I'm not an electical junkie! I live in B.C. Canada, where B.C. Hydro is part of a large power GRID that includes the Trans Alberta Power, this GRID stretches through the western United States and part of northern Mexico. Although these utilities are linked to BC Hydro, they are also linked to others GRIDs within the North American boundaries, it actually makes one big North American GRID. The danger is that even if BC Hydro could actually totally prepare, a failure within this GRID could cause such a drain that the effects could be felt here in BC A failure in California power knocks out the power in all of the northern part of the state. The grid is switched in such a way that a complete drain happens to Oregon and brings that part to its knees, and before BC Hydro can make any adjustments the entire West Coast is in complete darkness............... re: before BC Hydro can make any adjustments? Apparently some electrical junkies have the ability to make adjustments on time........... ahhh, it really has to do with the software? SMiles

- As newbie in this sport - riggers were like gods -, I respected the hell outa them until I learned that you can get different opinions from different riggers and rules where different in other countries. This is very freaky for a newbie and makes it hard to respect riggers for their value in this sport. I have learned to get a second opinion and have never felt this was "in bad taste." Smiles

Have to quit... why is it so hard??
smiles replied to skydv's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
How many jumps do you have? how long in the sport? Once I reached around 500 jumps I was able to balance my life more. The first 5 years found it difficult to do anything but skydive. Skydiving has been recreational for the last 10 yrs. (re: seasonal, make 2-3 jumps a week if time...re: married, raised my children, worked and always made time for a few skydives-) I actually believe I enjoy each second more and each second more precious.... when I do not jump as much as I could. 1000+ jumps with positive pull (pilot chute in the container where it belongs) Never had a hard pull, or pilot chute in tow and nothing beats pulling your own pin. Could anyone explain why positive pull is not more popular??????????? Smiles

I thought they separated sex offenders in prison to save them from their death? Mothers daughter was being molested for 9 years and just now at 16 was able to open up??. The daughter has swallowed unbearable pain for years, hard to understand how her mother did not feel it- regardless, .....the authorities can deal with a small percentage of the pain this child must endure. Will need professional help and much support. What would I do? Be supportive in anyway I can be. Smiles

Freedom is many things... Freedom can create perpetual peace, long life and secure lives, abundant food, wealth, and prosperity. Freedom is powerful in saving lives and enriching life. Democratic freedom produces human security. Freedom is a basic human right recognized by the United Nations and international treaties, and is the heart of social justice. Freedom-free speech and the economic and social free market-is an engine of economic and human development, and scientific and technological advancement. Freedom ameliorates the problem of mass poverty. Free people do not suffer from and never have had famines, and by theory, should not. Freedom is therefore a solution to hunger and famine. Free people have the least internal violence, turmoil, and political instability. Free people have virtually no government genocide and mass murder, and for good theoretical reasons. Freedom is therefore a solution to genocide and mass murder; the only practical means of making sure that "Never again!" Free people do not make war on each other, and the greater the freedom within two nations, the less violence between them. Freedom is a method of nonviolence-the most peaceful nations are those whose people are free. Smiles

I am addicted to my coffee in Canada! (even bring it across the border with me when visiting U.S. as can never find a cup there that equals my taste..) Murchies Columbian is my brand for 15 yrs. Coffee pot measures do not equal actual 1 cup measures... So- to make 3 cups of coffee I fill the coffee pot with 7 cups water (never use tap water) and use 3- 1 1/2 scoops (1 1/2 tbls.) cofffee. ahhhhh! heaven!!! And 1 happy mothers day to all mom's today!! Smiles

I found this info interesting (never heard of "corn plastics") before I read it........ Corn Plastics Anything that can be made from a barrel of crude oil can be made from a kernel of corn- - It takes about a month for plastic bags made from corn to degrade in a compost while a similar oil-based plastic bag could take centuries to decompose. - It is spun into fabrics for the "Ingeo" brand of clothing & blankets which are manufactured from "ingredients from the earth." - Coca-Cola Co. used 500,000 cups made from corn plastics at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. Instead of creating a large trash problem, used cups were simply composted and quickly turned into dirt..............back to nature in 40 days. The biggest demand for corn plastics has been overseas, including in Taiwan, where packing is developed for the many products the country exports to the United States. Taiwan bans petroleum-based plastic shopping bags and disposable plastic tableware.
