  1. Since I've never had surgery, I'd say that welders have had far more impact on my life than surgeons. uhg.... I've also never had surgery... but I have cashiers, cooks, waiters etc.. service me every day, maybe their training and expertise is as valuable too right? *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.----
  2. Your missing the entire concept if you need that explained to you. No, I get it, but I don't think you get how others see the big picture. When they're on the way to the site of a rescue, they have to be thinking, "I hope they didn't already buy a card." No, your missing the big picture. The entities involved get paid for the rescue either way, either through the fund or private payment. The cost and reimbursement should be the same regardless. Here is the page that better explains what the Colorado Search and Rescue Fund is all about. http://dola.colorado.gov/dlg/fa/sar/index.html *I am not afraid of dying... 3. That would be absurd... the cost of rescue should be based on the resources used not how/who will be funding it. Your missing the entire concept if you need that explained to you. Back to the first reply. -- In this particular tree rescue, I agree that it sounds like the charges are way too high, but this is not the same thing as what I'm talking about with the Colorado Outdoor Recreation Search and Rescue. *I am not afraid of dying... 4. Sorry, anyway you look at it... in the end, a welders expertise is NOT as valuable as a surgeons expertise. *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.----
  5. That can get confusing... in many cases MDs and PAs are employed by a 'physicians network' who intern provides their services to area hospitals. The hospital will charge their facility and supply fees and the physicians network will charge for the service provided by their practitioner. *I am not afraid of dying... 6. Yeah but that same doctor can also do a thoracotomy (crack your chest open) and massage your heart if need be. Sometimes they also need to delegate people to do the small shit like stitching a cut. Also, I don't know many people that would just let any random person stitch them up, or make the decision of whether or not to do so for that matter. *I am not afraid of dying... 7. So, kinda like the families and homeowners who live within only a "Volunteer FD" protected district. To draw a parallel? When you donate to the local FD company, they send you a wallet card and a window sticker. There's several highly-publicized instances out there of just how well this "works" at times too. I think to a large degree it makes good sense... It is designed to cover many of those who are at a greater risk of needing rescue: "Anyone with a current hunting/fishing license, or boat, snowmobile, ATV registration is already covered by the fund." I also know that a lot of back-country skiers/snowboarders buy a permit that will cover them in the event of needed rescue. The thing is here in Colorado we get a lot of Clark Griswold like families that think they can just come out here and, do their first 14er, back-country skying/snowmobiling/camping/hunting/fishing, you name it... sometimes these search and rescue missions take days and include many, many people, helicopters, ATV's, etc.... I think it's completely reasonable to charge people for these rescues..., and also to have a fund that may cover that expense for those that are wise enough to contribute to it. I don't think you can compare it to the private fire dept concept, because a fire can happen by accident at any time and effect anyone. When you wander into the mountains you are automatically putting yourself at risk for a reason to need 'search and rescue', something that you introduced onto yourself and could have been avoided. *I am not afraid of dying... 8. In general, I think that is a great idea... however here in Colorado I don't think that it's feasible, given the high volume of search and rescue missions. However, here we can buy a Colorado Outdoor Recreation Search and Rescue (CORSAR) Card for only $3/yr and it covers any needed search and rescue via fund donations.

  10. When somebody wants to go boating but they can't because their trailer is bent and broke (because they were a dumbass and jack knifed it backing up), they will pay. Besides, it was a small quick job ,less than five minutes, and even at my copycat exorbitant rates it was still only $200. Small change for him. I still love to remember the look on his face! Oh... that actually doesn't sound too outrageous. *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.----
  11. I find your story hard to believe... If your trying to charge him (the doc) likely 10 times what any other welder would have charged... why would he not just let you "un-repair" your over-valued work and just pay someone else who isn't completely unreasonable. *I am not afraid of dying... 12. Performing surgery on human beings, that can die during said surgery or turn around and try to sue you for millions of dollars after even successful surgery, and then caring for those patients for months and years after surgery..... vs. welding pieces of metal together. Yeah, I can see where you felt you deserved the same compensation. *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.----
  13. hahaha... I don't think you could find a single thing that's actually cheaper in Dubai. *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.----
  14. Ummm yeah that scene was NICE! There were many nice scenes in that movie...

  16. wait... what? lol, not following you. Now you know why I used the qualifier "sheepishly," haha. I'm not proud of it, but hopefully that little lesson can help somebody else! I'm not getting that either. *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.----

  21. COLORADO is the only place in the US where you can find one hotel that is within 30 min of ~6-7 big mountain resorts including: Vail, Beaver Creek, Keystone, Loveland, A-Basin, Breckenridge, Copper Mtn. Plus you can take a day off and drive an hour and 15 min to Denver and see some museums, go to the tunnel, or if the weather happens to be nice enough head to Mile-Hi and get some jumps in. *I am not afraid of dying... I am afraid of missing life.* ----Disclaimer: I don't know shit about skydiving.----
  22. Typical. Try seeing the message. He's pointing out that it's a slippery, and rather short slope from this, to "papers please". Obviously some of us see this as a minor detail in airport security, and some see it as a big deal or some sort of stepping stone to 'national lock down'. If there ever came a point that I felt things were getting way out of hand I would agree something would need to be done, I just don't have a problem with airport security as it is now and when done in a respectable fashion. I think you guys are making such a big deal out of this that it's bordering on conspiracy theory for you. *I am not afraid of dying... 23. "It's only a little yellow star". Rachel said to her husband David. David was uncomfortable as she sewed it on to his overcoat. "But yes my love, a small star it is . But what a large identifier!"said David. "Oh nonsense",says Rachel, " what have you to worry about? You've done no wrong." "Grow up a few years" Get it Lindsey? Fair Winds and Unlimited Ceilings through Truth and Enlightenment, "Treetop" a.k.a. LORD OF THE SKY Your actually trying to... in some way... compare this to the Holocaust.... No,ridestrong, .., I'm not trying to.., I am comparing it exactly to the small steps the Nazis took before the Jews finally rrealized they were being marched into the gas chambers. bla bla bla.... So that's not an "example" of the Holocaust.. Those "small steps" as you put them, led to the slaughter of MILLIONS of innocent people... If you think that the small steps that airport security is taking is in ANY WAY similar your entire example is either: a) completely ignorant or b) truly insulting... take your pick. *I am not afraid of dying... 25. If you've never been to the tunnel, you will most likely have to show proficiency in belly and back flying before they let you sit. I think you will find that back flying in the tunnel can be somewhat frustrating. You will likely need ~30+ min of tunnel time before they let you sit, and plenty more than that before your attempting head-down. *I am not afraid of dying...
