Someone asked me about the flight schedule, so here it is. All flights are Skywest, booked through Delta. Leave SLC Arrive TF 8:20am 9:14am 11:00am 11:57am 1:50pm 2:49pm 5:00pm 5:56pm 9:10pm 10:09pm Leave TF Arrive SLC 6:53am 7:45am 9:37am 10:29am 12:22pm 1:15pm 3:19pm 4:10pm 6:14pm 7:04pm -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

There are five daily flights in each direction (TWF-SLC). In general, the layovers ought to be pretty short. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Is it possible to figure out which users get bumped (and get the "unable to access" messages) when usage is high. I'm just thinking that prioritizing this could have a lot of uses. You could prioritize SC last, for example, so that people having jumping discussions would get priority on the site's bandwidth. You could also prioritize premier members (now there's something I'd pay for!). Don't even know if it's possible, but just a thought. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Flying into Twin is definitely the way to go if you can swing the price. If you buy the ticket well in advance, it's only an extra $50-75 over SLC. Basically, you get to fly that leg (all TF flights go to/from SLC) in a plane instead of a car. The airport is about 5 minutes south of town, so it's about 15 minutes to the bridge (which is on the north edge of town) if traffic is heavy on Blue Lakes. The only better option is to fly yourself into the Jerome airport, which is the closest runway to the bridge. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I have posted a video, courtesy of BASE 434, of a Phoenix Pants (only--no jacked) track. You can find it on my web page here. I'll also upload it to Skydivingmovies.com. edit: file is also on skydivingmovies.com. When it gets categorized, I'll try to post here with an updated location. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

True. In the email he doesn't mention having a jacket on. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I just saw a video that a friend in Norway sent me. Even with a belly mount, he's making it about as far as I can in a Classic. Wow. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

There's a whole thread about the event here. The jumpers in question are actually not very well liked or respected in the BASE world. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Well, we can now put that to rest and move on.

My purpose in posting this was to express that this kind of discussion is not acceptable in this forum. It was not to continue the discussion. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Thanks for the info on the PF gear! But... Beer is for skydiving. BASE jumpers need something stronger. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I have to admit between that and the translation from Portugese, you're pretty far ahead of the pack for funniest poster of the year. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I don't know that you'd want any more of a snivel on a wingsuit jump than any other jump. Perhaps someone else can comment on that? You can slow a BASE canopy down quite a bit by (a) using a sail slider, and (b) putting it in a bag. There are numerous other ways to effect the speed of the opening, but those are the two big ones. I've made several skydives on this kind of setup (BASE canopy with sail slider and bag) and the openings seemed very soft and slow to me. Note, though that my basis for comparison is generally BASE openings, so your feelings about the relative hardness of the openings may vary. In the US, only the container and reserve system needs a TSO. You can put anything you want in as a main. This is not true everywhere. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I have removed the "Anybody Know This Guy" thread. I don't know any of the people involved, and I don't know anything about the situation, but I am simply not comfortable with a discussion of someone in that detail on this forum. I'd recommend taking that kind of discussion to PM or email. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Is it a wingsuit-only canopy? And do you care about any of it's other characteristics (canopy flight, for example)? In terms of docile canopies, consistent opening, easy to deal with, not prone to twists, you might consider using a BASE canopy. At least one BASE manufacturer (Atair) had made some scaled down versions of their BASE canopy, with things like microline to reduce pack volume, that would probably work great in a skydiving environment. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Hmmm. I'm surprised you didn't know that before. But if you need a volunteer to practice, I'm sure you can find many here... -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Ok, the course is full. Demand for this was overwhelming. I received 23 requests from prospective students, and 11 requests for more information from possible future students or from other jumpers interested in some of the material. I will try to publish as much of my course materials on line as possible, as time permits (I want to organize them a bit more before that kind of release). I will likely hold more of these courses in the future. I am considering a November course (still trying to decide if the weather will allow that), and will hold another course in the spring. If the response is positive, I will probably continue to do this at regular intervals. I’ve already notified all accepted students, and most of the other applicants (I’m hoping I haven’t missed anyone, but with applications coming in at least four different ways, it’s been a little chaotic). I’ve had several requests from other jumpers to audit portions of the class. I’ll consider that and respond to those people individually. Thanks! -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

I really wasn't trying to comment on this specific situation (see the first line of my post). I was just saying that lynch mobs have a place, and that place is when there is no other form of law available. The reason that is their only place is because they are imprecise, inefficient and prone to mistakes. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

For those of you who don't know him, Douggs is currently my pick for the title of "Best All Around BASE Jumper in the World". And that includes the criteria where being the best means having the most fun. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Ah. I forgot that, and it's one of my favorites. I actually can't remember the street names. It's just off Gooding, somewhere around 4th South, I think. -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Without commenting on this specific situation: I will. There is no law in this here town (this here town being the modern international arena). With no effective court system, no official police force, and no justice for powerful criminals, what real choice is there aside from lynch mob justice? -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

Might want to reconsider posting things like that... -- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
