  1. Make the sport entirely 100% safe, guaranteed, and "antiseptic" ...and a lot of us would simply go away, and not even bother doing it anymore IMHO. Not a deathwish, more a life / challenge wish. Obviously, there is no way we can 100% ever (that I can conceive) acomplish this. I do not see Ron's points regarding AAD DEPENDENCY as either irrational, or contradictory to (or in conflict with) advocating increased safety at all. From where do you correlate that aspersion, Chris? edited to correct spelling only... (I stand by my content ) coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  2. Or that you can hum it low, and still pitch your main without worry of what that little device may or may not be thinking/further DOING potentially at the same time! coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  3. Has anyone who REGULARLY does this, had/found any concerns over line-burn to any of the canopy's skin? Line burn has been relayed to me as the primary concern with utilizing this pack method, due to the way the canopy keeps pressure upon the lines as it unrolls/is pulled out of the d-bag. Supposedly S-folds do not present the same consistent contact/pressure. Looking for actual experience / input here. Although I like the way my canopy opens, and the ease of the pack job utilizing the psycho-pack, I don't regularly do it for just this reason. Any hands-on experience/observations from anyone who REGULARLY psycho-packs? THANKS! -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  4. Drop testing of pre-mass-manufacture prototypes, then type certifying. I don't have the exact spec's either, but yes, something like this, so long as loaded WITHIN PLACARDED AND SPECIFIED RANGE / LIMITS! Bottom line is that this jumper is outside of his limits! Don't putz with your last chance like this, kid. You may never need it, but you also never know! ...get yourself an appropriately sized reserve for your situation (and within recommended specs). Your earlier stated concerns about potentially compromising "opening time" otherwise (within spec) are just NOT VALID. coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  5. The other piece of the equation though that you miss considering with this is opening separation. Actually, with (and so long as) proper separation is also acheived, there is absolutely no conflict here with this at all, and that recommendation is indeed fully correct. coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  6. For his experience level, his reserve is too small. As long as he doesn't need it I guess though, he will be okay, right? A few years back, upon repack cycle & dumping my reserve out on the ground, we discovered that my previous rigger had packed & closed my rig in such a way as to potentially even have had (if it was used) a TOTAL MALFUNCTION! ---Good thing I never needed it!! Entirely different matter here; however, the moral of my story is that I am now, personally, 100% sure of my reserve (at least it's condition) and my personal "confidence level" in it, period. If you are unsure, especially at this stage of the game for YOU Mike of your abilities and capabilities under a 150 -regardless if even being marginally within technicalities of "spec" (as you apparently are), you need to get a larger reserve. Maximum Load refers to MAXIMUM weight under which the canopy should not sustain damage under ONLY! Sure, chances are everything would be "okay", but clearly you are having yourself some doubts about this, and bottom line is you do not need to be in a position to have those types of second thoughts if and when the situation where you potentially might need it arises! Graeme is correct about this ...speak to your CCI directly about this, and seriously consider PROPERLY sizing your reserve to YOU so as to be within BOTH the maximum recommended weight AND your own comfort/experience level. You may want to do this before your very next jump too. ...You NEVER know when you might NEED it, and you DON'T need this in the back of your mind should you look up to see your main for some reason going all to shit on you! Hesitation can (and has) kill(ed) in this sport. My .02 Blue Skies, and safe jumps! -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  7. Recover quickly and fully my brother! ...I'd send you a pic of my boobies (as solicited ), but I realy don't think that would help you much In all seriousness, best and thoughts being sent your way that you heal fast & return to join us in FF very soon. 8. I think what he is stating is the interpretive differentiation (or maybe even outright definition ...but I'm not running off to the dictionary or anything) between pillow style and handle type. If you have a handle (like a D-ring for instance), I suppose it implies in of itself that you can NOT therefore have a "pillow". By definition they are mutually exclusive. You either have one or the other. That would