  5. why I started skydiving? My partner had been jumping for 2 years, we had two young son's to raise. I hated the fact he could take off and have fun whenever the sky was blue. For mother's day he gave me a dozen roses and a card which had a gift certificate for a tandem jump. I was disappointed as wished it was gift certificate for getting hair done, new outfit?? I had to rebel against any talk involving me trying the sport. I wanted to try skydiving because I wanted to- not because he wanted me to. I carried my gift certificate around in my wallet for the next year- it wasn't until he stopped pushing for me to make a jump- one day while doing dishes I decided out of the blue- hey, I am going to make a tandem jump. (1987) Hey, I wasn't trusting enough to relax- or even smile when the door opened. exit: I figured was horrible- too fast- couldn't scream- couldn't puke- couldn't shit my pants- freefall: wow, to this day recall how incredible falling stable was. canopy deployment: this was adrenaline pumping- awesome, the shock of experiencing freefall to the peace felt looking up at that huge canopy, how quiet it was flying around- how gentle the landing was.....how "alive" I felt. Being the responsible "mother" took months before I decided to take my training. Learning to skydive wasn't easy- army boots, reserve on my belly, round canopies- helmets that covered my eyes while looking up on launch--in the army now! Static line progression, 5 second delays- 10 second delays- 15 second delays- I did best on my jumps when my partner wasn't there to "be overwhelmingly helpful." what kept me in the sport? My tandem jump experience. All the way through my training I visualized being able to leave the aircraft- by myself and feel the sensation I had on my Tandem jump in freefall. (May 2002) I am logging my 1000th. jump- and extremely proud of it!! Can honestly say it took atleast 350 jumps before I could leave the aircraft and "fly my body" without thought. The merging of action and awareness- aware of my actions but not aware of my awareness. The action and reaction had become so well practiced- it became automatic. "I can fly!!" and feel the sense of ecstasy associated with every second of freefall. advancements in the sport and what I see in the future for skydiving? My oldest son (23) is taking his training this summer. He has established himself with a well paying trade, purchased his jeep- and now wants to pursue skydiving, and has saved money to get him off to a good start- even purchase his gear. Made a tandem jump when he was 10 (as soon as he could fit in the harness) Advancements in the sport today- he will not be taking static line progression. He will not be flying round main canopies or be jumping with a round reserve. He will be learning to fly with AFF training so will log more time in freefall. His progression into the sport will be alot faster than mine. His gear will fit nicer and be smaller. His pilot skills under canopy will also progress faster as he will be flying canopies that require way more skill. He will most likely get into freefly rather than discipline in the RW flying........ Question

I am a mother of 2 boys- skydiver for 15 years, raised my boys just fine. I know many mothers that skydive, and some grandmothers. In fact my 23 yr. old is now taking up the sport - On a forum like this I am sure you could get a reference of many mother skydivers that are even drop zone operators in this sport for over 20 years- with grown children that now skydive (Jessie Farrington-Kapowsin, Debbie Harper-Abbotsford Para Centre...) but sure it would not be necessary as this is what you pay your lawyer for. hungover?

this was my favorite top 10 ways to flush a hangover- W-W-W-WATERMELON I figure Mathew Carey in Australia has some good steps to follow: "Step 1: The day before you get on the piss, go to the local green grocer and purchase a small watermelon. Step 2: Get five Berrocas and dissolve them in a glass of water Step 3: Cut a small hole in the top of the melon Step 4: Pour the dissolved Berrocas inside the melon through the hole. Step 5: Give a gentle shake, and put in fridge. Let it sit overnight, or while your out on the piss. Step 6: Spend your seedy day -eating Berroca soaked watermelon." Smiles.

    pot heads?

