  1. This is of course just me scratching an itch.... but would this REALLY be so bad? Of course main and reserve pre-matures can kill people, but we're talking a canopy the size of a pilot chute, that puts on average about 70 lbs of force... Remember that your head alone weighs in at an average of 11 pounds (8% of body weight), so 70 pounds of force really isn't that much, I don't think...? But it's 70lbs of instant force... on the neck. I'm thinking about how abruptly I get stood up after dumping (before any main fabric is in the air), and that's from flat. I would not want that force acting unexpectedly on my neck. I wonder about the physics... I'm imagining a broken one. Perhaps anyone on here who has experienced bag lock could tell us about it? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  2. I hear "go witht the Sony" so much. I guess I'm looking for justification is spending the extra $$$. Could anyone provide any info on jumping other brands? How do the Cannon digital camcorders fair? JVC, Panasonic? Favourite cams. I've done a search figuring "what's the best camera?" must have been asked dozens of times but I'm not finding exactly what I'm looking for. Any and all info will be much appreciated. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  3. What about Cannon digital camcorders? Anyone have any advice on these? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  4. I would hate to have a premature on that baby! Could you imagine being head down when a pilot chute comes out... attached to your head!?! [shudder] My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  5. No, I don't think that's true. By the way, since we're talking about Bowling for Columbine, who's seen it, and who thinks it's one of the best movies out there? Watching this really makes you change the way you view our country... Bwahaahaaaa! I thought it was a great movie. The trick, IMHO, is to determine what he is not saying... before attempting to decipher what he is saying. An interesting concept for a documentary. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  6. The first step in solving a problem is acknowledging you have one. I truly beleive that Bowling put bees in so many American Bonnets with it's apparent and obviously intentional misdirections that they cannot see the intended message. Then there are those who simply stick to their guns [snicker] with one single argument even once the conversation has moved on. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  7. Why? Does speaking certain langauges make a person more likely to commit murder? Are you smoking crack John? Read up. I'm not saying this at all. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  8. I think it was a joke. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  9. Hehee, I would chose 1 too... but I don't really like those as my only two options. I'm assuming from the original post, that it's not "I'm leaving, back me up or convince me not to". Karen is looking for education upon which she will make a decision. "So called" ?? Give her your oppinion, but be sure to state it as oppinion. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  10. Yeah, the title could just as easily have been Vegans- help needed: "My boyfriend is becoming a vegan and I'm afraid it will tear us apart... yadda yadda yadda." The answer is "work hard to make it work."... and then there are tips at what you can do to help "make it work"... that's why you create the thread in the first place... to find tips on how "to make it work". True, but "Run away. The J.W. will take away all your friends and ruin your life isn't either." My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  11. You don't, as an initiation into the club, have to just drop your friends. There is a such thing as 'falling into the wrong crowd' and the above quote deals solely with that. Recognise if you are not living morally and fix the problems. No J.W. I have ever spoken to has told me to dump friends. Yeah, but that's the individual again. Your ex was giving advice that the J.W. would never agree with. They all beleive the end is coming, many beleive it is coming soon. But the J.W. view is that this is all the beter a reason to live you life properly... not the world is ending, so who cares about shcool. Your ex was not doing her religion a favour by speaking on it's behalf My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  12. Holly sh*t guy! Time to switch to the decaf I think. These are not the words of someone who has done "some research"... my goodness, these areen't even the words of someone who has read past the first few posts of this thread! Talk about cut and paste... this like, is the first few posts of this thread! lol Seriously dude, decaf, a good book, deep breaths... and intelligent input to an intelligent conversation. Instead of simple... My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  13. Please don't be like this. The difference between a religion and a cult is a lot smaller than you think. It really only boils down to the number of members. They both try to "fill a void" in the new joiner at the cost of some form of sacrafise... they both obtain their new members by promising to help fill that void. They both promise answers. In fact, in a world religion course, we were taught that all religious groups started off as no more that cults and it makes much sense if you stop to think about a religion you know and imagine it at it's grass-roots begining with very few members. Having said that. I can imagine the tension