be a neat trick now though! If either of you do get one of these, please let me know how it all works out! 9. Or maybe just plain LUCK otherwise has been at play here then! coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  10. Is there any "secret" to doing this, or "hidden signs" one should look for when inspecting their risers for wear/considering possible replacement? I have always been fairly diligent in every 30 days or so, pulling & cleaning/lubing my cut-away cables, while then checking my risers (including manipulating the ring attachment points to avert a "set" taking) and really -even after @650 jumps on the same (mini) riser set, see no VISIBLE signs of excess wear, or anything that I would otherwise be concerned with at all. However, in some recent threads, several references have been made to 'REQUIRING' that you change your risers after 500 jumps. Just wondering if there are any particular signs I should look for? If I see absolutely NO WEAR (or next to none anyway) ANYWHERE within the riser system, do I still need to replace them/be concerned at 650+/- jumps on 'em? Are there stresses or wear perhaps that is not otherwise visible then, or easily indicated that I should worry about? I was hoping/looking to "jump hard" this upcoming weekend, and can't get my hands on a new set of risers for my rig now probably until sometime next week. ...Maybe y'all will be reading about me in the incidents forum then come next Tuesday? coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  11. I just love it when I pop in after a week or so off (of the damn internet that is, and ON instead in REAL LIFE! ) ...and I see my children have made nice Makes ME feel all warm & fuzzy inside too. Now those soft pillow reserve handles boy ...THAT is what is really gonna kill ya. --DOH! coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  12. I've pro-packed my Safire 1 for over 650 jumps now with absolutely no concern. The only reason this method is recommended is that the founder of the manufacturer created this method, and it is therefore his own (and adopted by the company) personal PREFERENCE. Youz jumps it, youz pack it ANY WAY YOU WANT! (including considering psycho-pack) There are proponents, and opponents to either method. My .02 -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  13. The next shot really would have said it all... However, I think you can probably see this one coming coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  14. Why is it you feel you will learn "more effectively" at 1.35-1.4 vs. your current 1.23?? If you really feel this way, do like me, and instead of getting a new canopy, simply rather gain 25-30 lbs real quick. That will do the trick! coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  15. And then if it is still an issue (with comfortability) with YOU, you always have the option of simply NOT getting in the airplane under those circumstances yourself personally, in the first place. Otherwise (presumably) you have a long life in front of you yet (and another day) to come out 'n jump! coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  16. You should know yourself by now Beav, that I've never been one to shy away from a good debate. However, I will choose my terminology when drawing sabers very carefully. Accusing the prof of "bad logic"? ...That just aint a phrase you'll ever see me use in that exchange scenario, that's for sure Watching now from the sidelines.... -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  17. Uh-oh. ...He's gonna open up a "classical logic" debate with the prof. One Scrumpot... ducking... bobbing and weaving... exiting.... stage left! ...Stage right evennnnn Prof. how come you don't allow PM's my man? Blues all, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  18. Does that level of inter-DZ cooperation still really exist anywhere TODAY though? ...I'd venture to guess (and if I'm wrong, that's fine ...remember this is only a GUESS ) that a jumper "grounded" at Perris today, can probably just hit the I-10 (or whatever it is), pull up in 'Snore @ 30 minutes later & he/she's on the next load. Please do tell me that scenario is wrong though. Blues, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  19. You are NOT serious about this, are you??? coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  20. And this is a shame. Here.... resurected from another post of mine made months ago. ...This one as it relates to someone suffering a very serious injury as a result of his not liking to be "grounded", and in fact going elsewhere, JUST BECAUSE HE "COULD"... Apologies for the lengthiness of this post, but... ------- Used to be when you were grounded at a DZ for doing something stupid (low-pulling for instance), you sat out that requisite time (still came to the DZ however), and you "took your lumps". How many of us accept that now?? No sir, now adays too