New to skydiving, just need some info
HoldtheIce replied to adaugherty91's topic in Introductions and Greets
ADAM....Don't do it!! Skydiving will ruin your life. You will spend every cognizant minute thinking about it. You will dream about it. You’ll want to suspend all your old hobbies and activities. You will not want to hang out with your non-skydiving friends. You will spend all of your money on skydiving equipment. You will become grumpy and depressed when you can’t jump. You will find yourself watching the sky all of the time. You will start analyzing the cloud cover and weather systems. You will get a new tatoo. And you will realize the true meaning of the word….DOOR! Have fun and welcome to in insanity!! As some of you know may know I am new at this great sport. I just got my A license in September. I went down to the DZ today. After I went into town to the local watering hole where all of the friends and family were at, remembering Our 10. I just didn’t know how to feel. Not really knowing any of the wonderful people effected by the tragic accident that changed so many lives 3 years ago this day. I felt a sense of sadness and loneliness for those lost and for those who are left empty and unfulfilled. At the same time I felt a connection with everyone. The connection being skydiving. It is a sad day for me. And I just need to express my heartfelt condolences to all of you who suffered this awful event. GOD speed to you all and Blue Skies Brothers and Sisters! Mikey C. It’s mostly just sensory overload making you “think” you can’t breath. Just relax, close your mouth and breath normally. After a few more jumps you’ll be so relaxed you’ll not even “think” you are not breathing. Have fun and Welcome to the Sport! I know....took me 40 plus jumps to get it. But at lease I did. In my progression, I had to re-do my step exit 10 times. Then once cleared for solo....I got in as many jumps as I could. Good Luch with your progression. Cause they know, and so do I, The high road is hard to find A detour to your new life, Tell all of your friends goodbye

I jumped my new suit yesterday with the booties.....they were the sh_t!! WOW what a dif! Thanks for all the help! ~H Cause they know, and so do I, The high road is hard to find A detour to your new life, Tell all of your friends goodbye

To preserve the lifespan of the booties I would recommend removing them under canopy after you deploy, check for traffic, stow slider, unstow brakes etc. Otherwise landing on them can easily tear them, in addition to walking around in them. Great advice! Thanks! Cause they know, and so do I, The high road is hard to find A detour to your new life, Tell all of your friends goodbye

Blue Skies All. I should be out jumping on a great day like today, however I have a cold and I'm grounded until I can get my ears to clear up. When everyone states Bootie input, I'm not clear on what that is. The direction of the input, I mean. Is this leg movement straight back, up/down or to the sides (out). Say if I want to execute a leg turn with booties, I drop a knee a little, right? Just like a normal leg turn. What would happen if (keeping my legs equal) I turn a foot out some using my ankle? Are booties intended more for foot input rather then leg input? Thanks again for all of the replies! ~H Cause they know, and so do I, The high road is hard to find A detour to your new life, Tell all of your friends goodbye

Hi All, I just purchased a Tony Suit with Booties. I’ve never jumped a suit with booties before, but I do see myself concentrating on RW work mostly once I get my A. Most of the people I see flying belly down have booties. So that’s why I got the suit. What are the Booties for? How do I use them? Thanks and Blue Skies! ~H Cause they know, and so do I, The high road is hard to find A detour to your new life, Tell all of your friends goodbye

I can't wait! 14 more jumps and my opinion will count for something and I may have something to offer other divers. By the way, I don’t recommend cleaning the bathrooms or taking out the trash. That’ll just create hard feelings from those who are paid to do that job. Sanitary Engineers need employment too. Hi Chuck! I met you a few weeks ago at the DZ. Sounds like you are on your way doing the right things. I’m in the same boat as you are, a student working to get an A. That separation you see between you and licensed divers will subside in time. They just need to get to know you. Some experienced divers are glad to help and others are not so. It’s just personality differences. That’s all. Talk to Michael at the DZ. If you don’t know him, ask who he is. He’s awesome and always glad to help, give advise, encouragement, and never too busy to do gear checks for solo students. Another thing you could do…if you are not on a jump run, push and pull the boarding ladder to and from the Caravan for the other jumpers. They will see you there and also see you are willing to help out. The rest will fall into place. See you at the DZ sometime! Blue Skies Bro! ~Mike Cause they know, and so do I, The high road is hard to find A detour to your new life, Tell all of your friends goodbye

New Member & Need tips on purchasing gear.
HoldtheIce replied to etmz7's topic in Introductions and Greets
On purchasing rigs, I recommend you getting your A first and then jump a few friends sports rigs. Right now, I'd guess you are still jumping student rigs with light wing loads. Don't jump right into purchasing a chute. Fly a few first and decide what type of performance you want. If you get into the click that does a lot of swooping and you want to learn that part of the sport, if you buy now, you may be stuck with something that will not sute your desires. Go a head and get your helmet, goggles, altimeter, gloves, Maybe even a suit. There again, will you be doing mostly RW jumps or will you be free flying? You will need different suits just for that. Just get the basic stuff now, Bro. The rest will come in time. Blue Skies! ~H Cause they know, and so do I, The high road is hard to find A detour to your new life, Tell all of your friends goodbye -
Greetings Bro! Yes, it gets a whole lot better. The nausea will go away in time. It's just your body trying to process all of these new feelings. I call it the 3 Ps...piss, poop, or puke. It's natural. I still get the first 2 real bad before my first jump of the day. After that everything is cool. Just yesterday, I heard one of the other new jumpers talking at the DZ. On the way in He had to stop the car twice to puke on the side of the road. I started last summer at the age of 47. I wish I would of started sooner, but me income wouldn't allow it. Just wait until you get some air time with AFF. Totally dif! Blue Skies and Welcome to the obsession! ~H Cause they know, and so do I, The high road is hard to find A detour to your new life, Tell all of your friends goodbye