between a couple where one is not religious and the other is J.W. The Jehova's Whitness take the Bible quite literally. It's not that they beleive "a certain few" will inherit the earth. They beleive that when judgment day comes, that all the dead will rise, that God's plan for earth will be complete and that we will live in a paradise on earth. It is heaven that receives the "certain few". (There is a Bible passage that says only 140 thousand people will sit with Jesus in the kindom of Heaven). They read in the Bible that they are supposed to spread Christ's word, so some of them go door to door. They read in the Bible that they are not to celebrate Pagan rituals, so most of them don't even celebrate their own Birt-days. The thing about the Jehova's Whitness is that they base everything on the good book at a very literall level. If you've ever spoken to one that visited your house, you'd see how they apparently have an answer for everything. Ask a question and you will be shown a passage. Now I'm not a very religious person at all beleive me. I was raised a catholic but renounced it in high school and am now a self-proclaimed agnostic (as in the "I believe there is something... but I'm not going to concern myself with any form of organised religion or ritual" type) But I love people so religion is a favorite topic for me as it teaches me more and more about the differences in people. If I can offer any sort of sound advice it would be this: You know him well. The best thing you can do for him is support him and keep an eye out for him. You may feel like he's joining for the wrong reasons... if this is the way you feel, it is a valid concern that you should address. But if the man is decided, then there is little you can or should do to stop him. The spiritual passage is chosen by the individual. So then this too must be discussed. It's good to discuss religion and faith... it's bad to force yours onto someone else. "To each their own" in this case, means you are okay with him becoming J.W... but he has to be okay with you not becoming J.W. Taking the Bible literally, the J.W. believe they are saving those that they convert so they try so very hard. If you are uncomfortable with his approach when discussing these things tell him so. Not quite convinced that you are damned?... tell him you live a "Clean and moral life"... that's really all you need to do to be all good in the eyes of you maker... that'll shut him up My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  14. Pelvis and Tailbone? OUCH that can't be good! So sorry to hear it. Please take care of yourself and heal fast. Sending {{{{VIBES}}}} your way from Ontario. Nick My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  15. Nice! .... Am I the only one that sees a baboon face in there? lol Nick My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  16. Hear Hear!!! That's what I do! Yeah, and so do I! My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  17. Haven't seen it yet but I saw a bit of the skydiving scene on TV. He appears to be speaking into a headset in freefall ??? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  18. risk his life? If you ask me, GWB was in the safest place he could possibly have been in. It's the last place you'd expect him... and just look at the company he's with. My first reaction was jokingly: "Ha, he must have gotten some sort of threat and figured he'd spend spanks-giving with the troops." lol My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  19. Which btw is a Thin Lizzy song. Though my favorite cover they did is the Misfits' Die Die My Darling. That song is a wee bit older than that - it's an Irish Folk song. But Metallica was inspired by the Lizzy version. Whiskey in the Jar-OH lol Hmmm, I thought it was Danzig's version? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  20. I think it's when a not-so-cool kid keeps fallowing you and the cool kids around nomatter how many times you tell them to go away. Or when you want to go out and play, but you mom tells you you have to bring your little brother with you. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  21. This is what I do also. It's better than putting them in a bag (which is acceptable too) because they keep the familiar bottom medium and whatnot. Drain it down only as much as is required to be able to move the tank. It's no thing... fishies are used to the water level changing. Keep it and be sure to put the same water back... unless your due for a partial water change anyway that is. African Chiclids? Got a bunch of rocks and rock-caves in there? Word of the wise: don't drain the water unless you can see both of 'em... don't want one of them getting stuck in one of the tank decors. lol What type? I have a couple auratus. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  22. Thinking of Diversity as 'Differences'... and applying it to people... let's try something out. Let's compare Languages spoken and Religions practiced in both Countries. I beleive the numbers will be similar... yet different Let’s try languages first. 2000, USA census: 82.1% of the population reports speaking only English. Of the non-English languages (17.9%), the largest numbers are found (in descending order) in Spanish, Chinese, French, German, Tagalog then Vietnamese. 2.7% report Asian and Pacific Islander languages. (I though this funny as 2.7% of Canada’s population is Chinese, just Chinese… and the Oriental population of Canada was entirely left out of Johns numbers for Canada) 2001, Canada census: 59.1% of the population report English as their mother tongue. 