  1. By me shooting criminals who happen to be in the street in front of my home. I really don't understand why this subject raises such passion. Why do you guys (meaning: my neighbors) want to take away firearms from me that you are unlikely ever to see. Vierd. And screw the statistics. People lie with statistics routinely. 'Member about 10 years ago when all those nice tourists were being carjacked in Florida? Since Florida is a "shall issue" state, the only way to know for sure that somebody was not armed in Florida was to carjack a rental car from an international airport. But, Dr. Kallend, it's unlikely that anybody will change either of our minds about this, so the continued "look at these numbers!" "No! Look at these!" is silly. We should just put all these arguments in a folder and link to them when the subject comes up.
  2. Ah. My brother. The pistol is only necessary for killing other people. A pretty rare event. Only amateurs actually ever threaten with a pistol. The rest of us don't need firearms until other amateurs start lording them about. Then we kill those people and use their firearms until it's appropriate to discard them. Owning them in the first place is just a shortcut.
  3. Dang. I got pictures too, but they are for the JFTC calendar only. And for Mr. Tail.
  4. That looks like an etch-o-sketch on your nightstand. Something we should know?
  5. We number our DV tapes so we don't reuse them if the customer has a problem with their DVD. The DVD is edited though, very nicely, by Skye or one of our other editors. The camera fliers fly, and our editor edits, usually. Everybody is shooting 6.3 megapixel 300D or 10D Canon's. For customers, I'll shoot RAW if they want, it's their stuff, but usually it's JPEG and the files run 2 meg if they're busy and color-dense. Digital stills with DVD is exactly that, up to 100 stills on a CD-R and the DVD is on a DVD-R. Thanks to skydiver Keith (I'm being retarded and forgetting his last name right now) for the webpage redesign. Anybody who's interested can click my sig line and then click the link to Bay Area Skydiving - My Home Drop Zone, to see it.
  6. Clint, if this guy was 86'd with his camera from the other drop zone, does this mean that your drop zone is the "anything goes" or "big boy" dropzone in your area? I also haven't read, or missed, whether you think the duderon has the skills or not. Folks in that big a hurry to wear a video camera don't tend to come out as camera fliers. If the guy is a hazard, call bullshit with your DZM/O and your S&TA.
  7. I'm not really concerned about the TV bit, but there is a movie created every day from the daily's and I'll need to download into their computer. I've got an e-mail in to Schwede regarding the technical resources at the Herc end.
  8. Hey, Wendy, come on out to Byron and I'll give you a free jump ticket and hook you up with some exceptional RW, 6 to 14 way out of our KingAir. I'll throw in some nice photos too, cause it would be nice to see you again.
  9. Anybody have any experience firewiring video from a PAL camera to an NTSC camera, and vice-versa? I'm hearing the firewire transfer is automatic, but I'm hearing it from people who have not done it firsthand. JP
  10. Funny, the one time my Spectre spun up and I had to chop it I distinctly remember looking up at it and thinking "That's just not supposed to happen with one of these!" Saving the handles is just style points, Matt, Style point judgement is not in effect for first reserve rides.
  11. Please tell me that there's some chance that the British Military will re enact your Officership in the Cessna-flying Cold Warrior lookout duty you once held? Perhaps you could pilot a surveillance aircraft while being orally serviced or something? The Marines won't let me back, but I'd go. Unemployed and all....
  12. Waste of time and estrogen. Save it. Come out and have some fun. Byron Boogie by Gravity Gear the last weekend in September. Beautiful weather and more fun than most folks can stand. JP
  13. Thanks Bonnie! I have all my chargers on a strip with a DC vehicle (crap, they are 12 volt over there right?) and the voltage convertor I got for Father's day. I'm thinking digital is the way to go, I just don't want to sell the file for $5 and have somebody copy it off to everybody else. Hopefully I'll get a feel once I'm over there. Before the Finn's get to me with something called Salmiaki or something like that.
  14. Oh please, bless those folks. But please get something else if you plan to sit or FF at anytime in the future. The Wings harness and container system is the best (Yeah, my sponsored opinion), but just make sure you talk with Gravity Gear, Square One, or the Drop Shop before you buy something, you lurkers. Almost all modern gear is exceptionally safe, but there are exceptions.
  15. I am wearing my "Bay Area Skydiving Staff" T-shirt that Gravity Gear has provided at cost. Geez Bonnie is cool. And Mathias got me a EOS lens body cap at cost. I love my DZ. Come visit.
  16. I'm 40, JellyMan. I don't know what to tell you. I'm too old to be a Federal Air Marshall, but they let younger guys who screw sheep do that over here I just ground and prepped an 80 year old guy for his AFF level one with a letter from his doctor. He had declared he had hypertension, so I needed a note. Use the exchange rate to your advantage and come over here. The on-site tunnel time at Perris has got to be very attractive. Or come to Byron and be coddled by good weather and wonderful people.
  17. When my friends are concerned about my feelings, then I'm worried they may not be my friends. When you all are truly concerned, PM me, but otherwise spank me in the square and expect retribution.
  18. Sorry, SoCal, I was busy earning my freedom at Byron. Next year we shall represent. 'Member this?
  19. VEry cool Ed! How was the exit worked out? A North-South jumprun with the Suits getting out last and flying back up the jump run towards the gun club? I especially like that diamond formation!
  20. Well, I'm up against this for my Herc boogie trip. I have about a grands worth of compact flash duplication gear including the CD-R burner. I'm thinking $25 for a file. What I plan on doing is after the video daily's is showing my photos via the SmartDisk. When these hot-to-trot buyers want the file, maybe I have to get half the skydivers to buy it? Then I could sell the file for $10, pretty cheap for a high res photo, but then not caring that the other half will get the photo free from the buyers? So if I have a 20 way off the ramp, for a $100 I'll give up the file? Whatcha think? I am not giving up for the sport on this one. My video is a given, but I still have to pay airfare and gear.
  21. Roy. Please. You and I have torn the ass right out of some stellar skydives. These poor tandem students are one thing. It's just so wierd to feel a person SHAKING with adrenaline rush after a very humdrum drogue skydive. Kind of brings you back. But when you and I are assigned hanging duties and one of the hangars fails to put up? Tear it up in the coolest way possible. Been there with Roy. Done that. Got the staff T-shirt to prove it.
  22. $10 more than you charge for film. If the concession ownder provides the CD-R's and the copier, he gets $5 and you get $5 more. If you provide the copier, the CD-R's and do the work, the $10 obviously goes to you. If you charge more, folks balk and go film. We are doing a majority in digital at Byron now. We all have digi Rebels, with my 10D being the only exception. This stand-alone copier is the way to make it happen. We have a similar unit at the DZ and I have one of these for when I travel. http://search.netscape.com/ns/boomframe.jsp?query=alera+technology&page=1&offset=0&result_url=redir%3Fsrc%3Dwebsearch%26requestId%3Df6ab05eabacbabf2%26clickedItemRank%3D5%26userQuery%3Dalera%2Btechnology%26clickedItemURN%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.dpreview.com%252Fnews%252F0311%252F03111002aleraphotocruiser.asp%26invocationType%3D-%26fromPage%3DNSCPIndex2%26amp%3BampTest%3D1&remove_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dpreview.com%2Fnews%2F0311%2F03111002aleraphotocruiser.asp
  23. Beats the heck out of handing the roll of film over and never knowing how the pictures came out, huh? Nice.
  24. I am the hottie tandem instructor. Or did you mean the Army guy?
