  1. Is this the only shoulder dislocation you've ever had? Did you do anything weird during freefall that caused it to dislocate? My dislocations happened during flares on student canopies (NOT reaching out for the ground on landing). I flared hard, and I pretty much yanked my arm out of the socket. My doctor reports that I just have loose ligaments (he tested my left shoulder while I was asleep for surgery). Be sure to keep up with those exercises every day. After my first dislocation, I didn't keep up with them and ended up with another dislocation. I had 2 months of PT, an MRI (with contrasting dye, the arthrogram was awful) and finally surgery because I was still having sharp pains while doing simple tasks. Believe it or not, I'm looking forward to starting active exercises in physical therapy (just passive exercises right now). Having my arm in a sling and not being able to move it much really sucks. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  2. Those evil Canadians! They're hoarding all of the flu shots in Nova Scotia! _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  3. I vote for Junior Mints, too... "Who's gonna turn down a Junior Mint? It's chocolate, it's peppermint -- it's delicious!" - Kramer, in "The Junior Mints" I always think of that quote when I think of Junior Mints. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  4. http://joecartoon.atomfilms.shockwave.com/pages/monkeylooker The clicky link doesn't even seem to work (you get redirected). It works if you copy and paste the URL, though. Weird. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  5. Ohhh, Adam...yer such a cute little monkey! I'd spank you any day! _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  6. I didn't say skydivers would not be scared, but rather LESS nervous/scared because skydivers spend a fair amount of time assessing their risks. It's more likely that a skydiver would be less scared/nervous doing these "extreme" stunts because (in theory) they understand the risks better. Harnesses--check. Lots of safety gear and safety crews--check. None of which are failsafe, but still willing to do it, cos it looks FUN! The sentiment here seems to be, "I'd love to try that...and then jump off!" When we were watching the show, both Andy I were saying "I'd like to try that!" to many of the stunts. The big audience draw to these types of stunts on shows is seeing fear in the contestants. Why do you think "Fear Factor" is so popular? People like to be scared, excited, and shocked--especially when we don't actually have to engage in the scary task, but live through it vicariously. The producers are going to pick people who are going to get scared easily...more drama, more tension, more entertainment, more money. I don't think "Oh no, I'm going to lose the television competition!" is as capitivating as "Holy shit, I'm going to die!" _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  7. Absolutely...I wouldn't be too worried about sitting on the plane and passing the baton to another wingwalker--that's why it looks like a lot of fun. Definitely would be more concerned with the skill of the pilots flying that close in formation, with two inexperienced wingwalkers and a baton. Somebody could've lost an eye with that stick! _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  8. When I saw the different stunts they had to do on the Rebel Billionaire, the first thing that popped into my head was, "I wonder if a skydiver tried out for the show...and if the producers knew the candidate was a skydiver, would that person be automatically eliminated while trying to get on the show?" Just thinking that a skydiver wouldn't be as nervous/scared, therefore far less dramatic and entertaining for the cameras. The balloon walk looked cool, the tea party on top was even cooler, but the baton pass between wingwalkers was awesome! _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  9. This reminded me of "expresso." Also reminded me of "aks," as in, "Let me aks you a question." Ah, yah, HUGE pet peeve of mine, too! _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  10. I don't know anyone who has lived in a Buddhist monastary in Asia, but I have a few friends who became novice monks for a summer here in the Chicagoland area. There are a couple Thai Buddhist temples in the 'burbs. For a couple summers, I lived in the temple while I was in Thai school. Every morning we had to go to meditation and prayer. On Sundays we would have the Buddhist equivalent of Sunday School. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  11. This is what the Chicago Historical Society photo lab uses. It's not really powerful enough for museums with 1.5 million images they need to organize, but I imagine it's just what you're looking for. Unfortunately it's not freeware, but there is a trial version available for download. 14. Here is a frame from the Men's Clothing section of Square One. It's an embroidered golf shirt: https://www.square1.com/Manufacturers/Square1/cat234.html I actually have this shirt myself. Some of the people who have seen me wear it say that the parachutist looks like a squashed bug--usually it's the whuffos who say this. Skydivers recognize it immediately and think it's neat. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  15. Awww, how cute! Pooh bandages! I wanted to get those for the holes in my shoulder, but the gauze pads on them weren't big enough. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  16. I know there have been lawsuits because of illicit use/abuse of oxy, but I don't think it has actually been outlawed anywhere. It's definitely a controlled substance, and doctors need a DEA registration number to prescribe it. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  17. I had shoulder surgery two weeks ago, and I was on oxycontin for a week. It killed the pain really, really well, but it also made me super dizzy and nauseated. I was also given norco (similar to vicodin: 10mg hydrocodone/325 mg acetaminophen) for "breakthrough pain." Taking norco on top of oxy made the dizziness and nausea 10 times worse! Now I'm just on naproxen twice a day, and I sparingly take norco for breakthrough pain because it still makes me dizzy and pukey. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  18. Right, which is why I said I tend to seek advice from someone who is experienced and respected in the field in which I require advice. Obviously more women than men will be more experienced and knowledgeable in regards to tampon use and center of gravity issues in skydiving, but that doesn't mean that all women are familiar and experienced with these issues. What would've happened if you asked just females who had never used a tampon? Or freefly advice from just women who only have belly jumps? Unlikely and extreme scenarios, but seeking advice from someone just because they're male or female is silly. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  19. Interesting...I tend to seek advice from people who are experienced and respected in the field in which I'd like advice. Seeking advice based on gender is ignorant and sheltered. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)

  21. That's interesting that you're actually getting calls petitioning you for a certain vote. We just got calls essentially saying "Get out and vote!" I haven't been at home since about 1:30, so I dunno if we received any additional ones. Another interesting tidbit, the call that Andy listened to (Chris Rock) said something to the effect of "Remember what happened to us during the last election when they tried to keep us from voting? Well if that happens again, call this number..." I still love that we're getting the "black vote" calls, though. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  22. They must! Actually, they think Andy is black, since the phone is under his name. Andy picked up the call from Chris Rock, and I picked up the call from my good friend Malcolm. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  23. I think it's funny that you, my Canadian husband is 100 times more obsessed about this election than me, an American citizen who just voted. I'll pretend to be super gimpy (maybe both shoulders from surgery!) next election so that you can be my assistant. I love you! _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
  24. I left my condo 10:30am to go vote. It took me about 10 minutes to walk to my polling place, about 20 minutes to stand in line for my precinct (the polling place, a Holiday Inn, serves 2 precincts, and there was no line for the other precinct), and about 5 minutes to vote. I don't quite understand why my polling place is over half a mile away from my condo and serves two precincts. There is a perfectly huge Catholic church AND school next door and a fire station right down the road. The last two places I lived in Chicago, the polling places for each were within 2 blocks of my apartment... Oh well, I'm doing pretty well if that's my only complaint about the actual process of voting this year.
  25. I'll ask Brian himself if he's at the DZ this weekend. Although, this means I'm risking getting my usual margarita from him. The things I do for you guys! _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
