  1. It seems to be pattern here, that important things be repeated. Else they be burried. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  2. Uh, the same thing could be said of almost any country, religion, race.... [SNIP] Start other threads then. THIS thread is about AMERICAN troops, shooting innocents in the street and driving away. It is also about how little people care about this occuring. You point your finger now, quite literally, at everyone else. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  3. Ron, Quick newsflash: This thread is relating to an article which tells the story of American troops shooting innocents and then driving away. First off, I cannot believe you find someone calling them cowards to be a bigger offense. (Even if he didn't have the guts to say it to their faces there cowboy.) Secondly, why get all hung up on this and distract from the actual topic of this thread? How little America values the life of non-Americans. Confused, they may be. But cowardice is the key factor here displayed when the men shot before knowing they were actually threatened (shooting out of fear) and when they drove off (fear of reprisal for their actions) I would make no reservations about telling either of them this. If it got me shot, I'd of done my part to show just how twisted this is; to give people license to treat life like garbage... There's dying for your statement for ya. There is an Iraqi police general in a hospital bed who confirms the troops had no idea who they were shooting at and clearly didn't care. This is cowardice. I now return you to your regularily sheduled banter about America and how great it is. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

    Smoking

With all due respect, what point are you trying to make? Yes, laws are created to stop something that is wrong or harmful to others. In this case, smoking at the wheel is arguably an increasingly large factor in the motor vehicle accidents occuring each year and they are considering passing a law to prohibit it. But some drive when their licences are suspended. I don't see the relation other then the fact that it has to do with driving. There is many a way to kill with your car. That they should not pass a law against smoking while driving because people drive without their licences and don't get caught. Is just as obsurd as: That people should not have to wear seatbelts because others speed. That people should not be made to obey the speed limit because others don't insure their vehicles? That people should not have to insure their vehicles because others drink and dirve. That people should not have to drive sober because others don't have their vehicles properly maintained. There are many ways to be irresponsible. Pointing your finger at someone doing something else when we are addressing what you have done is one of them. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

  6. I've said it before: If there was a real life James Bond... The villain he would save the world from in his first movie er... adventure, would be Bill Gates. (His second, we would be surprised to find, is Michel Jackson and the army of children who's hidden lair is beneath never-never land.) My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

    Smoking

But it's so much easier to throw it out the window then have to butt it out... let's see you butt out a cigarette without thaking your eyes off the road or burning your fingers. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

    Smoking

And another thing. Let's not all forget the all-important statement: Driving is not a right, it's a priviledge. A priviledge awarded by the powers that be and if they decree that smoking makes driving more dangerous and should not be done, then we will have to make a choice to drive or to smoke. Smoking

I agree but once again. I work for an insurance company that does things by the numbers. The numbers don't lie. Call your company today and ask. Cigarette smoking distracts you from the road much much more that listening to your music... even dancing to it. lol. In fact, the number of accidents due to use of the radio are all but insignificant in comparison... sorta along the same numbers as people crashing because they were messing around with the climate control and stuff. Shit does happen... but drivers smoking does increase the number of times shit happens dramatically. Again, I'm not pushing for this law but... the road doesn't belong to us. And the truth is that the individual has no idea of the impact that smoking in our cars has on the safety of the roads like the government and insurance companies do. They (government) are now thinking of passing a law which prohibits you from enjoying the very product they make so many millions of dollars for... in your cars, where you spend a great great chunk of your time. What does that say to you? What motivation do you supposed this comes by? You think they're just trying to give you a hard time? Again, the numbers don't lie. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

The radio (and other musice players) are not quite as culprit. Listening to music does not impeed your ability to focus on the road. And it's the law that the the radio in your car be installed such that you can operate it without taking your eyes off the road. It is also your responsibility as a driver to learn to do so. Eating... I'm guilty of it but the road is simply not the place and deep down, we all know it. Accidents are caused because of peple eating in their cars... are you about to say they aren't? But again, not quite as culprit as smoking. You can say how some peopel are too dumb to multy task but can you imagine what things would be like if we all paid attention to what we were doing on the road? I'm not kidding in my earlier post. Some of you more cynical types should call your insurance companies and ask claim report takers just how many accidents occur in a year because someone was lighting up a butt.. or fiddling around in their car for one.. or freaking out because they fired one out the window and then thought they could smell the carpet burning and got paranoid that it didn't really clear the window... or are patting their laps to stop the burning because a cinder fell on them... All of these happen very frequently. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

