There was a historically very significant event called "the defenestration of Prague." Um, I meant that as my piece of useless trivia. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I saw some people on CNN last night expressing their antidisestablishmentarianism by wearing t-shirts that said "Citizens rallying against protestors. CRAP" Um, that doesn't work for the definition that I know. Here's the definition: -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Anyone offering a BASE FJC in Utah is, in my opinion, criminally negligent. There are no suitable objects for a first jump in Utah. I would strongly recommend against taking a First Jump Course with someone who told you that there were. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Have you tried freepacking your skydiving canopy? That should give you a much better idea what to expect on a BASE opening. My experience has been that a very large percentage of my spins and twists came from the bag. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Hockey...hockey...hmmm.... Is that the sport where they slide the big rocks around on the ice? Wait, no, that's curling. Hmmm. What's this "hockey" sport, again? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Actually I was thinking that sometimes they don't apply when Country A arrests citizens of Country A within the borders of Country A. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

You might want to clarify _where_ this applies. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

It's going to be _very_ particular to your combination of container/canopy/pack job. I've seen people put the tail pocket as low as the bottom of the container, and as high as the warning label at the top. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Who'll be at the Perrine over the Labor Day long weekend

Is that in time for the 6am load? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com -
I've been using two wraps, same as slider down. But I think it might be important to vary it depending on the altitude--I've been jumping over the water with it. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

My question is: Did he pack it himself? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

CR slider's used to have the same "slider gate" that Vertigo uses now. CR removed them quite a while ago. I believe this was due to worries about impact on heading performance. The masking tape tailgate, as well as simply using a tailgate slider up, are both in relatively wide spread test use, and seem to be yielding good results so far. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I've always heard that the top half percent or so of income earners pays some staggeringly low amount of tax (presumably because of their ability to take advantage of loopholes, hire accountants and attorneys, move money offshore, etc). Any idea if this is true or not? I agree with the general finding of the article, which is that people with higher incomes on average (talking about working people here) work more. I have several friends with 6 figure incomes who seem to _always_ be at work. This applies particularly to attorneys and surgeons. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Was the passage blacked out before it reached the court? Or just in the publicly released documents? I'm mostly curious on outcomes. I'm pretty much outraged that they'd black that out at all. Has anyone snopes'd (is that the correct form of the e-verb?) this one? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Eh? Well it would have to be modified with "tertiary" rings, to attach the belly mount to. Perigee II's are available with tertiary rings for exactly this purpose. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

In my opinion, a terminal tower with an elevator is a better option for two reasons: 1) You get a tailwind to push you away from the object in the event of a problem under canopy. 2) You can ride the elevator back up to repeatedly practice your exit. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
-
Why? A BASE rig is far _more_ likely to open than a skydiving rig. How did the DZO contribute to the terminal impact by allowing a rig that was orders of magnitude less likely (as in, it's never happened with modern gear) to experience this malfunction? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
-
Practical? 1000 ft. Fun? 1500 ft maybe. Perhaps a bit more. Up. For sure. Slider down at wingsuit terminal would be a life altering experience (possibly a life ending one). Remember, the opening doesn't "see" your downward speed, it "sees" your total speed (so vector of down and forward speeds). 38 or 36. It won't make much difference slider up. Pin rig only. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Kennedy? Chappaquiddick? Punished eternally to diving down trying to rescue the girl he left to drown? It wasn't meant as a political comment, just an increase in funniness quotient. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Hmmm. What's that thing the state of California made me get before I could buy guns there? It sure looked like an "I'm able to purchase firearms ID" from where I was standing. I don't necessarily think it's such a good idea, but there are states that do that. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Just trying to let you know that there are some Americans who've had influences from outside the US. I expect that JK Rowling will have the next generation of American kids spelling things in the queen's english, as well. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com -

Actually, my early exposure to CS Lewis has me spelling most of those "or" words in the "our" way. I still remember arguing with my 2nd grade teacher about the correct spelling of harbour. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com -
Which would be an incomplete answer as well. It was really about class war fare, the dying of monarchies and the influence of the bolsheviks that led to the assasination. Well, sure. I wouldn't expect an average school child to give a real in depth answer, analyzing all the factors. I was just saying that in general, American schools do teach about the events leading to the outbreak of WWI, and that they don't teach that it was "all the Germans fault." -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
