My mom raised us 3 kids on her own... no religion, no atheist/agnostic.... A great childhood experience was the excitement of going to a sunday school where I played with other kids and colored and had stories read to me, one elderly lady played the piano and we learned to sing "Jesus loves me." The minister came to our door with an envelope for my mom (united church congregation) with money that was collected to "help us out." My mother refused it, and we didn't go to sunday school after that. I suppose she didn't want anyone to think she was anything but independent. One lesson I learned as a child for sure was strength in being "independent" and thinking "independently." Knowledge systems include mechanisms for testing assertions against observable reality, and belief systems don't. Aligned belief- chosen after careful consideration of options or alternatives. Assigned belief- acquired from ones familiar, cultural and religious background and accepted like a task or role assigned to the believer rather than chosen on a voluntary basis. Blind belief-refuses to be questioned or examined, contrast to open belief. Fundamentalist belief- received from tradition and not allowed to be altered, or questioned. ........... *** Once there was a philosopher fish. As he was in great misery and worry, another fish passed his way and asked "why are you in such misery?" The philosopher fish said, "wherever I go everyone is talking about the ocean. I went east, west, north, south, and cannot find this ocean." For the philosopher fish, belief in the ocean is not enough- he wants to experience it for himself. Now the problem is, he is also part of the ocean. He is unable to perceive the ocean because he has no adequate tool of perception. questions, questions........more questions! Jesus told us that God is Good, yet we know from Genesis that God knows Good and evil... "And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God." (Mark 10:18) In the creation story, God created Adam in His Own Image - but Adam was not entirely in God's Image, because Adam did not yet know good and evil as God does???? Adam and Eve knew only Good???, because for God to force knowledge of evil upon them would have made it necessary that God do evil???? Adam and Eve also had "free will", the ability to choose what they would do on the earth. For God to have made them without free will God would have made them slaves to Himself???? Being Good, then, the only way for God to teach Adam and Eve evil was to allow them to use their free will, and to decide to learn evil on their own??? God placed the tree of knowledge in the garden, He made it a beautiful tree with appealing fruit, but God commanded Adam not to eat from it. Adam ate from it anyway, God knew this would happen, yet He set it up so that Adam and Eve would eat from the tree even so??? Was there only one reason for God to do this??? ---Because God is Good, and to complete His creations it was necessary for Adam and Eve to learn Good and evil, and learn Compassion, Mercy, and Kindness at the same time???? God follows His own Law, God takes all responsibility for everything we do, however, because He created us, and the evil we do would not happen if He had not created us???? So as God set up the garden incident, Man did not fall - rather man did the Will of God???? Hey, isn't the understanding that before Jesus apparently comes.............. Jesus Christ indicated that false religion produces bad works, just as a "rotten tree produces worthless fruits" (Matthew 7:15-17) Jesus warned: "Every tree not producing fine fruit gets cut down and thrown to the fire" (Matthew 7:19) Revelation 17:18;18:12, 13,23 'all the nations are misled.' ...is harlot a worldwide religion entity? She depicts, not any one religion, but all religions that produce rotten fruit???? The beast that the harlot rides pictures the world's political powers??? False religion straddles the back of this political beast, attempting to influence its decisions and to control its direction?? The ten horns that you saw, and the wild beast, these will hate the harlot and will make her devastated and naked, and will eat up her fleshy parts and will completely burn her with fire???? The worlds political powers will turn on false religion and completely destroy her??? What must we do if we do not want to share the fate of false religion?? Get out of her, my people....the only haven is with true religion??? Whatever, does the end of false religion happen before Jesus apparently comes back??? "dry socket" is killer pain..... "the clot" in socket is extremely important... (wtf...use a straw for sure) the extraction of the tooth from the socket violently disrupts the attachment with the nerves and blood vessels. The first stage is the formation of the clot- that protects the exposed bone for 6-7 days. Ya certainly need that exposed bone protected folks- we are talking killer pain when it is disturbed, dislodged.........before granulated tissue replaces it around the 7th day- then connective tissue replaces that- until trabeculae is formed in the socket (35 dayz later) The complete regeneration of bone at the site takes several months. ahhh! it no longer exists! I have such little space in my kitchen and that drawer full of stuff had to go. It was mostly made up of my handy tools: re: tape measurer, multiple screw driver, wire snips....jars of odd screws, nails...staple gun and staples, snap off blades, poly instafil.. so I dumped all into a small tool box (big tool box is in the carport) and fired it in a cupboard. Wow! could have done that years ago!! SMiles eustress. : a positive form of stress having a beneficial effect on health, motivation, performance, and emotional well-being.