22.9 % report French as their mother tongue. 31% of the population report that they are proficiently bilingual at both (Canada btw, if officially a bilingual Country) 18% of the population are allophones, reporting languages such as Chinese, Punjabi, Arabic, Urdu, Tagalog and Tamil, Dravidian, a family of languages spoken by the traditional inhabitants of parts of India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, Pashto, one of the national languages of Afghanistan; Twi, a language spoken principally by people living in southern Ghana; and Konkani, a language spoken in India. Note: Someones going to say: "17.9% allophones in the U.S. and 18% in Canada is not that different"... but read into it. The USA census puts the French-speaking in with it's "non-english"... Canada's 18% allophone stat does not. Throw them in for shit's and giggles and you end up with 40.9% of Canadians do not speak English at home. Okay, now let’s have a gander at religion. 2001, Canada Census 83.8% of the population identify with a specific religion 43.2% Roman Catholic 29.4% Protestant 2% Muslim 1.1% Jewish That leaves 8.1% of the population that identify with an “other” religion Buddhism (1%), Hinduism (1%) and Sikh (0.9%) already outnumber the percentage of Americans subscribing to “Other” religion. 2001, USA ARIS study* 81% of Americans identify with a specific religion 52% Protestant 24.5% Roman Catholic 1.3% Jewish 0.5% Muslim That leaves 2.7% of the population who report identifying with some “other” religion. *-Data from the 2001 ARIS study (Census cannot ask for religion in the US anymore) My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  23. 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 C): Californians shiver uncontrollably. Canadians plant gardens. 35 Fahrenheit (1.6 C): Italian cars won't start. Canadians drive with the windows down. 32 Fahrenheit (0 C): American water freezes. Canadian water gets thicker. 0 Fahrenheit (-17.9 C): New York City landlords finally turn on the heat. Canadians have the last cookout of the season. -60 Fahrenheit (-51 C): Mt. St. Helens freezes. Canadian Girl Guides sell cookies door-to-door. -100 Fahrenheit (-73 C): Santa Claus abandons the North Pole. Canadians pull down their ear flaps. -173 Fahrenheit (-114 C) Ethyl alcohol Freezes. Canadians get frustrated when they can't thaw the keg. -460 Fahrenheit (-273 C) Absolute zero; all atomic motion stops. Canadians start saying "cold, eh?" -500 Fahrenheit (-295 C): Hell freezes over. The Leafs win the Stanley Cup. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  24. Only if you disregard all of that information which I provided from Kleck, showing how the number of justifiable homicides reported by the FBI is grossly understated. I know it's convenient to ignore facts which don't match your beliefs, but it doesn't do much for critical analysis. Dude! You changed what the man said in order to negate it... didn't you? He said 'struck by lightning' and you changed it to 'killed by lighting' That's all I was calling you on. Frankly, I don't care about what you had posted except that you had messed with someones statements to debunk them and I called you on it. If I must though... You had agreed to some 143 'justifiable homicides' and then put all that Kleck info up to... do you think the Kleck info would possibly bump that number to over 300? I don't think so. Therefore, you are more likely to be struck by lightning than use a gun to kill in self defense and that's that! My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  25. What details were you looking for, Goose? I'll supply them if it's not to personal. I'd also add that table related deaths is not a phrase I used, and the examples I supplied were simply to demonstrate that violence does not rely on guns, but rather the mentality of the violent one. Oh none. I just didn't know if the person you were speaking of actually killed someone with a table rather than assaulting them... it's moot really. Sorry 'bout the quotation marks... guess they should have closed around the word "Table". Again, Moot. I agree with your stance... my posts to this thread have included, many times now, that I don't think guns are the problem. Agreed, the film was not about gun control. It was simply about how bad guns are, and how horrible the NRA is. No it wasn't! No it wasn't! It's about VIOLENCE and OPPRESSION in American society? That statement is completely false. Moore doesn't think guns are bad per say. Guns are just an easy way to keep track of violence because they are tools of violence. I'm not too sure you can find stats on "table" assaults. That's all I was getting at by refering to your post. I agree that guns aren't the problem... Moore agrees that guns aren't the problem. And that, to me, is the crux of the matter. Why is that? And is that a true statement? I am not doubting you, but I am curious as to the studies done, independent and bias free, of violence in the US v. violence in other societies and cultures. Well, I would present the fact that nobody in on this thread has yet contested it as proof that it is, at the very least, accepted. The Biggest question asked in Bowling was Why do more Americans shoot eachother every year than any other similar nation?... and it's all been about "Don't blame the guns!" since. That's why I say "..forest for the trees" I blame the Americans doing the shooting...and the all the ones who refuse to care, saying "It's not my fault" My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
