  1. If you counted 3 seconds as you have described it, you were well out of any prop-blast easily for certain, so that is not it. At a true 3 seconds or quicker, you were not up to full terminal either - which is a part of what I was wondering. As such, your canopy's opening characteristics will probably be much more suseptable and sensitive to packing method & body position. Where you are pretty adamant about ruling out body position, I am wondering whether you know (or cna find out) if your packer then (where it was not packed by you) rolled the nose? Full roll? Split roll? etc. When I have had either students or low-timers planning their own pack jobs combined with (true) hop-n-pops, I usually make sure they are aware that their opennings may seem to take longer, AND be subject to turning off heading during a slowed deployment, based on their anticipation/exaggerated weight shift. Just me, but I also advise them to NOT roll the nose (or even "stuff"), if this is something they otherwise normally do. Because again, at a less than terminal opening, and/or one where the relative wind may be other than vertical (true clear-n-pull), unless they are really accustomed to "flying out" their openings (which at only 74 jumps, you probably are not) - packing (rolling the nose unevenly especially) and even body position and weight in the harness distribution that your observing boyfriend could not see MAY have contributed to the nature of this deployment. Maybe others out there with greater actual canopy characteristics (and deployment physics) knowledge can expand (or debunk) upon that. But this is what I was thinking anyway. Hope it's made some sense, and is of some further help. Blues, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  2. 2 boys, 18 and 14. Both have pretty grown up on the DZ, in fact. coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  3. What are you doing with your packing method, and what is your main? I am just a bit curious about this aspect and what caused your mal, and the main to exit the bag" spinning" in the 1st place. Did you do a true "hop-n-pop" (clear and pull with minimal delay) which had you sub-terminal on deployment, or did you take a 6 or more second delay before deployment? Type of canopy and packing method in combination with answers to the above would also be helpful I think, in perhaps helping you avoid the malfunction situation itself too maybe, in the 1st place. At least you don't have to worry IF you will ever react right, and perform your EP's in a stressful situation! Good on you for your clarity of thought and decision-making capabilities and EXPERIENCE (abilities to "perform" exhibited) in these situations! I'm sure this gives you a lot of confidence. Now let's see if there's perhaps even anything more that can be learned too, to help you maybe even AVOID the situations from occuring that put you into them - so you won't be determined to otherwise just repeat them, whatever they may be. So if you don't mind, answering the questions above as well? Thanks! and... BLUE SKIES! -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  4. Agreed. You have just as much surface area "into the wind" with your arms either straight out at your sides, or straight out in front of you. Neither is as effective IMHO once you have 1st "dialed in your range" with a proper mantis position - as instead simply using your de-arch (body position) and getting your elbows OUT at 180' from each other (flat) and your hands/palms BIG and "pushing down" in front of you. If you can correct your fall-rate and match BEFORE you go too low, it is all about staying AHEAD of the game. The turning 90' (body position) technique, and head-down, to-the-side - - - is only good once you have FALLEN OUT, entirely. Best advice... Just don't "go there" in the 1st place! Just another .02 Hope it helps. Blues Skies, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  5. P.S. ... Did not the 3-point 30-way executed from 9800ft. get categorized as a record? I had thought that it did. In any case GREAT EVENT still!! And not enough kudo's could possibly be bestowed upon the organizers, hosting DZ, and captains especially. Thank you again Jim, for an absolutley fantastically put together event! 6. Hey Jim - Thanks for a GREAT event!! It was an honor and a pleasure to be a particpant with such a GREAT GROUP, and I look forward to coming back out in the future as well. Blue Skies, and GO POPS! -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  7. Company Name: Fun4Singles.com: Tel: 888-371-4386; URL: www.fun4singles.com; Email: christopher@funforsingles.com ----------------- Why doesn't somebody just go right to the source here, and see about possibly clearing this up? Even more info.... About FunForSingles Singles Events (www.fun4singles.com/about.php) Published on: 3/26/2008 Christopher Malone, the founder and president of FunForSingles, purchased a small, local singles club in Denver, Colorado. The idea behind the club was to give Single folks a way to meet without having to endure the bar scene or having to go to the extreme of joining a dating service. Quickly, the organization grew from a couple hundred members to nearly 2,000 local members! By developing a systematic way to plan events and bring people together, he quickly realized that all fun, quality Single men and women should have a way to enjoy this terrific concept. That's when Christopher fine tuned the system that has now provided Single men and women a great alternative to the clubs and bars and dating services - for over seven years! There are several other organizations around the country with a similar concept. However, members must pay anywhere from $1500 to over $3000 to join - and get marginal results! Christopher used his experience in having planned hundreds of events resulting in thousands of new friendships and relationships, created a system where members can join affordably and focus on having a great time while making exciting new connections. Having worked previously in the dating service industry, Christopher fully understood what the members wanted from this new concept along with their goals for joining. ... 