Is so and so qualified to be Canada's next PM?
smiles replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
Canadians don't like George Bush and the far-right coalition that brought him to power. Do Canadians view their nation as a secular democracy? The idea that our Prime Minister wishes to transform Canada to fulfill a religious purpose is a concern to Canadians. Canada's Prime Minister belongs to the Christian and Missionary Alliance. His organization's intentions for Canada are clearly stated in their VISION PRAYER: O God, with all our hearts we long to be: a movement of churches transformed by Christ, transforming Canada and the world. By your grace and for your glory: Renew and empower us through a fresh encounter with yourself Release us to be strategic in service, kingdom-connected in practice, passionate in pursuit of your mission and mercy Use us to fulfill your purpose for Canada and the world." Harper's Evangelical background is seen to cut against the grain of mainstream Canadian social values. He is the first evangelical prime minister since John Diefenbaker, and the first ever to belong to the relatively obscure Christian and Missionary Alliance denomination, a brand of Christianity that has a relatively small following in Canada. Civitas is a network of Canadian neoconservative and libertarian academics, politicians, journalists and think tank propagandists. In 2003 Harper's adviser Tom Flanagan was an active member of Civitas. As a Canadian I choose not to vote for government run by radical populists hiding behind the cloak of rhetorical moderation. The Americans assumed positions of power and influence in the administrations of Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. The Canadians have not had much opportunity to show (or is that hide?) their stuff. I am totally addicted to columbian coffee. In darker roasts, it is the roast's smoky, pungent, burnt taste that dominates overtaking the bean's natural flavor. Many times the dark roast's burnt taste will mask beans that are low in flavor and quality. (Starbucks tastes burnt to me) Lightly roasted coffee beans have a sharper, more acidic taste than darker roasts. The coffee suffers less heat exposure, which maintains the bean's qualities. Because flavor is revealed, light roasts are used with higher quality beans. I grind my columbian beans fresh for each cup and drink my coffee with sugar and half & half cream. What do you think about people sueing McDonalds?
smiles replied to stayhigh's topic in Speakers Corner
KFC's (canada) deep-fried chicken pieces (known as Popcorn Chicken) and fries meals had the highest levels of trans fats at 18.6 grams -- a level that if eaten daily may boost your risk of heart disease by nearly 100 per cent. KFC does not properly warn, disclose or even tell customers that they are eating food items prepared with the worst oil available . . . Burger King's Chicken Tenders and fries meal wasn't far behind at 13 grams of trans fats. Wendy's Crispy Chicken Nuggets and fries had 5.5 grams of trans fats -- at a level that if consumed daily, increases your risk of heart disease by 25 per cent. The lowest levels of trans fats were measured in McDonald's Chicken McNuggets and fries meal at 1.8 grams. t has already "virtually eliminated" trans fat levels in products such as McChicken and Filet-O-Fish because they've switched to new formulations of cooking oils that decrease levels of trans fats. ...classic Deep Purple Machine Head I picked up the DVD recently for cheap... (musical biography making of Machine Head) There was a time when "smoke on the water" was my favorite tune..spent many hrs. on my guitar tryin to play it but always had the pickin wrong. Watching the DVD I found out that "smoke on the water" was originally written about a true life recording experience. The dvd covers complete footage of the band while making the album with the Rolling Stones Mobile Unit in Montreux, Switzerland. Coincidentally, Frank Zappa's Mothers Of Invention were playing in town, and members of Deep Purple witnessed the burning down of the casino. The lyrics chronicle these events. To think back of the times I sung this tune in my head and had no idea that the song was a real event for the band!!!! Lyrics: We all came out to Montreux On the Lake Geneva shoreline To make records with a mobile We didn't have much time Frank Zappa and the Mothers Were at the best place around But some stupid with a flare gun Burned the place to the ground Smoke on the water, fire in the sky They burned down the gambling house It died with an awful sound Funky Claude was running in and out Pulling kids out the ground When it all was over We had to find another place But Swiss time was running out It seemed that we would lose the race Smoke on the water, fire in the sky We ended up at the Grand Hotel It was empty cold and bare But with the Rolling truck Stones thing just outside Making our music there With a few red lights and a few old beds We make a place to sweat No matter what we get out of this I know we'll never forget Smoke on the water, fire in the sky SMiles eustress. : a positive form of stress having a beneficial effect on health, motivation, performance, and emotional well-being.

Your assumption is tooo vague....wanting an excuse to get dressed up in a costume??? -the kids spend a month making their own costumes in the evenings together around the kitchen table and I get to spend time with them helping their fantasy ideas become real. Our neighborhood rawks on halloween, everyone takes part focusing on children and community. -great healthy fun, fun, fun -apple bobbing is a riot -the autumn leaves are beautiful- my yard is full of maple leaves that we rake into huge orange bags and shape like pumpkins for the front yard. -pumpkin carving is a tradition in our home- we all look forward to roasting pumpkin seeds also. -we have a field large enough to burn a huge fire, everyone welcome for a coco & pumpkin pie. -the kids run around screaming with excitement chasing the spookers and goblins, little devils... the best part is nobody finding out who is behind that costume and getting to scare your friends & trick or treat for your own special bag of candy (stored away for treats right thru to Christmas) Obvious reasons? -the joy it brings to children and adults as well -the opportunity to see neighbors -have fun in your own neighborhood -the elderly vicariously reliving their own adventures as children ??????? oooohhh, we luv it SMiles eustress. : a positive form of stress having a beneficial effect on health, motivation, performance, and emotional well-being.

