I thought you'd already answered that, at least within the context of the forum: For Amusement. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Maybe you guys ought to hold a premier. Say, the weekend of October 9th and 10th? Hmmm, where would be a good location? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

On the other hand, a warning giving the specifics of your knowledge is probably a good way to blow your efforts at gaining intelligence. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Your at home viewing audience, that's who. Same people who elected Clinton... To paraphrase Nehru: Television style democracy is good. I say this because other systems are worse. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Not directed at you, but that puts me in mind of the last time I sat around a DZ and watched BASE video. It's so weird to see people oohing and aahing over relatively standard fare, but then totally missing something that's actually phenomenal. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Interesting. One of the reasons I never bothered trying to get back in at Lodi was that Bill didn't allow wing suits, and that was all I was interested in. How the times change... Oh, yeah, and Miles must have one hell of a commute to flock with you guys. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Is that a bit like posting stuff KNOWING it to be inflammatory, for amusement? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

How about defense against a rapist? Remember, gun control doesn't just take guns away from men. It also takes them away from women who are generally physically smaller and weaker, and could really use a way to equalize those disparities if attacked. Of course, in some places, they'll still be charged after shooting their assailant. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Tom's last name is Manship. He's got some insane number of jumps off this bridge--I did his number 1200 with him a week or two ago. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Where is the option for "I jump alone, and it still scares me"? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I've seen Outrager packing like this since around 1999. I also have a xerox of a set of packing instructions for this method, that was (I think--I got it third hand from KMonster) written up by Hookitt. Personally, I don't think it's much different. But I only made around 20 or 30 jumps on it around 2000 before I decided that and just went back to putting the tail pocket on top. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I also have 2 or 3 sets of water gear I could loan out for BD. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I've never seen someone leave it on before. It looks weird, but I can't think of any real arguments one way or another. I suppose you could hypothesize some sort of potential bag/bridle entanglement, and personally, I'd always leave it off in the interest of "Keep it Simple, Stupid." Still, I can't think of any real big dangers. Plus, it saves you probably close to 60 seconds of rigging. If you do 300 direct bag jumps this year, that's like 5 hours you save yourself. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Let me get this straight: "My family is so screwed up that we need the government to step in and protect us from ourselves." What's that old saying? "Healer, heal theyself?" -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Not really. I'm passing on thirdhand info. I think that any real accident analysis will have to wait until the folks who were present get home, and have a chance to sort through things. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Jeb trains/has coaches at USC (University of Southern California, in Los Angeles), if I remember correctly. There is also a fair bit of training footage on some of the Aussie videos. I remember seeing a fair bit of Dwain in the pool, belts, foam pits, etc--I believe it was on Beyond Extreme. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

News story here. Family has now been notified, so name of jumper is public knowledge. I jumped with him in a few random places around the globe. He was one of the good guys, and will be missed. Initial reports indicate a fumbled PC on an early use of the BASE PC pouch on a wingsuit. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I'm going to move this thread to the Bonfire, so that folks can continue to ramble freely... -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

It's interesting how you present two alternatives, then demand that people pick one of your pre-planned choices. I think that stage magicians do that a lot, too. For example, you might think that women are less easily pressured by society than men, hence they are unwilling to unbalance their lives for their careers, and so they focus on work less, and on things that really matter more. Which might explain why women have generally lower levels of stress, and higher levels of personal happiness. They may just be strong, and smart, enough to realize that happiness is more important than pay. Would you like me to think of some more possible scenarios? Or do you just want to admit that your two possible scenarios are far from being the _only_ two possible scenarios. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Speaking of... The weirdest thing I've ever snorted is the ashes of a dead friend. At a wake full of BASE jumpers, the strangest things seem appropriate. As far as comet, I dunno. I did see a guy snort some laundry detergent (about one good size coke line worth) in college, though. He seemed to come out of it ok. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Injuring yourself and apologizing for it ground zero
TomAiello replied to captain1's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Totally normal. I've been on scene for around 20 serious (i.e. requiring hospitalization) accidents. I've never _not_ heard a jumper apologizing when physically able to do so. I know I've done it. I just feel bad for bringing down everyone else's day. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com -
Some BASE jumpers use them, too. I understand that the trampoline was the most dangerous part of DW's training program. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Hmmm. Hardly fair. My colorblindness makes it a bit tricky. I eventually got the idea that what you had to do was give the "other" answer, though. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
