  1. Oh, don't get me wrong - with FRIENDS, absolutely I can (and do!) do that too. However, when a spouse throws down that "make a choice" ultimatum - well, then, now you already know what my choice when that happened was. coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  2. I had a whuffo wife once, who "forbade" my jumping, past my 40th birthday. All through my late 30's she kept saying she accepted it as my mid-life crisis. Wasn't too long following my 40th birthday that I simply cut that wife away! Whuffo's just don't understand, and never will. No use in even trying to bring 'em around either. You'll figure that out for yourself too I'm sure, soon enough. coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  3. Here's a few of me from over just this past weekend. I know most of you will say "whoopdy-do", really big deal, BUT... For those of you who may know me - and know that for the past 15 years of jumping, how highly I have "eschewed" FreeFlying - to strictly, and EXCLUSIVELY focus on RW ("Belly Flying"), so as to become proficient in that - to the total exclusion of everything else, THIS IS ...my very first FF Jumps (Thank you Lisa and Gregor from Delmarva!) a REALLY BIG DEAL! THANK YOU AGAIN GREGOR WEEKS AND LISA ECKMAN, for taking me out on these, and putting up with me over all these years to ALLOW me to now FINALLY "cave", and come on over to SEE THE LIGHT of "the dark-side"!! coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  4. P.S. - The "77-jump wonder" title by-the-way, before anyone jumps on me, is a (complete and total, "inside") JOKE! Just ask "Squirrel" from Orange - he knows ...(now). Blue (Mr Bill) Skies! -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  5. Here's a link to a Mr. Bill video, *(being provided for the record with permission) shot from the 1st person POV of the participant "Mr. Bill" (ahem, "Ms. Bill" maybe ) done just this weekend over Skydive Delmarva on all sport gear. 77-jump wonder performs Mr. Bill HERE coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  6. Nice pun! And CONGRATS Perigrine on the progression, and clearly with it too, having so much FUN!!
  7. AFF works just fine, so long as the other components mentioned (packing for oneself as ex) aren't also over-aggressively and egregiously CHARGED to the student to have to learn. Nobody ever charge me for packing lessons I routinely step in and make sure I personally take time to go over spotting, canopy flight, equipment familiarity, packing, etc. (on & on - whatever it is that is needed) with anybody that ever wants it, at ANY time. It's called "giving back", and what goes around comes around. Maybe THAT is what is becoming all too rare in the current environment, and somehow needs to be re - instilled into our community? I don't think "giving back" is in any way, method specific. FWIW, and JMHO. Blues, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone

"Away"? ...He's close enough to give you one upside the head IN PERSON! ...I believe he's taking part in the POPS WR attempts going on out there, where... Ahem, AT PERRIS RIGHT NOW! Look for him in the bombshelter (he likes the 2nd PC back) locking this thread, and giving you a little "time-out" probably AS WE TYPE! coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  10. Although that's "technically" "NY" too - be advised that the Long Island location is FAR from NYC. Buffalo is "NY" too, but not so much an easy jaunt or adjunct to NYC that a foreigner might immediately recognize. A NYC visitor would probably be closer to the Ranch, in Gardner, than he would be the LI DZ - but I suppose sure, it's all just semantics, eh? I still don't think there's an actual shop IN NYC that one can walk-in, and purchase a Cypres though, is there? If there is - or something relatively CONVENIENT, I think that this is what the OP is looking for. coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  11. Okay, so if you have a monkey fist, and can't extract your main PC at all, or a Pilot-chute-in-tow and you pull your cut-away. ...What do you expect your RSL to do for you in either case? "Conventional" or (versus) skyhook? coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  12. I thought Skydive Store was out of Philly area, not NYC. ...??? I know they've got something set up at Sky's the Limit (NJ) - but they are actually in the city too? coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  13. Sure - any of those knock-off stores off of 7th will carry 'em. Just like real Rolex's, Nikon's and Cannon's too! Sorry - I just couldn't resist. You'll need to step outside of Manhattan there SnowflakeNO, I'm pretty sure, if you expect to get what you are looking for, cash-shopping in person here. I'm pretty sure they don't just have these out in the usual tourist spots downtown for you to find one whilst window-shopping otherwise! Maybe someone else can best direct you to somewhere that may actually STOCK them. Here in the states though, USUALLY (yes, I know there are exceptions at some larger DZ's/gear stores) we order them through the US Supplier (via our riggers), SSK. Enjoy your visit state-side, and if you get south far enough to Delaware, feel free to stop in and say "hello". Blue Skies, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  14. A ground test is probably useful, but still may or may not reveal absolutely ALL the potential iterations of your body position possibilities in freefall. I would have earlier thought like you too, as I do not (routinely) sit-fly either. See my post just above this