That same problem is very common in Tempo reserves... Personally, I flew a Tempo a couple of years ago and it was absolutely fine. I have three rides on three different tempo's....all were around a 1-1 wingloading, they all flew strait, the flair was a typical f-111 landing *thud........no damn surf at all!!!!! Sometimes they just wont go, I havent ever had one not go (yet) we give them three runs, then land with them (dz policy) most people respond well if you exude calm.......*but not all..... about three years ago I was running the first jump course S/L on friday night, it was a class of eight. Seven men, one woman, from the start of the class, she looked uncomfortable.....as the training progressed through the malfunctions part she started looking very scared, when we took a 30 min break I asked her to stay behind, when all the other students were outside, I asked her her reasons for jumping....."because her b/f paid for it" was the answer.....so she was doing it to please him. I asked her if she would be more comfortable jumping with someone, (tandem) she said yes, she then asked what would he think of her doing a tandem....I told her to tell him she wanted the freefall.... she had the time of her life.....I video'd the dive, and it was the only time I have been tackled in a hug by a 5' tall hottie........ If she would have been doing a static line, she may have froze, or at the very least not had a positive encounter with this sport...... She has never come back, but there was no feeling of failure....... and I have no doubt that she has wore her video tape out. This sport isnt for everyone ... unfortunatly.....cause most people will never be able to feel what we take for granted on a regular basis... Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... 250.00-500.00 dollar range----???? have you lost it?? are you really serious? or just stirring the pot? increasing the fee for a pro rating will deter many qualified jumpers from attaining it, dont kid yourself, with your ratings and membership fees dont you think you pay ENOUGH?? I do..... strikes me that its extortion at its finest. cause we are willing to accept it. I am three jumps from my pro-rating, but if the fee were increased I wouldnt bother...... I have no problems with increasing the difficulty in obtaining the pro rating, I think there is waaaay too many people who are unqualified to have it that do in fact have it. It is your right to know what he does, and he should be willing to answer any reasonable questions you may have about anything pertaining to your rig. If you want to spend the money on another rigger to check his work, then I would say go for it. but if he opens the reserve, then he will have to repack it, he cannot just peek.... why aren't leather helmets legel substitutes for helmets for motorcycles? because the helmets from the turn of the century protected (leather) from road rash....not from blunt force trauma...... most motorcycles topped out at about 60 mph **** if you had big balls!!!!!! now days a 600 cc sport bike can easily attain 150 mph anything between your head and an impact point is better than nothing!!!! some things are better than others, frap hats are the worst....... If you ask me this is a lot better than the US system as DZ's are protected from the accidents that are just "shit happens ---> here in america a loser can sue for being stupid enough to place a extra hot cup of coffee between her legs in her car and squeezing.....knowing full well that its a styrophome cup with a plastic lid, both of which become mallable when hot..........she won the lawsuit against mcdonalds............. common sense has no place in our judicial system anymore. Something happens to the jumper due to lousy pack job......... ---> like what? can you give an example of a lousy pack job that would be Identifiable after a bounce? I can think of a few... impossible pull(maybe identifiable), molar strap still on the reserve, definatly easy to identify, barrel link that was loose and bent open (if you could find it) even the best pack job in the world can fail, and if your flailing/ spinning/ tumbling when you pull, you have just increased the odds of a failure of some kind. Its really sad that this is something that riggers do have to worry about. says something about the state of the world doesnt it?........ Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... Where I do video work, both the tandem master and the vidiot (me) have to agree that someone has the skill and common sense to jump with us or they dont go..... If I was TOLD that someone that I thought wasnt up to it was gonna jump with the tandem then I would walk away, they can get video from someone else......... I broke my personal rule once and I was hit very hard by the low time jumper that was going to lurk 25 feet out and watch his moms tandem, he got a bit carried away..... never again Roy They say I suffer from insanity....