9. Wendy is STILL who I want to be when I grow up! And that's all I'll say about this one, as I go back to my now long time LURKING, and no longer posting in this silly, childish (for the most part, with sadly rarer and rarer exception it seems) place. Wonder too if Zing still "lurks"? Heard he actually got kicked off. Blue skies friends, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  10. I will second, and attest to this post wholeheartedly! For those of you who have not been around for awhile, this is not the 1st time Jan has endured the slings and arrows, and I am sure it will no doubt not be her last. She is true to her convictions, but even more importantly - she is true to US. DSE has stated it perfectly in the post that I am replying to, so no need for me to repeat that here. Something to think about, when you think of who - when it comes time to vote, you would like to represent YOU. She will always LISTEN, and will consider your point of view, and has always and OPENLY provided to all I have ever witnessed - at least an "audience". And with such matters, isn't that what it is all about? You can agree or disagree with her (always stated, never obfuscated) positions - and I have, as should be, in the past done both. But with Jan, I have always felt that I have been HEARD. Can you say that for all the BOD members currently sitting, and elected by us? Jan is one of the most genuine, and genuinely selfless persons I know of, in how she approaches the prosecution of her DUTIES, and service to her constituents and members of this sport. I have seen this 1st hand. Just another "testament" to add here, I suppose. FWIW. Jan - I am sorry that I was not able to make it down to FL on the 8th in person to support you. Please, as you always have, and for our BENEFIT and behalf's if you would: Carry on! Blue Skies, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  11. Get ahold of Jr, to ask for Sr.? Or can perhaps Jr just help out with the plans/specs? Thanks Gary - I was/am looking for Sr. though. Or at least I think I am. ....If that makes sense! coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  12. If anyone has Van's current contact info, would you mind PM'ing it to me? Towards the end of last season we were talking between us for the spec's of his Otter "bench-seating" configuration. Now that Cal City has closed I'm afraid I don't know how to contact him any longer to follow-up. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Blue Skies! -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  13. Well, when you realize how prolific I used to be - that brief spate again in 2/2007-4/2007 was even in of itself, just a brief anomaly. Don't egg me on, grasshopper! coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  14. Good point(s). Anyone here remember Don Jardine, and any of his previous "idea's" / quest? Sheesh - I've now gone and posted TWO whole posts here, in what... 2-3 years? Neither of them with either bolds or underlines though. Hey Billvon... whaddaya think about THAT? (oops, broke my streak ) -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  15. 1. How many of you have ever been to any BOD, S&TA, Gen Membership, DZO, or group membership meeting held by the USPA? Been to several 2. Have you read the lawsuit that was brought against the USPA by Skyride? No 3. Have you ever contacted your RD for any reason? Yes 4. Do you even vote in the USPA elections? Yes ----------------------- Post on DZ.com? - Nope. Not any more. Haven't probably in @ several seasons now. Jan - If you are lurking, you have my support. Drop a dime if there is anything at all I can possibly do. Blues, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  16. Thank YOU Jen, and to everyone at the 'Burg! We truly did enjoy AND APPRECIATE the hospitality. Even though you did call my gear a franken-rig! I've tacked-down those slinks now too, I promise. You guys rock!
  17. Apparently then, you just aint been around! (partially a play-on words JOKE here people, before anyone gets too all up-in-arms or anything) Blues, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  18. Simple roll-on typical luggage bag available almost anywhere. Just an example HERE Blue Skies! -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  19. A ditter does NOTHING to make you "aware"! Although it could "wake you up" out of that false sense of "awareness" it seems is being promulgated herein. Not ranking on you here. ...Really. Just take a moment to THINK though about this. Ever heard of a pavlovian response? At only 85 (+/-) dives, what do you think "learning" by the "ditter method" will create in you? Just think about it. Blue Skies, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  20. How in the world did you go supposedly replying to me, yet "quote" someone ELSE altogether, entirely? coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  21. Personally, I don't blame her. She is right! If you are any sort of decent boyfriend she thought before hand that she had any future with, she is literally watching that 'fly away" with every load you are now getting on. Seriously. Very soon it will be consuming AT LEAST 1/2 of your total disposable income, and similar amounts of your disposable leisure time. She has something there, LEGITIMATE to fear! Whuffo significant others and "new" skydivers unfortunately in my observational experience, very rarely, very well "mix", - let alone LAST. You might be needing to make a very tough decision - either way, pretty soon. Good luck! Blues, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  22. Is this incident the 1st time, in your opinion, or in even your experience with Danny then, or that you have ever witnessed him (or not) cutting a 270 or otherwise high-perf landing through a crowd? coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  23. Yeah, whew.... You really skeered me there and had me going for a second! Good luck with soon starting your skydiving life with us too! ....Hope you make it! MAYBE even past 150 or so jumps too, if yer "lucky"! Blues, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  24. Ditto to what he said..... coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  25. Just don't ask Van Pray at Cal City for a jumprun course correction out of the 206 when you are "splitting the difference" between the uppers and lowers, and you are getting "pushed" .2, .3, .4, .... .5 laterally off course of center, to "work" the spot. Actually differences in upper winds versus ground winds is QUITE COMMON! If unsure, ask your jump pilot for the winds aloft report they get from flight services. You might just be surprised! coitus non circum - Moab Stone