one. Blues, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  15. You'd be surprised how much your body can flex during an opening shock in actual FF, as compared to rigidly trying to re-create or "simulate" something on the ground. As an example - a few weekends ago during a competition event that included doing some actual low-pass hop-n-pop exits, I actually got surprised by a SLAM opening (my canopy usually snivels like a SOB on H&P's!), and I can still see clearly even now, my feet ABOVE MY HEAD in front of me, with my body folded nearly 180' at the hips during the deployment - that I could NEVER, even remotely possibly re-create on the ground. I'm just not otherwise, that flexible! coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  16. Ya think? Not if you still think ANY RSL has anything to do with "pulling the reserve" in the scenarios you described... or... Sorry - I don't mean to sound harsh with this dude, but seriously - please speak directly with a rigger in person at your dropzone, and get some better information of what ANY RSL does (and doesn't do) before you go making your "informed" decision. Blues, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  17. Say what? An RSL does not get your reserve out on ANY direct-to-silver reserve handle pull as you are describing! Please don't tell me you really think your "CONVENTIONAL" RSL either, actually has anything to do with, or rather "gets the reserve out" when you go straight to silver either. Pulling straight-to-silver equipped with EITHER RSL type still, directly pulls the pin from the reserve closing loop, allowing your reserve container to open - releasing your spring-loaded reserve PC. If you read the link provided in one of the posts now above mine, you can see/learn the rigging difference between how the skyhook attaches, and operates. coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  18. Hey Andre - good luck. Go get 'em guys!
  19. Sorry - I mis-read. Looks like you've gotten some pretty decent (and even MORE detailed than that other thread even!) information extracted into this thread anyway, after all! Good stuff. Cheers, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  20. Optional GROUP insurance through your employer is the only way I know. I used to work for an insurance company, and know of no independents who will write, at what you might call reasonable unfortunately, a "skydiver" (I put that in quotes be/c the ins co's themselves don't really know what that means) under an individual risk-rated policy. It's sad but true. That's why I say if anyone every really DOES find somebody who WILL (and I don't just mean with an exclusion clause/codicil) - absolutely, please do share! Check into buyin extra additional insurance at/through work. If that is not an option, I'm afraid I honestly just don't know of any other. I've been looking for a while too, myself. Sorry that doesn't help. coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  21. That wasn't a search suggestion. The poster has provided you with a direct link to another thread, that already speaks IN DETAIL about the differences between the 2 methods, and should - precisely answer your question(s) there, just as easily viewable for you, but without having to redundantly try to re-create/re-hash everything for you again here. You should be able to open up that thread, just as easily as you would otherwise this one, no? Just open that thread and look (read through) there. No need to search! Your responder already did that for you. Hope it helps. Cheers, -Grant coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  22. Yeah but, all the arguments, and "comparisons" in the world don't matter worth spit to the risk / actuaries / underwriters of the policies and administer those surcharge structures. If you do find one that it matters to, please do share with us all! coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  23. If you're LAST out, and you looked first, and CALLED the spot by that point "BAD" - I'm surprised your pilot could not give you a quick go-around, and would not. Are you saying you actually called for one, and it was refused? Or, did you based on your prior experience and presumption - just ASSUME you would not get one? Also, being last out (if I understand your set-up to this correctly), and you did call for a "go around", you really would have no need for a "FULL" go-around either. A 180' to put you back over the DZ in/from any direction for you then, really would not matter. Nor I submit, be that big of a deal. You should talk directly with your DZ / Pilot about this, and ask them what they think, and recommendation(s) should this same scenario happen again. All the above said - I will also COMMEND you, for not allowing yourself to fall prey to the (all too often still) "Get-bak-itis"!! ...And picking an out that sounds like it was actually BEHIND you!! - CONGRATULATIONS!! Hopefully others will also read this portion if ever found themselves in similar decision-needing situation (regardless of how they got there), and take heed. - GOOD JOB!!
  24. Dave - yer jumping out of Ellington now, eh? I'll have to come up and play sometime soon. What do you guys fly there in the "winter" months? Sorry for the thread drift. Hijack mode, now [OFF]... coitus non circum - Moab Stone
  25. On a completely off-topic note.... Is Orange currently flying Van Pray's Desert Express? Or was that jump done somewhere else? Was just curious when I saw that plane above lush green - an indeed foreign land for that bird. Sorry for the thread hijack! coitus non circum - Moab Stone
