  1. Maybe it was a cold day? Aw wait, that was this male thing... The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  2. You can find the words "sinistra" and "destra" in modern Italian. So guess where the words you wrote about derived from The word "links" (left) also has two meanings in German: one indicating a direction or side and another one meaning "not kosher" so to say. "Right" is connoted to "correct" in many languages - "orthodox" for example can be broken down to it. Most followers of orthodox churches express that their belief is (the) correct (one). Russian-Orthodox for example can be expressed with the words "русско-православный" (russko-pravoslavnyi" and "право" (pravo) means "right" or "correct" (in most Slavic languages, by the way) and relates to words such as "правда" (Pravda) which means truth. Phunny, huh? The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  3. Terrible thing. Things have changed, though and - at least here - kids are no longer forced to write with their right hand etc. (OK, there could still be some "doncha use the bad hand" in families, but I doubt this.) I noticed that about every fifth to every fourth student at my college is left-handed, which is definitely higher than 10% The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  4. So your instructors radioed something like: And now turn left... no, the other left... As long as you memorize THE safety rule the following way: "1st red then silver" (or something like this) every problem can be dealt with When I took my S/L instructor course the I/E taught us his cutaway mantra which considers both the "what's left" and the "what's red" question: "First cutaway, the reserve. First right, then left. First the soft one, then the hard one." The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  5. Though it is the dark side of the force... erm... once again: Paragliders also have fun, if you have a look. This guy built his own canopy for his acrobatic manoeuvres, have a look at his website. (Provides more videos etc) P.S.: Watch for the "outtake scene" at the end, woohoo... The sky is not the limit. 6. It's very close to the actual impression one gets when flying their canopy. BTW: If you get hold of Skydive University's "Basic Canopy Flight" video, watch it - they show (in a very descriptive manner how you can find out where you are going to land. ("Find the spot that doesn't move (neither up nor down)") This is also a valuable tool, especially when you find yourself a little off the DZ. This topic might also be dealt with in other videos, but I can imagine your DZ has a copy of the one I mentioned. P.S.: Never mind the stealth steering lines, I was just being nitpickerish The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  7. Might be something about having some German in us? I think / hope so But lifestyle, sports etc might have an influence, too Speaking of German: Did your surname bear an ä (a-umlaut) originally? The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  8. I also got 92, thanks for that goodie. How to put it: You don't binge drink, you don't smoke, you don't eat fast food and as a punishment you gotta live long. The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  9. I'm more attracted to her. P.S.: Your favourite looks a little like young BS - no offence meant. The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks

    Downton Abbey

Wah. I first had an idea of glimpsing "Down to Abedy" so I got curious. Doesn't air here in Germany, will take a while if they consider doing it at all. Sounds interesting. The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  11. Bah! That GUY has lipstick on! Quote taken from a Beavis and Butt-Head episode when they commented on a video of... clicky The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks

  16. Yeah, in my white room... :-) BTW, watching your link - am I the only one to be reminded of... clicky Muhahahahaha The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  17. Been jumping a Rawa camera helmet for several hundreds of jumps (FS video, TD video, FF video), never had an issue with snagging. The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  18. You're not a party crasher. A skydiving magazine must also contain pages/articles that give noobs an inspiration. Apart from that, your cartoons are so nicely done, everyone likes them. We had a sort of cartoon series here many years ago, but they weren't as good as yours. So I think things might even turn into a regular cartoon in "Parrotshootist"? Again: Nobody wants to read again and again about skygods, records and cutting-edge technology. There ought to be a balance you your cartoons and your experience (especially the way you express your feelings etc) add salt to this mix! The sky is not the limit. The ground is. 19. FIRST: Congrats to Namo! I am so proud of ya
  20. I know about the symbol, no worries. I went to school and university and can read. But I also know how to put things in context. And the context here is most certainly NOT a symbol one might find in Tibet somewhere looking like the one the Nazis abused for their weapons, their party etc. BTW: " if you are looking to be offending you don't have to look very far" Present participles have an active meaning; you most certainly wanted to use a past particle. Don't you worry, I do not look to be offended. I either feel so or not. And if you like to have a second look at my OP - I wrote that no answers are necessary as I only wanted to let off steam. Sorry if I sound patronizing, I just thought it's an appropriate answer to your patronizing reply. The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  21. You're not the only one who wonders, I suppose. And the swastika not only stands for a failed political party but for a regime responsible for WW II with more than 50 million deaths, the Holocaust, the killing of Sinti, Roma... the system that stood for concentration camps. So I am pretty sure the moron who painted the swastika on his plane might take a lot of flak for that. I know this is a question of whether I play with words. The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  22. Some nice jumping scenes so far, but: I was quite upset about the Nazi swastica on the plane and I bet the Jakowlev company doesn't approve of this "ornament" as well and so will a lot of older folks in Russia. Just to vent, no answer necessary. The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  23. Sufficient answers to what you intended to ask are given. As to my 2c: When I read the subject "if two parachutes malfunction come out" my first thought was: Fight till the very end, never give up. If all fails, follow the light. The sky is not the limit.
