 2 or More fun with Tazer Guns
craichead replied to JJohnson's topic in The Bonfire
Nah, watching stupid and/or drunk skydivers getting tased is better. I'm positive it's going to end up on the CSC end-of-the-year video. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC) -
Actually, they changed it this season! They added new material, and have renamed it "Blue Man Group: Rewired." I'm kind of curious...but also kind of poor. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)

Arguments for (or against) the existence of God
craichead replied to scottbre's topic in Speakers Corner
Now it is such a bizarrely improbable coincidence that anything so mindbogglingly useful [the Babel fish] could have evolved by chance that some thinkers have chosen to see it as a final and clinching proof of the non-existence of God. The argument goes something like this: "I refuse to prove that I exist," says God, "for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing." "But," says Man, "the Babel fish is a dead giveaway isn't it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and so therefore, by your own arguments, you don't. QED." "Oh dear," says God, "I hadn't thought of that," and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic. --Douglas Adams, The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC) -

What pet names do you have for your sweety?
craichead replied to ACMESkydiver's topic in The Bonfire
Hehe...AndyMan and I were just talking about this yesterday after we learned that one of our friends calls her husband "Buggy." I call Andy "Monkey" (or "Munky," as he likes to spell it) because he really likes to use the icon on the instant messaging software we use (Trillian), and he kinda looks like the icon! He also scratches his sides with his arms turned out...kinda like this. He calls me "SweetPea" or "Pea" because I often just tell people to call my by my first initial because they can't pronounce/remember Piriya. I'm his sweet P! _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC) -

LOL! That's a really good idea! Several years ago I wrote an email to M&M's asking what the Ms stood for (now listed on their web site FAQ: they stand for Mars and Murrie, the founders of the company) and also asked if the apostrophe denoted possession or plurality. If it were possession, then which "M" (Mars or Murrie) actually owns the candy? If it's plurality, then isn't the use of the apostrophe incorrect? And surely the apostophe-S wouldn't be a contraction for "is"... It was a VERY silly and rambling email. They did respond to me, but it seemed to be a "copy and paste" stock answer. I wish I still had it! _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)

I bought a pack of Dentyne Ice gum today, and on the back of the package, there's a little white text box in the right hand corner that says: Dentyne-ism #30 If at first you don't succeed, sky diving is probably not for you. So gum packs are getting into the "pithy message delivery" game along with fortune cookies now? And how on earth can they claim that saying as theirs? What is this world coming to?! Yeah, I'm stuck at work bored outta my mind, too. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)

Bush: Seeking new ways to harm the country
craichead replied to craichead's topic in Speakers Corner
No, I don't think he actually mis-spoke, either. It was just poorly phrased--comparable to a dangling participle. As the article said, Bush was working his way to a larger point that we have to be forward-thinking about how best to defend the country. The article is just a funny spin on how people might hear and interpret it. Lighten up, people! _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC) -
Bush: Seeking new ways to harm the country
craichead replied to craichead's topic in Speakers Corner
http://www.billingsgazette.com/index.php?tl=1&display=rednews/2004/08/05/build/nation/36-bushism.inc Bush misspeaks, says his administration seeking 'new ways to harm our country' Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush offered up a new entry for his catalog of "Bushisms" on Thursday, declaring that his administration will "never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people." Bush misspoke as he delivered a speech at the signing ceremony for a $417 billion defense spending bill. "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we," Bush said. "They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." No one in Bush's audience of military brass or Pentagon chiefs reacted. The president was working his way toward a larger point. "We must never stop thinking about how best to defend our country. We must always be forward-thinking," he said. White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Bush's misstatement "just shows even the most straightforward and plain-spoken people misspeak." "But the American people know this president speaks with clarity and conviction, and the terrorists know by his actions he means it," McClellan said. I can just see it now... "Hey P, you dislocated your shoulder AGAIN?! How did you do it this time?!" "Oh well...I was, er...doing some special 'maneuvers' under canopy during the special cross country at Aimee and Val's Vibe Boogie!" I guess that would definitely top my usual "I dislocated my shoulder while flaring" explanation! Erica--yes, I'm doing my shoulder exercises! My PT is being very mean to me these days. The other day, she was stretching my shoulder, moving it around, etc. and she bent my arm back in a position that REALLY hurt. I complained and she said, "Oh come on, you know you like it!" Andy said I should have replied, "Hey, you're not my husband!" _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
