I don't recall the year but me n my freefly partner were at the 1st Kathy Dause fan club event at Lodi. A lot of beer got drank, all the fuel for the turbines got used, and depression set in as we realized we were done jumping... so we started drinking more beer to console ourselves and suddenly there was THUNDER ... they fired up the DC-3 - jumping was back on, quickly sobering ourselves with tic tacs we ran for manifest. at just under 2k all the locals started putting helmets on and tightening straps - I was confused so I asked a local "hey, whats up? does this thing climb that fast?" he replied "no m8, he's gonna switch tanks and sometimes it doesn't pickup... --- say whaa? Jumping out brought to me the realization that I hadn't really ever experienced prop blast, wow that bitch has a mean punch

Armed citizens stopping mass shootings - Who to believe?
D22369 replied to ryoder's topic in Speakers Corner
Having a weapon opens up options other than try to help and if caught run or die. I honestly cant understand the people with the victim mentality - apparently we should all be unarmed and at the mercy of any scumbag that decides to end our lives... my hat is off to the hero in Kenya. Armed citizens stopping mass shootings - Who to believe?
D22369 replied to ryoder's topic in Speakers Corner
The average citizen with half a working brain researches the law and understands when they can and cant use a gun. unfortunately there are those who don't try to know the law. there are also those that don't seem to understand that shooting a box of ammo 10 years ago doesn't qualify as being proficient with that firearm. some people seem to view carrying a firearm concealed as a substitution for common sense... I am 48 years old, ex marine, competitive shooter for over 20 years - I have been in two shoot/don't shoot situations in my life - both times my gun stayed holstered as the situations did not meet the criteria for justified shooting Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... Ever had a student not be affected/excited by skydiving?
D22369 replied to Berbesol's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
heh, go see the doctor, your adrenal glands have stopped functioning your lack of reaction is kinda odd, but understandable if you were a bomb disposal tech or sumpin out of all the students I have thrown out the door I had one that had a reaction like yours, she was like ... "is that it?" her husband called the next day to let me know the adrenaline hit her later that night -
100 million of you running around armed is even scarier than the cops who still suck and hit random women in the ass after training and passing tests 2x a year. *** 100 million of us? just running around waving our guns anytime anywhere huh? we get it, your scared of guns, fine, I even understand why. however... many of us actually have training and maintain a high level of proficiency so that if we have to use our firearm we don't hit some random woman in the ass. your blanket statement is quite annoying. its a right. however nowdays with the bullshit legal twists you may be in deep shit for the actions you take in defending yourself. Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.

Minimum A license IMO makes you a skydiver*** I always told my students that once they pulled for themselves or handled a malfunction *(whichever came first) then they could call themselves a skydiver, I trained static line and IAD and in my mind once they saved their own life then the title was theirs. but I kinda like your idea too. as an American I have to confess I would rather watch hockey than football... nearly every run brings a flag on the play in football - wtf? bunch of pussies, if their isn't blood or bones sticking out they should keep playing - who gives a rats ass if someone facemasked someone else.. that handle on the face is soo inviting - and everyone has one!! grab em back!!!! guess I am a closet canook

Demos gone viral, killing the business.
D22369 replied to grimmie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Good example as to why we don't allow *IDIOTS* on our demos! *** I edited your statement to more be more accurate. When I was a working jumper I was getting 10+ demo's a year working with three different dz's. on the DZ any fun or work jump I always swooped unless I was out of position or in traffic. Demo's however are different - there is no place for a swoop in one - a nice simple tip toe landing that looks effortless impresses people and is far safer. if someone is swooping in a demo it means someone let a fool onto the team and he should never be allowed to participate again - and the 'captain' obviously lacks the ability to use good judgement and shouldn't be in charge. just being a swooper doesn't make you an idiot - high performance landings just attract a lot of people who shouldn't perform them. one month of going to the dz and watching everyone else while I argued with myself. I had a self entanglement on jump 11 - I did a front flip into my deploying lines, spent 2k trying to get them out from around and between my legs then chopped at 2k only to find out I wasn't going anywhere... at 1500 still somehow trapped in the lines even though there were none between my legs I dumped the reserve hoping to get a bigger wad of crap above my head and survive the impact - I had no hope of a good reserve, I knew it was going to entangle. But the round reserve opened in front of me due to the spin from the wadded main and it opened cleanly then the ball of crap drifted off. the only thing I did right on that jump was to keep track of where I was - the reserve pull was pure desperation. and what really shook me was in the parachutist magazine -there was a fatality the month before exactly the same but with a different result. it took me a while of calling myself a coward to get the nerve to make one more jump then call it quits if the love was gone - thankfully it wasn't gone at all. Although you sound like your asking for peoples input about injuries and coming back I just thought I would reply as this was the one incident that really made me sit back and think "is this worth it" I had some really interesting line burns all over my body but I had no real injuries and I think that my incident made it easier to understand and help with new jumpers fears once I became an instructor. High perf landings and wanting to be selfish
D22369 replied to sundevil777's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
its all in the delivery, some will still take any comment as a hit to their "mad skills" we had a young lady that was way over her head but didn't think she was *(mad skillzs) and after scaring the entire dz staff really bad everyone had their say - most were from the "your gonna die/get hurt point of view" and it got quite confrontational - I stayed out of it since they all added exactly what I would have said and I was extremely upset I just stayed away and grabbed my next load of students. After landing she stalked up to me on the field and said "you might as well jump down my throat too" I was silent and took my time daisy chaining my lines to give myself time to think of how to reply - I startled her with a big hug and replied quietly "don't make me watch you die" it slipped right through her armor and she started bawling and apologizing she became a model jumper, went on to get her tandem and rigger rating. she was my only success though, the few others I tried to help - I failed to get through to them as did everyone else who tried Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... If you can't say anything nice about islam, shut the fuck up.*** it will be a great day when islam, christianity and all the other religions finally die out. only difference between a religion and a cult is the numbers of gullible fools who believe. and no, none of us have to shut the fuck up about islam, there isnt anything good about it - oh gawd does that make me an islamaphobe? LOL - better add in christianaphobe, protastaphobe and any other 'phobes' you can drum up. Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.

way back when tandems used the old f-111 mains they hung in the sky forever giving the vidiot plenty of time to land - get a drink - do their taxes, etc... and still be set up for the landing shot no matter what canopy the cameraman used. nowdays with the faster tandem mains its just easier to get down faster with a smaller canopy. I didnt use packers very often so 10+ pack jobs in a day in addition to the jumps themselves would leave me tired, my swoops would get milder as my fatigue grew. I am working as hard as I can towards being a weekend warrior work jumper*** dont be afraid to stand down if the conditions are bad or your exausted. stay hydrated. challenge yourself to learn everything your canopy can do untill your confident you can do that braked approach into a off dz field/backyard/ parking lot - I think far too many people skip ahead to faster canopy's and dont plan for when everything goes to hell. So what about the kids? This thread is about Gay Parents
D22369 replied to OHCHUTE's topic in Speakers Corner
I only know one gay couple *men thier boy is 13 and is very interested in females and seems to be quite normal and happy, he is doing great in school, sports, he is polite and articulate - far beyond most his age, and I see no reason for anyone to question thier parenting on the basis of thier both having the same gender they are doing a great job raising him - far better than most "normal" couples these days Roy They say I suffer from insanity....
