  1. Offshore drilling=nailing some chick on my boat! "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  2. The fact that you have to justify your own actions by pointing out some sort of deficit w/ Wal-Mart's behavior lets everybody know that you already know that it is wrong. If your actions are morally correct you should be willing to engage in the same behavior w/ any other merchant (w/ similar return policy) as well. The fraud comes from not disclosing at the beginning of the sale that you do not intend to keep the items. Not legal fraud, but you are mis-representing your purposes through silence. 3. I always ask for a gear check from another experienced jumper. I am vigilant about asking for a pin check in the plane if I have been anywhere close to leaning against anything in the plane. Too many possibilities of rubbing against something even when I am careful! Of course, I'm just barely off student status so what do I know? "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  4. This is certainly not the law everywhere. It would be a state law and it certainly is not true in my state. I'd have to start carrying an ID when I go out running, that would suck. Here's a somewhat dated reference that indicates that states might be able to impose such a requirement, I can't really find a resolution to this case in the few minutes I have w/ google here at work. Edited to add: I see that this has largely been addressed already. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  5. Don't you have access through your work to supplemental insurance? That is by far the cheapest way for me to go and has no exclusions. I had to ask about that information. If you just need something for a stop gap measure maybe you should talk to the mortgage people. Often times they offer some sort of "mortgage insurance" usually through an associated vendor. It is usually too much for what you get but it could work on a temporary basis. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  6. At the time the World Series was started America was really the only country that played baseball. It's mostly about the hype, though. See here for history: http://roadsidephotos.sabr.org/baseball/name.htm I really like soccer (association football) and am eager to watch the World Cup this summer but I am definitely in a minority here. It is harder to be a big fan of international sports because the coverage isnt' as good and the times are often inconvenient (games this summer will start very early in the AM) "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  7. What's most offensive to me is the idea that a man can't keep himself from being pushed into committing domestic violence. Men are responsible for their own actions. Saying it happens because they are not respected, etc. is saying that the man can't control his own actions. If a man is not being respected in a relationship, he has many different choices. Domestic violence is not an appropriate one. I am all for mutual respect from both parties. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  8. Businesses (and their campaign contributions) love a plentiful supply of cheap labor. That's why the feds have turned the other cheek. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  9. Dude that has got to be the single DUMBEST statement made on these boards EVER... _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Struck a nerve, eh? What did I say that isn't true? Cheers, Jon You imply that it is okay for a guy to hit his wife if the wife doesn't treat him right. Talk about blaming the victim. Violence is never okay. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  10. I've only got a few less jumps than you. I wouldn't let myself be pushed into something that I'm not ready for. I am nowhere near ready to tackle the coach course. I may not be ready anywhere near 100 jumps, either. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  11. How is speaking English a sign of citizenship? There is no requirement for citizens to learn English. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  12. Toast always lands jelly side down. If you duct tape a piece of toast to a cat does it hover in the air in cosmic indecision? "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  13. Well, in some sense you are right, in that even in a libertarian utopia the parties are dependent on the government to enforce contracts, so even that is artificial in a sense. I'm not entirely against the idea of carbon credits, as it forces corporations (and users) to be responsible for the cost externalities of their mode of power production, rather than foisting it off on general fund revenue from all taxpayers. There is some merit to the idea but let's not pretend that it is an example of capitalism even though it may be more market based and productive than some other forms of regulation and prohibition. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  14. I know about the history of cap and trade regulations. Please don't paint me w/ the Republican brush, it offends me. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  15. The Carbon Credit market would be a market entirely created by and maintained by the governement. At the moment there is absolutely no demand for carbon credits. There will not be demand for carbon credits except that businesses will have to purchase them to avoid other forms of federal regulations and penalties (taxes). Captialism, indeed. 16. why are you wanting to add this? If you are already on a high protein diet then you are just substituting one source of protein for another. The only big benefit to protein shake is to quickly ingest the protein if you need it for muscle repair (like after heavy lifting). 1200 cals is not very many, especially if you are working out much. Doesn't sound like the best diet to me, but there aren't many details. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  17. Flying Spaghetti Monster? "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  18. they didn't even show up today, that was embarrassing. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  19. You should have called the police. They will determine fault. I don't consider $2000 to be minimal damage. By not calling them you have left it up to the whims of the insurance companies. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  20. I'd much rather be jumping, or working out, or reading, or hiking, or just about anything else. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  21. Teachers where I live haven't had a raise in three years and are being laid off this year. They certainly don't "do nothing." Our entire state governement is having unpaid furloughs (i.e. pay cuts) this year. I'm generally a small government guy but I find your remarks unfair. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  22. Having less pirates is the cause of global warming. http://www.seanbonner.com/blog/archives/001857.php There's a chart and everything "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  23. I didn't get a raise last year. Don't think I'm going to get one this year, either. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  24. I thought this post was going to be about a larch, or a man w/ three buttocks. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  25. A friend of mine has been invited to crew for it. Sounds like a fun time to me. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
