  1. She started skydiving at the age of 66 and AFAIK never intended to go solo. She did a lot of other ventures including rides in aerobatic planes (w/o vomiting I was told, heh heh) The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  2. Not if in Germany... But there she probably would have had a Paratec Next rig One could also bitch about dad giving a bad example riding down the Devil's Skull without a proper helmet, but hey, it's a funny commercial and I liked it The sky is not the limit. 3. Proven in this video. Funniest part to me is the last shot, though The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  4. I did my 1750th jump yesterday (I decided to only have "special" jumps every quarter of a thousand after #1000) and tandem-jumped with an 83-year-old lady. It was her 108th tandem jump, woohoo. [*] She's got her own jumpsuit and frap hat, doesn't need to be told anything, so we just chatted and she was so relaxed and exchanged all these hand-twisting manoeuvres with other TIs and jumpers... Out of an AN-2, she arched like hell, so we were right belly-to-wind and I could wait a while until tossing the drogue, then we did some nice 360s, then pulled at 1500m. Right after the canopy was open she loooouuudly yelled "Geil!" several times which is supposed to be youth-speak here, huhu. She wanted to do "some nice fast turns" under canopy. Space was clear, altitude sufficient, so we went... 6 in a row, huhu. I landed her next to her friends and she lifted her legs 90° and we slid it in perfectly, a lot of 20-year-olds aren't as fit as she is... She has got her own jump logbook so I signed it, of course and had her sign mine in exchange She doesn't hold a Guiness Record neither for jump numbers no for age but flipping through the pages of her logbook I noticed she sort of "collected" both a great number of TIs and planes, even jumped from a hot air balloon. That was such a nice ride and she is so full of life, was a great pleasure. Just wanted to share the experience. [*] Article (in German) about her 100th jump with video The sky is not the limit. 5. These ducks have a hard time walking on ice clicky This video shows why we shouldn't jump in high winds... The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  6. Continues: Again, encouraging shouts to do the last steps. (OK, the verb got cut, but can't be any other word ) The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  7. Erm... I had to do some searching and hope "to pull out the bird" is synonym to "to flip the bird" as described here? If yes: GREAT idea, I'll do that tomorrow The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks

Will give it a thought but my DSL line here is limited to 6 Mbit so I think downloading will take loads of time... The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks

Sorry, Netflix is not available in your country yet. So I have to resort to DVDs for older episodes. Watched "The Rothman Disintegration" yesterday. The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  12. Oops, so indeed my remark about "not answering" doesn't make sense in this regard. Sorry about that. I checked the rating of compal.be and learned they are rated "good" regarding trustworthiness -> clicky The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  13. Heh, heh! WOT has been around for years and is well trusted. Because it - and this you seem to have missed - does NOT work the way written above. It meticulously weighs each vote according to an analysis of the user's rating behaviour from several aspects in order to determine their reliability. Furthermore, a rating will only be given if a sufficient number of votes have been cast. Thus, WOT avoids the problems of "usual" rating systems and is much harder to fool. The sky is not the limit. 14. I can't make out what you want to express by this sentence but blame it on me not speaking English as my native language. Nevertheless: Wikipedia is also a project entirely based on user activity. Just to give an example. WOT is not easy to fool, see here As for the aforementioned site: I am just reporting what I was shown running WOT with my browser (Opera). It might be the rating was manipulated so in this case the owners and their users should take appropriate action. The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  15. This proves 'merica is a land of socialism cause back in GDR times people always were short of almost everything - but the same people hoarded all these things "just in case"... The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  16. I just happened to find the following video which proves we ducks are daredevils, but usually very careful ones - clicky. It's quite a miracle that accidents happen to us, must have been statistical irregularities? Ah, and I just found a nice pic that shows how you should address "Mr Inner Critic" if he once again tries to diss you. (It's NOT a photoshop job, just a flower, but looks hilarious!) 