Either Orange (jumptown), CPC - Connecticut Parachutists or Pepperell would be just fine. Pepperell uses IIRC, a "tandem progression method" I believe, and is the only one in that group however, that will not start you off, with either AFF or static line - that I think still, both CPC & Orange still offer. Jumptown is also one of my favorite places to visit in the area, and is the nations oldest dropzone. CPC jumps year round. Whichever one you decide - WELCOME to the skies!! I too once went to a DZ, just to give it a try, to "scratch off my list" of things to do at least once, so to speak - - - about 15 years ago!! Plan on the next better half of your life, and half of your income to now go towards skydiving, if you've now caught the bug, anywhere even near what I did. Good luck - BLUE SKIES! -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone

Because they are under tension from the canopy tail deflection, it is possible for the toggles to whip around the risers, and/or other lines of the rear-riser line group if released quickly, or "DROPPED". It is generally therefore, probably not a good idea to just let them (either, or both - same time or individually) just fly out of your hands, from a deep brakes configuration. Letting them go while already "full flight" and, already resting/restrained against the steering-line guidering generally though will not cause you any problems. coitus non circum - Moab Stone

Re: [crutch] Fatality - Delphi, IN - 3 - August 2008

Wow - so that's all there is to it, huh? Great to see you've got your sh** so thoroughly all thought out there, and apparenlty squared away. Gee, and thanks for the slap-down perspective put on someone only trying to make people THINK. But why do that (THINK), where with one sentence (well maybe 2) YOU can apparenlty come in here, and just straighten us ALL right out? Good for YOU! Can I come to you now for my next set of advice too? Please? Seems you've got it all down pat. Like the line from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid: "You just keep thinking there, Butch - that's what your good at!" coitus non circum - Moab Stone -
where can I jump with the best scenery around PA/NJ/MD?

Take a look through the myriad of pictures on our website at Skydive Delmarva. - Don't just look at the "stock" pictures - but the "Around the Dropzone" sections perhaps in particular as well. Those shots (both in the sky and on the ground) are taken by BOTH staff and just us regular "fun jumpers" - of in the air jumps, as well as apres-jump activities, gatherings, and yes - antics! Delmarva Main Homepage The "Stock" Location Description Page Photo Gallery Around The DZ * Pictures updated constantly! There are several great dropzones to visit in the region. If you've just moved here, don't just "pick" one (especially based off of solely who replies to you in an internet forum - including ME! ) -Take your time, get around to a few of 'em, CHECK EM OUT FOR YOURSELF and decide. If you are ever coming out to Delmarva though, feel free to drop me a line, and we'll be happy to acclimate you right in, and make you feel right at "home"! Welcome to the East Coast. Hopefully you find it a positive relocation for you!! -
Important to note that this fee is ONLY FOR THE CATFISH/SHRIMP & CRAB FEAST. There is absolutely no "event" registration excess fee or cost whatsoever! Load organizing for all experience levels will also be provided by RWConcepts at absolutely NO CHARGE as well. Shaping up to be quite an event! Come one come all! We'll keep a spot at the bonfire for ya! coitus non circum - Moab Stone

Come on up to Delmarva sometime/anytime - and we'll take good care of you too! After all, believe it or not, "migration season" is almost upon us already AGAIN! We may not be a "resort" (although some have called us "paradise" ) - but you'll also be hard-pressed to find any place more welcoming and open and inviting to it's up-jumper walk-on's. coitus non circum - Moab Stone

And if it's not even strapped () - may even scramble somebody ELSE'S eggs as well, when it becomes a PROJECTILE under such scenario! Seconded - "Lids ON" for T/O and landing! coitus non circum - Moab Stone

Additional Jump Aircraft for Skydive Spaceland
Scrumpot replied to gemini's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Ha! LOL ...Somehow looking at interior pictures of an Otter with actual passenger seats in 'em just don't look "right"!! Like, totally alien/strange! Nice looking new A/C there Jim - Congrats on the new acquisitions!! In that 3rd picture there, the way the RJ is parked behind it in the background, at 1st it looked like just an extension to your Otter's tail, with a couple of GE Full-on Turbofans added to 'em. Couldn't help but double-take on that one, and catch myself saying "schweeet", even outloud! Again - Congrats on the new acquisitions, and Kudo's to a DZ that really is "JUMPERS 1st"! And so which quota category is it here Chris, more precisely, you are insinuating that Skymama fits into? - Lookout! coitus non circum - Moab Stone -
Hey Jim! ...Glad to see you're still around!! - Wow! Many of us who came from the old "wreck-dot" had the propensity it seemed to tick folks off in here. I know myself as well, took quite a while to become "acclimated" for sure. But as one survived, and the other passed on, well... I'm not telling you anything here either. Ahh, yes... Nostalgia. It just aint what it used to be! -Grant Member FKA "Orange Splat" Wreck-dot, and Sangiro's Synergy coitus non circum - Moab Stone