If you live in B.C. Canada- the BUD is growin in atleast every 2nd house- on every street. Do you pull out a bong at the d.z.??? No- because you respect your most favorite place in the world. In fact I've never been to a d.z. where cops are pulling in looking to bust jumpers??? Have you??? Smiles.
  12. Crown Royal Special Reserve Silent Sam Vodka along with Tia Maria/Kahlua Jose Cuervo -----Courvoisier is great to warm up with -after freezin day of jumping- So are Blueberry Teas!! Dom Perignon (rose).....for my 1000th. Smiles.
  13. Rigger Rob, My main packing tray and deployment bag was built for a 220 sq. ft. I now pack a 150 sq. ft. in it. As canopy is still under 50 jumps it fills in the tray o.k. with tightened closing loop. My concern is with the deployment bag and stowing lines that are tinier and shorter than my 220. When stowing across width of bag with excess of 1 1/2- I am making less stows with my lines. As a rigger would you consider changing the stows on my deployment bag so they are closer together???? thanx Smiles.

I live in the Fraser Valley and haven't jumped yet this year (working on my 997th. once gear is in date & insurance.) Do you ever jump in Kapowsin? My home d.z. is Abbotsford Para-Centre: http://www.vancouver-skydiving.bc.ca/ Have you jumped our porter? http://www.islandnet.com/~skydawg/ is the link for Ultimate High Skydiving B.C. (Victoria Skydivers)?????? Not much in your picture gallery- as far as recognizing faces (except for Fred)....got tons of good links though -at this site. I cannot recall who the pic is of- on the button I designed?? Smiles.
  17. ...my parents might still have that stupid example of what not to do on video...i wish i had the resources to digitize it... ___________________________________________________ Ya- Kind of reminds me of water jumps at the lake in the summer- everyone had such a riot except one jumper who decided to cut away his main about 20 ft.- It was my turn to help in the boat (pull jumpers out of the water) and watched as jumper hit the water with legs separated.................(there was blood coming out his nose & mouth- internal injuries....) Talk about stupid ?????????????????? Smiles.
  18. Was reading an article today on Kloofing ??????? Defy Death! Venture into the heart of darkness- Cape Town (Cape Fear).......South Africa. If you are the kind of person who prefers a syringe full of adrenaline to a bowl of Cheerios for breakfast, then head to the southern tip of Africa for a vacation jam-packed with diaper-filling fun. What is kloofing? Basically it's bungee jumping without the cord. You hike down a gorgeous, pristine mountain through a river all the way to the bottom, jumping off waterfalls along the way. Some leaps are 50 ft. A few things to keep in mind when you jump: -If your legs separate before entry, it nearly guarantees a painful enema. (Safety precaution: stuff a plastic bag down your shorts.) -If you put your arms out to brace the fall, they'll smack the water, and dislocate shoulders. -Entering at an angle means you'll probably have the wind knocked out of you. (Some Kloofers have reportedly coughed up blood after a jump.) -Of course, you definitely don't want to enter the water straight either- you'll cut through, hit bottom, and bust your legs. Day trippers will take you on a trip down suicide Gorge, as long as you're willing to sign your life away with a release form. Suicide Gorge is too narrow for a First-Aid helicopter to land, and after the initial 33 ft. jump off Commitment Falls, the only way out is dowwwwnnnnnn. Wahoo! That's fun for $42 (gravity included) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Smiles.

  21. rigger rob- in your post you refered to: "a woman who hook-turned herself into the morgue." If she spun her canopy into line twists with a brake toggle lowered--(induced line twists) In this configuration the canopy turned violently with not enough time to clear the line twists- spun into the ground at a high rate of descent- Flaring before impact -would not be possible- "At about 800 ft, she performed a few sashays with her canopy and during one of these the canopy spun into line twists"- is a far different explanation than- "hooked-turned herself into the morgue." Would like to think far more could be gained in this sport from tragic fatalities like this? If found in this senario are students taught to pull reserve?
  22. Hey, any history info on the Geek Brothers?? smiles. http://www.id-graphics.com Skydive Pages
  23. My gear is positive pull- my kill line collapsible pilot chute was in tow- re: stiching of center tape in PC broke (only 30 jumps) Grommet of my d-bag is smaller and center tape of pc is narrow compared to others- (1/4 inch) not original d-bag for 150 triathlon or kl collapsible pc. Hands were on reserve handle ready to pull when main canopy opened- slowly-rockin back and forth- but she opened!!! Wake up call or what??? Now- should I return collapsible kl pc to manufacturer to be re-stiched and complain- or demand return on my investment?? Suggestions please & thanx. Smiles.
