I think you missed the point. Bill already knows that the missiles are primarily used to launch satellites these days. That still doesn't negate the fact that those rockets are still produced at the facility in Littleton, which is what Jeffrey is trying to deny. As far as I can see, Bill has been sticking to the facts. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)

I think that this is the site that you're looking at (or something similar): http://www.hardylaw.net/Truth_About_Bowling.html It has some valid points. I imagine that you haven't even looked at Michael Moore's page (I'm still wondering if you've even seen the film) where he responds to those claims, just because you think that he's "sick" and full of shite. http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/wackoattacko/ I think Moore does a satisfactory job of explaining himself. Everything he says I take with several grains of salt, but I'll give him credit for making an effort to clarify. But I suppose that once you've made up your mind because somebody else told you what to believe on another web site...there's no going back. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)

No, I don't KNOW for certain what Michael Moore intended. However, I think that what Michael Moore expects is for people to think for themselves. Anyone who doesn't realise that the movie is meant as entertainment (albeit with a political agenda), well...has got bigger problems. Do you really think that the Oscars are the definitive source on what can be classified as a documentary? I'll clue you in, they're in the entertainment business, too. Bowling for Columbine is interesting, thought-provoking, but above all else entertaining...which is moot because AndyMan was thinking about a different film when he mentioned it. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)

Um, yeah...had you read my post and Andy's response, you would have seen nearly 30 posts ago that Andy established that he was mistaken and thinking of another investigative piece on the Columbine shootings. So any guy who tells a story in an entertaining, attention-getting way to suit his whimsy and agenda is "sick"? Sheesh, we all must be sick, then. I think it's obvious that Michael Moore is in the entertainment business writing books and making films; whether they're classified as "documentary" or not is arbitrary. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)

You're right, nothing was clear in Bowling for Columbine. However, there is another TV documentary (or special news/investigative report type thing) that was shown on/near the 5th annivesary. I think it was aired on MSNBC, something to the effect of "Could Columbine Have Been Prevented?" This piece did show that the parents did not involve themselves--even after several police reports and complaints had been filed by neighbors. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)

1:1:0 1 Re-dislocated shoulder while flaring. 1 Really fun skydive with my hubby who claims that he funnels our two-ways on purpose to make me feel better about my newbie flying. 0 Cases of beer owed, but I could use some to dull the pain. So, another picture from our (me and AndyMan) trip to Tennessee last weekend. We're about 4 people in from the right--I'm wearing the red Hawaiian shirt and Andy is standing to my left in the complementary blue Hawaiian shirt. Yes, we're that disgustingly cute. We're standing in front of the rickyard where they stack and burn sugar maple to make charcoal, which they use to filter the whiskey in the mellowing process (which apparently, makes it a sippin' whiskey and NOT a bourbon). http://www.jackdaniels.com/jdpics/picture.asp?id=28974 _Pm P.S.--You can take the Virtual Jack Daniel Distillery Tour. __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)

So when I first read your post, I totally missed the word "trainers." So did Andy. You should get a pic of the trainer (and the killer whale) the next time you go...we'll see which looks more like Andy. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)

Bwahahahaha! Oh...wait, I meant, "How dare you imply that my husband is stupid?!" Andy asked me to come into this thread to defend his honour (or something), but all I can say is, "It's not his fault he's Canadian." Apparently I suck at defending my husband's honour when our friend Erica brutally teases him. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)

Well, I think that the SIM is a little hard to digest. When the same concepts are presented in a reader-friendly format (simple explanations, diagrams, pictures, etc.), it just makes it easier to understand. The SIM reads exactly like it's supposed to read...like a manual. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)

A post from a fellow newbie. After I did my first tandem, I picked up this book: Parachuting: The Skydiver's Handbook I read it pretty much from cover to cover. It's a little out of date, but it helped me absorb AFF ground school a lot better, since I was already familiar with a lot of the concepts (on paper, at least). I've heard JUMP! : Skydiving Made Fun & Easy ain't so bad, either. The author (Tom Buchanan) even posts in the forums once in a while. But, as AggieDave said, you can't learn a whole lot from just reading. Go hang out at the DZ and talk to instructors and coaches.

I'm not really surprised...a little annoyed, maybe. I posted in the Safety & Training Forum recently hoping for replies from mostly coaches and instructors, and most of the replies that I received were from low-timers who were relating their experiences. While I don't mind people relating their experiences (it helps add perspective), it's odd that they're giving advice when they're not exactly qualified to give an informed answer. Although, I was also happy to see that some of those low-timers added their own "I'm a newbie, too" disclaimer. Anyway, I figure it's just human nature--wanting to be the first to point something out or say something that nobody else has...and they post no matter what their experience (or lack thereof) is. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)

I dunno Val...I did a double-take when I saw your avatar! It kinda looks like you, but there's no colour in the photo. It makes you look almost gaunt...Andy said you looked like a mime. And I'm not used to seeing you with that hairstyle... Oh for god's sake!!! How many times is this going to be posted?!?! Yes, dear. But that's not the point. What I was asking is does he have to log 80 hours MORE. That's a lot of skydives. Now if sentence is that he has to fulfill 80 hours of general community service to help charity skydiving events, that's easily done with just a few events. _Pm __ "Scared of love, love and aeroplanes...falling out, I said takes no brains." -- Andy Partridge (XTC)