Their response would probably be something like: Good christain scholars would never think there could be anything like a genuine error in the bible. To admit that he bible contains mistakes? Misquoting Jesus: Misquoting Jesus covered so much- my favorite was theologically motivated alterations of the text and the social worlds of the text. His book Truth and Fiction in the da vinci code- was a good read and I'm looking forward to his writing "decoding the secrets of a 1,700-year-old-text"...The Judas Gospel. churches? what about the WTO interpretation of scripture? -The WTO is god's organization on earth.... The concept that holds millions of JW's captive is their belief that the Watchtower Organization (WTO) is "god's chosen organization" as Jesus came invisibly [second coming]- to appoint them this position in the spring of 1919. This is of course, in fufillment of the scripture in Watchtower theology- (their interpretation of)Matthew 24: 45-47 God teaches them what he wants them to believe; that all of god's directions to mankind comes through this one and only "channel of communication." (termed as "old light" and "new light"..food served at the right time...or "proper and timely spiritual food.") They refer to their concept as "The only true religion." JW's consider themselves and their appointed 144,000 faithful and discreet slave class- "in the truth", everyone else on this earth is considered "worldly"....(work of satan) They completely accept that there is nowhere else to go, or that there is no other acceptable way to worship god. Amazingly, the scripture that WTO has always used to prove that there is nowhere else to go--- is the very scripture that says there is: John 6:68 "Lord, whom shall we go away to? You have sayings of everlasting life." The WTO teaches that Peter's response says: John 6:66-69 No Where Else To Go We will be impelled to serve god loyal with his organization if we remember that there is nowhere else to go for life eternal. On page 18 March 15 1988 Watchtower their explanation goes like this: "Peter knew there was nowhere else to go because Jesus had "sayings of everlasting life. Are you as determined to remain loyal to Jehovah's organization?" Even if a JW looks at John 6:68 they are unable to notice what it says re: Lord, where (not whom) shall we go away to? The WTO has sayings of everlasting life. The WTO is the only alternative to Satan's organizations. No matter how many false teachings or prophecies the WTO has ever had, they all must be explained in such a way so the WTO still ends up being god's organization. In their way of thinking they are voluntarily giving their unquestioning submission to god by being submissive to his organization. I am reading Misquoting Jesus- The story behind who changed the bible and why- by Bart D. Ehrman I have quoted below some of his writing. >Authors of the new testament? It has been clear to most scholars since the 19th century that Mark was the fisrt gospel written, and that Matthew and Luke both used Mark as one of the sources for their stories about Jesus. Mark portrays Jesus as in deep agony in the death, "falling on his face in prayer, and beseeching god three times to take away the cup of his suffering; on his way to be crucified he was silent the entire time, and he says nothing when mocked by everyone, including both robbers, until the very end when he calls out in anguish, "My god, my god, why have you forsaken me?" He then utters a loud cry and dies. Luke had this version of the story available to him, but he modified it significantly. He removed Mark's comment that Jesus was highly distraught, as well as Jesus's own comment that he was sorrowful unto death. Rather than falling on his face, Jesus simply kneels, and instead of pleading three times to have the cup removed, he asks only once, prefacing his prayer with "if it be your will." He is not at all silent on the way to his crucifixion but speaks to a group of weeping women, telling them to grieve not for him but for the fate to befall themselves. While being crucified he is not silent but asks God to forgive those responsible, "for they don't know what they're doing." One of the robbers mocks him (not two as in Mark), the other asks for his help, and Jesus replies in full assurance of what was happening, "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise." He didn't ask god why he had been forsaken- there is no cry of dereliction- he instead prays in full confidence of god's support and care: "Father, into your hands I commend my Spirit." Luke wanted to teach a different lesson, for him Jesus was not in despair. Maybe he wanted to give an example to persecuted christians about how they themselves should face death? Luke changed the tradition he inherited. John's gospel is quite different than each of the other (he never has Jesus tell a parable, or cast out a demon; and in his account, unlike the others, Jesus gives long discourses about his identity and does "signs" in order to prove that what he says about himself is true. The message of Paul is both like and unlike what we find in the Gospels. The message of James differs from the message of Acts; the message of John;.... Each of these authors was human, each of them was putting the tradition he inherited into his own words. There must be thousands of ways people interpret the book of Revelation, consider all the different Christian denominations, filled with intelligent and well-meaning people who base their views of how the church should be organized and function on the bible----- yet all of them come to radically different conclusions (Baptists, Pentecostals, Presbyterians, Roman Catholics, Appalachian snake-handlers, Greek Orthodox..........on and on Listen to discussions of homosexuality, women in the church, abortion, divorce, American foreign policy, with all sides quoting the same bible, and sometimes even the same verse... certainly the texts have to be interpreted to make sense.> freethefly wrote: Even if god had inspired the original words, we do not have the original words. How does one become convinced that the bible is the inerrant word of god? Do the biblical words themselves come to us by inspiration of the Holy Spirit? For almost fifteen hundred years manuscripts were hand copied by scribes who were deeply influenced by the cultural, theological, and political disputes of their day.
