I'm spending the afternoon with the kiddo I mentor thru the Big Brother /Big Sisters Org. of Snohomish County. Why? ~H Cause they know, and so do I, The high road is hard to find A detour to your new life, Tell all of your friends goodbye

I purchased it as well. At the time, it was helpful to me. ~But I only had 4 jumps at that time. The DVD covers the very basics on canopy flying, e.g turns, brake turns, flaring, flying the pattern…. The DVD also contains a wing loading chart. Which is a helpful quick glance reference. At the recording scene in the background there is some guy with a weed blower. The noise takes away from the instructions and the Flamingos. ~Hold Cause they know, and so do I, The high road is hard to find A detour to your new life, Tell all of your friends goodbye

Hi Jason! Welcome to the DZ. There are some great people here. Always glad to help out. Where are you at in your progression? Are you doing an AFF? Blue Skies! ~Mike Cause they know, and so do I, The high road is hard to find A detour to your new life, Tell all of your friends goodbye

In my case, the use of the radio was helpful for the first 4 landings. After that, I felt real comfortable flying the pattern and landing. The radio interruptions continued for a while, until I asked not them to stop. Even the one time I landed out, I still landed safe. I understand everyone learns at different paces, so some students may need the radio help for a while. DUDE! that is exactly what I'm thinking. It's funny you recommended that. Great minds think alike I guess. We made reservations for a Powered Hang Glider tour today, only with another outfit. Here is where we are going... http://www.bigskykauai.com/ I (we, the wife and I) can't wait. Looks like a lot of fun, especially when they let us take the controls and fly. Thanks everyone for the great info and the tips. ~Mike Cause they know, and so do I, The high road is hard to find A detour to your new life, Tell all of your friends goodbye

Sup! I’ll be on Kauai, Hawaii in December. I’m thinking this is a MUST JUMP opportunity. Found 1 DZ on Kauai so I shot them an Email. The dude replies the next day, but said they only do Tandems and don’t jump licensed jumpers. What’s up with that? Blue Skies All !!! Tips stopping a nosebleed that happens on way to altitude...
HoldtheIce replied to mdrejhon's topic in Safety and Training
I’ve been having nose bleeds for years. It’s been a chronic problem ever since I was a kid. After a trip to the Emergency Room on Christmas Eve a doctor showed me how to stop the bleeding myself. Apply pressure at the point! Just like the First Aid training we received in school. Your nose has a pressure point as well. It’s an artery located right at the base of where your scull (bone) meets the flexible cartilage in your nose. Press hard and hold your index finger there for a 3 or 4 minutes. It hurts like hell but it will stop the bleeding. If 3 or 4 minutes doesn’t work try again. Unless you are a "bleeder", it will stop. Another technique that works.....if you have access to cold water like a sink or a cooler full of beer. Hold the cold water in your cupped hand and sniff the water into your nose. Do this until no more color is coming back out. The cold water does the trick. Your blood will coagulate as soon as it hits the cold water. Tipping your head back only allows your sinus cavity to fill with blood and that nasty shit run down the back of your throat. Good Luck! Radio at 20....To tell you the truth, I don't know. IMO I'm not learning anything if the spotter on the ground is telling me how to fly my pattern. I asked my instructor about that last weekend, he said when the spotter "feels" I don't need his help anymore. One of my best landings is when my radio somehow got turned off. Another time the shotter on the ground fucked me up because he thought I was going away from him, when in reality I was going a towards him. He told me to turn backwords. I did, lost a bunch of altitude and landed short. I asked him about it later and he said, he thought I was going in the other direction. ~H Cause they know, and so do I, The high road is hard to find A detour to your new life, Tell all of your friends goodbye

GREAT advice all ! Thanks for the quick feedback. I see now that following FMD rules really makes sense. I'll talk to my instructor about downwind landings. Yes, I was paying too much attention to the wind flag and not my PLF. Cause they know, and so do I, The high road is hard to find A detour to your new life, Tell all of your friends goodbye

