  1. Wow, the little buggers were almost as long in freefall as Felix Baumgartner, but he didn't have that pleasant landing area... The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks

It's just a light switch. I put the bottle on a loudspeaker (before a white background and with the sunlight coming from the right direction) and the light switch was just in the background I noticed that light switches in anglo-speaking countries are very similar to each other but different to what we have here. Same applies to door handles etc. But I forgot the "round canopy guy" my son made for me some years ago. See pic attached. A really tough guy he is, a T10 impacts much more softly! That is why he usually hangs from the bookshelf above my desk, "just spotting", see pic attached (with some other skydiving related items visible.) The sky is not the limit. The ground is. I bought the freefalling snowman at a local supermarket, too nice. It now hangs from my bookshelf at my desk and I occasionally give it a tug to make it swing up and down The "Legoskydiver" was given to me from a fellow skydiver for my 1000th jump - he had built the model with his 5-year-old son. The whiskey bottle... I gave them a picture of what I wanted to have but the glass artist just managed this interpretation. I could have refused to buy it, but at least it gives an idea. (The bottle is for a chain called "Destille" where you can buy spirits from the tap so that "bring your own bottle" makes sense there ) I came across a 3-way with steel figures here at steelman24.com Just seen they have two more: Round canopy guy and lone star freefaller The sky is not the limit. 5. not sure that bathetic is what you really mean No it is haha. Bathetic, having bathos. Bathos definition: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/bathos I am refering to number 3 in this definition, I guess I could have used the word tritness You're being creative Dictionary.com has an entry for it, BTW. According to Marriam-Webster it has been used since 1845, heh heh. Freedictionary refers to it as a blend of pathetic and bathos The sky is not the limit. The ground is. 6. One evening at the bonfire we ordered pizza and ... had forgotten to get a pizza cutter or a knife. Our rigger however, came along with a pair of big scissors and told us he always cut his pizzas with scissors. Sounds strange but it worked really well! We do not order pizza very often at home (we already have to struggle with our weight ) but if, I use a pair of old scissors. The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  7. This business is based in Dresden, Germany, which might be quite a distance from where you live. OTOH, shipping isn't that expensive anymore these days, huh. They also do rigging the way that may come handy to what you might be looking for, just click to Dagama Rigging Specials. There isn't an English version of their homepage but if you drop them a mail or give them a ring you'll find out they speak English well. The sky is not the limit. The ground is. 8. I'm 1,85m (6'1") so I am usually taller than my students but it happens that they are hightowers If they do arch at exit it works from a tailgate without a flip, see pic attached. Nice student, really good body position. If they de-arch thing might become interesting The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  9. I am so far comfortable with 6-8 tandems a day incl. packing as long as packing is in the hangar 6 students with 90kg (~200 lbs) especially with BMI 28+ will exhaust me as much as 8 tandems with let's say students around 80 kg, though Steady, clean wind at ~20 knots is doable but I prefer to stay on the ground if it's > 16/18 knots. 10. Just found an ad at myskydive.de that isn't really in the price range mentioned by the OP but it might be worth dropping a line to info@wingstore.aero in case they have more used rigs to sell - they can be trusted, have a green WOT sign, have dealt with them, nice guys. Or you look at the classifieds at myskydive.de - most folks there speak English fairly well so you might be lucky though shipping costs may be a factor... Heh, heh! The sky is not the limit. 11. There has been a successful lawsuit where a coloured man complained about being denied entry to a disco just because of his colour. Fact is - he only won because the bouncers were very stupid and behaved openly hostile towards him. Others work more "cleverly" and get away with it. There are still so many subtle ways of discriminating against race, gender, place you were born etc... P.S.: "Because of the place someone was born or lives?" -> A woman filed a lawsuit 2 or 3 years ago because she was refused a job merely due to the fact she comes from East Germany - she was given back her application with a red ink remark "Ossi!" which along with other remarks showed she was refused the job just because of being "Ossi" (would be "Eastie" in English) - She lost the lawsuit. Guy's on the ........ right? Heh heh, yeah. The uniforms look even ...ummm... funnier when the guys wear their hats with the black band swung around their chin, look here. I saw these uniforms when watching "Sea Patrol", nice series. The uniforms are OK, especially the ones from season 2 to 5, it's just for the seamen (lower ranks) with shorts and black stockings, heh hehe... The sky is not the limit. The ground is. 13. If you ever visit Germany, tell me in advance and I'll drop by and serve you a sixpack of Duckstein (and jump with you if there's any chance...) The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  14. I work at a vocational college here in Germany (no grooming codes, you know, we are a free and liberal country ) but I sometimes wish girls were required to not show up with belly tops. Bikinis would be a nightmare. Hell, what happened to "young and sporty"? JellyBelly, "Love Handles/Spare Tyres", "Hip Gold" used to be reserved for 40-and-above-year-olds! Same applies to boys, by the way... So, if someone looks like Ellie, yes. It's no longer the age that matters, huh? The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  15. Wow mate, seems ducks are very popular in 'Straya when it comes to beer. I bet there are some nice pubs named "Drunken Duck" as well? Anyway, our next trip to Oz is overdue, so we will have a look for one of them duck beers. If not, I'll stick with Tooheys Old. The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  16. Had one last night, wow! Duckstein! (Pronounced "dook-shtayn" with a short u in the first syllable, as to be heard here or simply go here and watch the embedded video in the bottom-right corner.) It's a beer for the the connoisseur, pricy but tasty. And also something for the eye to enjoy, look at the bottle Might be hard to find in the US, but it belongs to the Carlsberg Group (respective link), so who knows... Found this link. Aussies - at least in WA - may enjoy something similar, looks a little different (bottle, coat of arms etc), but the "Dunkel" should be close though it is not matured on beechwood, as far as I see it. 18. Job advertisements are - as far as I know - required to be gender-neutral in Germany. Most jobs have a masculine and a feminine form and so these adverts usually look a little strange because both forms are attached to each other with a slash. (Like: Sachbearbeiter/in) The new - politically correct - job names ("Sachbearbeiterin" has replaced "Sekretärin") add to the strange feeling, at least to folks who are used to the older names. If one looks more closely, however, you will find the despite all gender-correctness etc pp the highly-paid jobs still are mainly hogged by males. So names alone will not solve the problem, it's got to do more with the attitude of society as a whole. Politicians here are discussing whether there should be a law requiring companies listed in the German Stock Index (DAX) to have a minimum number of female CEOs and ViceCEOs etc. The sky is not the limit. 20. I just looked up the DZ locator at www.myskdive.de... and found: this link resulting in Skydive Zürich, hehe! Apart from that: Just stay at the DZ on a rainy, windy day and ask/persuade instructors or old farts (best. old fart instructors) to learn packing. Demanding, exhausting 3-4 hours but worth it and you will pack much faster after the ordeal 2 hours isn't thaaat bad. Just take care you are focused, improve your packing and go for it. Stay there at the weekend, better ratio of "travel time" to "jump time" And/or jump at Skydive Zürich? The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  21. So how does that work? It's the possibility that is less likely to happen if you want to do a balloon jump but it's manageable. The winds must allow for it and then the balloon pilot will start at a certain point, drifting with the wind gaining altitude just timed to drop off them skydivers above their DZ The sky is not the limit. 22. So do German authorities, thus making checks of electronic devices in automobiles mandatory. The results of TÜV electronics checks prove that electronic devices need maintenance. German link Just one pick: Electronics check-ups revealed that 161 in 145,000 tested airbags of cars up to 5 years of age were faulty. Well, it's a bit comparing apples with pears as airbags etc also have a considerable amount of mechanical parts but it gives - at least in my eyes - a little more than a glimpse of how tough a job it should be to produce electronic devices used/stored at -30°C (at 4000m in winter) to +60°C (in car, in summer), in very humid and very dry conditions, being shocked, pushed, accelerated/decelerated etc pp for 20 years... 23. A pic I filed away some years ago, a Katana with broken toggle tine. Landed standing as far as I see it. The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
  24. I just considered the "typical" balloon jump, at least around here. In summer, the exit altitude is often only around 1200m. Not too bad if you (and most of all, your body) know what to do to get into a stable belly-to-earth position at low speed. If you are a low-number jumper you might find it difficult and find that there isn't "plenty" of altitude. If exit altitude is around 1500m or even 2000m we may talk about "plenty" of altitude If it is a fly-in, no problem - familiar landing area and/or familiar outs near the DZ. But if the balloon takes off at the DZ you will jump out at a location you are at least not familiar with. Might "only" be an area with meadows and some fields, "small change" from a perspective of 1500m AGL... but probably ditches, power or telephone lines etc pp. Requires some experience, to deal with, huh? Thus, you ought to have 300 jumps in Germany in this case (clicky) The sky is not the limit. The ground is. The Society of Skydiving Ducks