    Smoking

I agree that it is a bit much... But, that's only given how far we have deteriorated the sense of responsibility in a car. To play devils advocate for just a minute: If you recal, the proper way to drive a car (as per the owners manual and all official training classes) is with both hands on the wheel. Smoking a cigarette, for most, impedes your ability to put them there. If you ride a motorcycle, you soon become aware that most people do all within their power to not concentrate on what they are doing when driving a car. lol. I work in insurance. There is no arguing the great number of car accidents caused by a driver momentarily looking away from the road to light a smoke. Again, it's not that I would push for such a law. But you saying: "You own personal car, for christ's sake!!!" does in fact display that you think about you in your car... and forget about others in theirs. Perhaps if this new potential law had been worded "The highways will be non-smoking areas." then it would be a clearer message. The road is shared by a great many people. All risking their lives to get where they are going... Not just you, sittin' pretty and smoking away. [takes off the devil horns and advocates italian suit] Nick My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  12. Nice, nice. Just keep your cool and be yourself. The email thing is good but don't abuse the backspace key... lol. It's too easy to make yourself look good if your only communicating in text. lol. And also, if you find yourself all of the sudden in a hot e-flirting type scenario... ... ask if she's seeing anyone before you proceed to the "showing up and biting her neck" phase. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  13. hehee. I was just suggesting technique for the meek! If you've got the cahonies, what I would do is take just enough time off work to get to her building just before she's off and stop in saying: "I got off a little early and thought I'd come say Hi". This communicates certain things as you have made an effort clearly just to see her. A small one it may be. Ask if she'd like to go for a drink or a walk or something when she's done her shift. If so, let her get ahead of you a bit and then bite her neck from behind. That's what I'd do.
  14. I agree with most on here, flowers will be a little heavy. If mainly because she will have to tell everyone who they are from. I'm picturing you at a desk...Does your corporation email? You know, it's the information age, if you are truly really nervous about calling her, you could sorta send a quick hello via email and see if you can get a good back and forth going. After chatting abit, you could just give your number and say "Hey, maybe you'd like to give me a call sometime, chat it up in person." ... just a thought.
  15. Bah! Don't apologize. Do your search, but realise there are new people on the boards everyday and things do evolve.

  17. I will indeed land a few exactly as you are describing. Please don't take my continued requests for clarification as simple argument though. This is something that I find very frustrating. How things were being added-in somehow, between my posts and Bills responses. And now we've got this here: I'm sorry I can't picture it. And again, I'm begining to feel like some are thinking I just don't want to listen. I assure you if that was the case, I wouldn't be posting at all... just doing my thing. At least you said "potentially" but if you read my described setup, you'll note my 180 is initiated at the end of my downwind leg. I've said, as a matter of fact, that my downwind leg is flown exactly the same as it would if I was doing only 90s... I just continue it a tiny bit longer, getting down the extra 50-100 feet. How is it that I'm flying at people on final? My downwind leg is not up the middle of the field... it's at the most-extreme downwind-leg side of the field like in my diagrams. I've also said that if the winds are such that the downwind leg of the pattern is the furthest side of the field from the packing area, I'm walking back. IOW, how am I flying at people on final anymore than the guy behind me planning on turning a 90 degree base? Nick My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  18. I leave a pretty good length myself. I don't think 24 inches would be much of an issue unless you are not storing them proper... cornering them and whatnot. I did do a jump where only the locking stowes were on... the line was all freestowed in the container figure 8 style. It gave me the first-jump willies at pull time but a wonderful opening ensued. 19. I've read every post in this thread. Okay Chachi, but I do have a few questions. If you don't mind, let's go through what you had said in that post. (ephasis mine) Okay so right off the bat, let's eliminated this cause of conflict and confusion because your downwind leg really shouldn't be down the middle of the field right? I mean, lets not add stuff to the mix. My setup, for example, has the same downwind leg as any other in a proper pattern... not right up the middle. If the wind is such that my downwind leg is furthest from the packing area, I do my walking.
  20. Perfectly legal here in Ontario In fact, went swimmin' just this past weekend with many a topless sky chiky. GOD I LOVE CANADA! My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

  23. Hey Frank, I now have just under 300 jumps, the canopy is still a Sam 136 loaded at 1.2. What I'm doing today is complete my downwind leg at about 480 feet, usually in some breaks. I then lay off the breaks and get on both fronts. Then I lift my outside leg and offset the risers to start the turn. The turn itself is not 'snapped' but a continuous carve through 180 degrees. I'm thinking one can truly generate nearly as much speed with this as they can with 'hucking' themselves out from under the fabric, initiating the dive/turn and then swinging back under it. The lines are always loaded and I can adjust the steepness of the dive or the radius of the turn throughout it by changing the pull on, or the the offset of the risers. To keep in the spirit of this thread, I chose the most downwind-base corner of the field because it gives me the field downwind of us and our entire field laterally from me as outs. Also, because where it is initiated is just about where you would expect me to turn a base leg if flying behind me. If I am approaching my corner and see someone coming straight in for some reason, I am still able to complete two 90s -possibly flat if need be- to accommodate. I did do a 270 once last year with some advice but it was a big big deal for me. I'll be sticking with these 180s and this canopy for a while. Any advice you may be able to provide would be well-received