many of us say "screw that DZO, I'm gonna go down the street & jump the competitors DZ & I'll do whatever I want"! Adam, you have touched upon it here, and unfortunately it all may simply just be a bi-product of the "mainstreaming" & further competitive (between DZ's) nature that this sport has recently evolved to. Many of these evolutions have been positive, I'm not bashing that, but many also have not. If Ken & Barbie wanna come out and skydive, so be it. What these Ken's & Barbie's of todays world don't seem to know, respect &/or appreciate however, is that these EXPERIENCES (outside of the "instant gratification" world) really DO & can work out to be in THEIR benefit ---for the long haul. The result of being grounded for a few days, or a week (or even a month ...but I won't get into that! ) is that sure, initially you don't agree with it. You may even vociferously "gripe". But you continue to hang with your buds around the DZ campfire anyway & you inevitably end up talking about it & you LEARN from it. Nobody seems to have that level of patience anymore. EVERYBODY is "right" and justified somehow from their own perspective, no matter what they have done. They WON'T listen, and "screw everybody else!" ---Even the DZO could be wrong in some instances too. If that were the case, a concensus of support would swell around that campfire & then yup ---miracle of miracles even THEY might learn by this! Things would have a natural way of working themselves out that way. And you would have a symbiotic respect between even competing DZO's. Do something stupid, flip-off the DZO & go down the street to jump? ...Would never happen. For better or worse my friend, skydiving has become too much of a mainstream BUSINESS, and unfortunately some of those intrinsic core values you seem to be grasping for also seem somehow in the "modern era" as a result, to have been lost. ------- coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  21. This also depends on precisely what you mean by "up high" too. If you are talking "normal" opening altitude (or higher, because you've pulled high due to realizing you were "off"); then that can be deceiving as well, if you do not re-adjust based upon your senses as you continue to descend. Winds at 3k can be a full 180' OFF what they are at ground level for various reasons. The best way to tell is still visual cue's coming from GROUND LEVEL at the closest spot to your intended landing area, regardless. Tree leaves, smoke from a chimney, dust, crops swaying, etc. I would only use the sun's relative positioning EXCLUSIVELY as a very last-ditch "SWAG" as I think DiverDriver had called it. Chances are, that if you PAY ATTENTION, you can find OTHER more reliable method's than this (again) LAST RESORT possible method. Blue Skies, and safe landings! -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  22. I'm surprised no one has suggested this to you yet. ...Watch a video of a ski jumper? ... How about video of YOURSELF! Get someone who you KNOW is a proficient tracker or tracker/tracking dive organizer to jump with you & provide VIDEO. Then debrief that & go back up & DO IT AGAIN! That's the best way to ACCURATELY determine your deficiencies/potential corrections to those. ...Not on HERE where we can't see you 1st hand. Hooknswoop gives you a pretty comprehensive write-up on most of the facets of tracking, however WITHOUT SEEING YOU anything really, is just "guesswork" in it's applicability. Good luck, and Blue Skies! -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  23. I would guess it can depend from DZ to DZ. Dropzones are private enterprises (for the most part -aside from "clubs") after all! Generally... DZO (or DZO's wife depending on how you look at that ) DZM (manager) Then from there "rank & file employees" as the DZO so designates. Manifest Bitch at most DZ's is who REALLY runs the place /makes the DZ run though! Does this help you any? Blue Skies, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  24. C'mon Mike... I know you can do it! After all, you yourself state that you don't jump with an RSL either! I've never seen 2 people, who intrinsically have the SAME OPINION bicker about it so much I'm gonna sound like that Treetop person on that other platform now with this, but: Most Excellent Entertainment indeed! You BOTH actually imparted some informative "wisdom" if you-all can simply just climb on down off of those high-horses of what really is just basic semantics! And who was it who "corrected" Ron's spelling of because? ---Now THAT one ...THAT was a good one!!! Blue Skies guys! -Grant Edited to correct name reference error -DOH! ---Too many threads & PM's going on all at one time. Iv'e got to slow down here! coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  25. Glad to see us all "getting along" again now! I can almost feel the love... LOL ...I crack myself up! coitus non circum - Moab Stone
