  1. I'm just curious if you can tell me what the casualty count would be were those few mortar shells we've found detonated in downtown Atlanta at rush hour? What does this have to do with anything? I was curious as to why mortar shells loaded with Ricin were not being considered weapons of mass destruction. I was trying to illustrate that if they were set off in an urban area, they would actually be quite massively destructive. edit to add: out of curiosity, would you be more or less concerned if my example were the same shells being detonated in Baghdad at rush hour? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  2. I had one of mine repaired at Action Air Parachutes, in Davis, California. It's generally my impression that when it's a matter of patching ZP, you can basically take it to any rigger qualified to do so. In other words, if you'd trust them to patch holes in your canopy, they're probably ok to patch holes in your wings. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  3. Hey, now. Why spoil the fun? I've got a great cutaway jump all planned... -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

  5. True. But laboratory ? weapons Nerve gas and other chemical weapons have certainly been found in Iraq. So have delivery systems for them. I seem to remember this debate being about whether there were "WMD's" present in Iraq, a while back. When did it shift to being a debate about the presence of laboratories and factories? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  6. I don't think anyone is disputing that there was some quantity of nerve gas, as well as scud launchers in Iraq. The real debate appears to be how much, and how quickly more could have been produced. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  7. "Live from the Sunset of the Assault Weapons Ban..." I'm just picturing some CNN crew standing out in the street, waiting for the machine gun fire to break out the moment the law sunsets... -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  8. Ahem. You've obviously never met my wife because if you had, and that was your voting criteria, you'd be voting for me. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  9. Well, if not a dam, then a nice tall tower would do. Or perhaps a giant skyscraper? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  10. I hope they're planning on building a _really_ big dam there. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  11. Don't you mean: "Ding, Dong, the wicked witch is dead...." ? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  12. OK, let's try to avoid turning this into a flame fest. That has no place here. Let's also avoid turning this into a political discussion about government policies. The place for that is Speakers Corner -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  13. I've moved this to Speakers Corner from BASE. I think I get enough of these discussions here, and I'd like to keep them out of the topical forums. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  14. That's funny. I'm non the other side of this particular election, and I haven't made more than $20k in any of the last three years. So much for the stereotype that high income makes you vote republican, and low makes you vote democrat. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  15. It would be much healthier for the economy, too. I'd imagine savings rates would take a bit of a jump... -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  16. Hey, someone modified my poll! Ach! Abuse of moderating power! Foul! -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  17. Sure. But I'm not saying that those folks will skydive drunk or stoned. Some skydivers like to drink beer when they're not jumping. We don't test them for alchohol abuse and refuse to hire them. Why should we be testing to see if someone smoked out a week ago? In either case, the impact on their jumping is very minimal. I just don't think it's fair to penalize (i.e. not hire) someone who tests positive because they (legally) smoked pot weeks ago. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  18. I went to remove it and got this message back from the editor: On the original topic, perhaps you ought to just make "one ad per item, find the category you think is best" the policy? Then we can remove the BASE one, too? I'm just thinking that there's an awful lot of stuff that could, conceivably get double posted into BASE gear (reserve canopies, helmets, camera gear, tracking suits, etc). Also, with the booming market in tracking wear, perhaps it deserves it's own category distinct from jumpsuits? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  19. I believe it's somewhere down in the French forum. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  20. Hey, how come I can't format the text in the poll? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  21. What do they do whan a Dutch jumper shows up looking for a staff position? Not hire him because he shows that he smoked a legal substance last week at home? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  22. I have a keyword notifier set up to send me an email whenever someone posts and ad with the word "BASE". I got three notices about your ad, and thought "whoa, somethings got to be wrong with the system, here..." -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  23. I think so too. I mean, if it was a nuclear blast, we're all going to know that sooner or later. A forest fire sounds pretty unlikely. On the other hand, maybe it was a downed alien spacecraft, and the MIB planted the whole forest fire story... -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Well, it was a BASE jump. And I do know a BASE jumper who was just over there. I'll keep an eye on the thread. Let's not turn it into a debate of US foreign policy, or it'll end up in Speakers Corner for sure. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
  25. I wonder if it would be possible to post a classified ad into multiple categories without having to retype all the information? For example, if one wanted to sell a pair of Birdman BASE Track Pantz, you might conceivably type the add in three times--once in BASE gear, once in Wingsuits, and once in Jumpsuits. It would save a lot of repetition if the ad submission form just had a checkbox for "second category" that allowed you to select a second category (or perhaps a third). Anyway, just a thought. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