What the other poster in the other thread was referring to was the "traditional" (apparently at their DZ) "giving of knuckles" (like others do a high-five, or handshake/point, but instead with knocking knuckles together between them), and not any sort of "signal". I think what was being implied, was that the other jumper was not "responsive" several times to the overture. Whether that means he fealt the other jumper was fixated on his task (the upcoming H&P) or what, you'd have to go back and ask the Original Poster on that one. FWIW. coitus non circum - Moab Stone

Sniff, sniff... All the way from little "Sangiro's Synergy" (back in the day)... Some of us remember. Hopefully, none of us will have to mourn. Sounds like you've done your best though, to remain true to your convictions my friend, which some of us are witness to now for YEARS. Even in this - the event of your "selling out". Best of wishes and regards to you, as always, and for what you have done, and brought to us here - that so many have probably even just taken "for granted". Know though too, that some of us have "recognized", and we pay our tributes, and our "props". BLUE SKIES! -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone

Not to be rude, but... 1 yr in the sport, 257 jumps and a C license - you SHOULD know for yourself the difference, clearly, between a bag-lock and line twists. Or even a hard-opening (bag "strip" or not) and a bag LOCK. Please people, let's not gloss this over. BPilk - please... get with your instructors and do whatever you need to, to LEARN this (very basic) stuff! This SCARES ME, that someone with this many jumps, and apparent licensing status - can apparently NOT know it. Seriously. Sorry, but it makes me wonder (and have concern) for your safety participating in this AS IS otherwise, over all. Again - really - not trying to be rude. Only trying to HELP! Does anyone else in here reading this feel this way, or is it just me? Blue Skies, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone

COMPLACENCY, URGENCY, & A MIS-ROUTED RSL
Scrumpot replied to GLIDEANGLE's topic in Safety and Training
So long as the middle ring does not jam, hang up on it, and/or not clear from the RSL material shrinking the circumfrance of the large ring by being routed as it is, inside of it. coitus non circum - Moab Stone -

Your canopy choices and downsize history
Scrumpot replied to frost's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I'll attest to that! Although I've only known Dave from these boards (Sorry we missed each other when I was down in TX for the POPS event last week, Dave - although I did ask Wendy to give you a hardy Scrumpot hello) - you can believe in whence he speaks!! P.S. Dave - I still jump "only" a 170 (primarilly), and still find it amazing how many "punks" I can "outswoop" with it - as almost no-one it seems anymore, has the patience and dedication to much more fully learn, and TRULY PILOT their present canopies, before just "downsizing" as their primary method to gain "speed", and supposed swoop. Glad to hear/see that you have now (even if in only hindsight) yourself seemed to learn this - and more importantly, are imparting that WISDOM now onto others! Like Wendy - I find myself now recently saying about you, and some of your posts in here too, that is what I wanna be when I "grow up". Although I doubt I ever will! Thought I'd take this opportunity to say "hello". Blues, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone -
Oh yeah, just another quick "PS" to this... I was aware that POPS PREVIOUSLY did not have any recognition of a Sequential Category. However, wasn't that just recently changed, or added? Wasn't this too, what the February Eloy, AZ event was all about? To get recognized, establish, then set the 1st recognized POPS Bigway Sequential WR? This is at least in part, what I had thought! Because Eloy POPS in Feb was unable to successfully turn a pre-declared sequential jump - the record then, there was not set. My understanding though is that here in TX, with what we JUST did however - HAS now done this. Because there was no officially recognized record category for this previously, does not mean that there is not one now though, right? Again, at least it was my understanding that this is in part what we were there (just this past Feb in Eloy, and now last weekend in TX) to do. To establish, then set - and have recognized this new record category. I know too, that this is what all who were on that jump, and the 2 separate teams out of the 3 T/O's of that flight-load who pre-declared then attempted it, were certainly going for! FWIW. Billy - Have you looked into THIS place? I too, was facing surgery just a few months ago. I was VERY IMPRESSED by this group, and their INTEGRITY by actually providing me with options and a SOLUTION that turned out to be completely NON-SURGICAL, and earned them no $$. How often do you find a place like that? Thought I would pass this along, as if you are considering back surgery, IMHO - they are worth at the very least - a consideration/consult. Hope this helps. Yeah, but did you do yours from under 10k AGL? Oh well. Your date conflicts with Relative Work (family) obligations of the other kind, that I can not get out of, I'm afraid. Maybe see you in October though John. Good luck with your attempts in July! GO GET 'EM!!!