17. Erm... JUST REPORTING: WOT (Webof Trust) has alerted me to not visit this website, due to bad reliability, see here. Could just be a random coincidence but the OT complained about them not answering... The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  18. Does this include the TIs? If yes, I'd be out To be serious: This limit sounds ...uhm... not really sensible to me. If they aren't fit, OK. But a fixed age limit, no. The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  19. In Germany, tandems must not pull lower than 1500 meters. At my DZ, TIs usually indicate 2000 m (by showing index and middle finger, just like Winston Churchill) to the videot (who then backs away, in line of sight of the TI) and wave off at 1600/1550 m and pull at 1500 m. 20. +1! That is why RW instruction is required on the way to your license in Germany. And one of the first and most important things is how to safely get out the door and/or set up an exit. I always practise this with students on the mock-up. It's not only you might "bump" your flap or pin, you may also dislodge or even pull out your pilot chute etc. The sky is not the limit. 21. Was there in 1995, what a hot rock in August Nice sights, we liked Valetta and the festivals in the villages that were held at that time. As for your skydiving venture: Piifish's advice is really good - just check with the PINK folks who organised boogies in a lot of regions in Europe and also in Africa (including Gambia) - if anyone near you can do, they are the ones to ask and rely on. 22. Very nice one, again. I liked the Frida Kahlo Duck. I think there is a museum with a collection of "Duckitised Portraits" - it definitely would fit in there, nice work! I also liked the Switzerland Duck climbing up the mountain and the evil capricorns (Alpine ibex) loitering on your way to the top... BTW, Duck wearing Lederhosen (leather shorts) - it's Oktoberfest time! Already had a beer or two? Your "I'm pretty well off considered it could have been much much worse" finishing picture is also a good one to think about. Nothing smug, on the contrary I dare to say. I hope you're progressing fast. Just being curious: Do the surgeons want to remove your Borg implants or are you (like me) going to become an airport metal detector trigger? Hehe hehe. As for the "I pushed the limits of landing" - it not only happens to ducks but also to swans, see pic attached. (Reads in English: My landing speed's too high! Sh*t, sh*t, sh*t!" 23. Sad that another 'merican is proving all the stereotypes about 'em being lost on almost any random map of the world Dr Wiki Pedia is your friend. The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  24. Excellent cartoon, thanks a lot! Gives a good idea of what happened AND... shows you're obviously healing pretty fast? At least I hope and wish so! "It felt like both hands reached up. Then I looked down. My bad arm hang, inert, like a piece of meat on a peg." - That's exactly what happened to me when I broke my right humerus and scapula due to premature deployment out of freeflying. The canopy opened but the lines were twisted and I reached up to the risers... WHERE'S MY RIGHT ARM? I was quite relieved it hadn't been cut off, "only" broken... I was lucky though and landed on a field so I didn't do any more harm to myself. Again, all the best to you, speedy recovery and the best physio! The sky is not the limit. The ground is. 25. Most younger jumpers at my previous DZ smoke(d). - They smoked right after dumping their canopies. -> Space in hangar wasted just coz they wanna inhale. - They smoked in the snack area. Cocky remarks like "I do not object to your eating whilst I'm smoking, hah haha" were often heard. - They smoked whilst folks gathered after the sunset load. If I told 'em to please not smoke near me coz I suffer from asthma they just did not pay attention to it. CONCLUSION: SMOKERS WHO SUBJECT OTHERS TO THEIR SMOKE SUCK. I do not complain any longer as the aforementioned DZ is almost out of business and the club DZ where I mainly jump now is way different: Though in the open, smokers usually do not smoke (fire hazard etc) or smoke at a decent distance. Even when we gather at the club house and put up benches and tables for a barbie smokers either sit downwind or withdraw from the sitting area for a smoko. CONCLUSION: SMOKERS WHO SMOKE WITHOUT SUBJECTING OTHERS TO THEIR SMOKE ARE FOLKS I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH (apart for feeling sorry for their health.) The sky is not the limit. The ground is.
