like someone already said, take a WFR class first. just yesterday i got back from a RMAP (remote medicine for advanced providers) class, which is geared for paramedics-MDs. i learned alot about what you can use in various ways. as far as the kit goes, its mostly personal preference, but i will never leave home again without some cloth athletic tape, kerlex, and kling. so much can be done with those three things. beyond that its all personal preference really. my instructors survival/med kit could fit in something just bigger than an altoids box. its all in how creative you can get, and hes about as good as they come.