The first man down was a new student who was jumping a static line. He was flying the pattern the spotter on the radio was telling him too. Cause they know, and so do I, The high road is hard to find A detour to your new life, Tell all of your friends goodbye

Here’s a mistake I’ll not repeat again…. I was on a load with other students last Sunday. I was the last out because I was jumping at a higher altitude. Being the last to land, I was watching the other two students fly the landing pattern. The approach they used was the default to the west landing. As I got down to about 1 K and setting up for my landing pattern, I noticed the wind flag was indicating intermittent wind coming from the east. Now there were three issues that I needed to consider here. The rule at my DZ is the first jumper down sets the pattern. Second thing, at our pre-jump meeting, we were told to fly the default (to the west) landing pattern. And third, the spotter on the ground didn’t call me on the radio and tell me to deviate from my landing pattern. I flew my “down wind” leg to the east, base to the north and final to the west. This pattern put a 5+ mph wind at my back. I came in fast and landed hard. I tried a PFL but I was moving so fast I landed on my butt. My instructor walked over to me while I was stowing my lines, I pointed at the wind flag and said WTF? He said the wind was intermittent out of the east and I caught a gust. Lesson learned? Should I start making better decisions while under my chute and not relying so much on the spotter with the radio? Even thought I was instructed to fly a west final, should I have changed my pattern and landed into the wind? Glad you made it throught this day Bro! With me, each time I fuck up, I learn a little more. If you don't make mistakes and move forward….you are not learning. In an obscure way, I can’t wait to get my first reserve ride behind me. Blue Skies Dude! Hi ! and Welcome. Both you and I have about the same number of jumps. Are you doing an AFF? I started out with a static progression. Got my chute packing passed and out of the way last weekend. Just passed my step-off exits yesterday

Check out the white cell just before the landing. Doesn't it look deformed to you. Like blown out? ~H Cause they know, and so do I, The high road is hard to find A detour to your new life, Tell all of your friends goodbye

The wife and I checked it out this afternoon. There were some funny parts, but not the gut busting, eye tearing funny that I was expecting. It was a cute movie, that’s all. And I didn’t need to see Alec’s fat ass!! Damn, he let himself go. Nasty! Would I see it again or purchase the movie for home viewing……No Would I recommend the movie to friends…….No. I’d tell them to wait until it comes out on netflecks and save the coin. ~Hold Cause they know, and so do I, The high road is hard to find A detour to your new life, Tell all of your friends goodbye

Thanks for the tip Bro! I really need a good laugh about now. Maybe I'll go see it tomorrow afternoon after my jump (weather pending) ~Hold Cause they know, and so do I, The high road is hard to find A detour to your new life, Tell all of your friends goodbye

Dude, It’s obvious you are not a priority in your wife’s life. If you can’t see this, you are in denial. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s only a matter of time. Time to start looking out for yourself and thinking about your options. No you are not being selfish. A marriage is a partnership and both parties are there for each other. You are being bitch slapped. Be strong and grow a sack. You state….she wants to go spend time with her family and friends?? Who is this friend she wants to spend more time with then you? Wake Up!!! Hi Garrett, Congratulations on the A Bro! Addictive isn’t it? I’m working through my progression myself. It rains a lot here in the Seattle area, so I’m not going as fast as I’d like. Get’n in about a jump a month. Competing with a DZ that jumps only 3 days a week, other students, and bad weather. Frustrating at times. Anyway, welcome to the Dropzone. People here are really cool and very helpful. Don’t be hesitant to ask questions and seek advice. Also if you can, spend some time in a wind tunnel. Sure helped me. Blue Skies Dude! Again Congrats ~Hold Cause they know, and so do I, The high road is hard to find A detour to your new life, Tell all of your friends goodbye

Same thing here. I have a Dell 1705. Got an aftermarket battery about a year ago. Same error...Unknown Device installed. I had to send the aftermarket battery back and purchase a bettery from Dell. Of course the Dell battery costed 3 times as much. They have us all by the short hairs!! Good luck Cause they know, and so do I, The high road is hard to find A detour to your new life, Tell all of your friends goodbye
