  1. I'll take the first week of July. Anyone else want in? Because you all have pissed him off by pointing out the obvious, I think he will over compensate. I take one of the next two jumps. pick a date man! there is no telling when his next two jumps could be... but you could very well be right.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  2. the oft heard cry of the unlucky.... relying on luck is silly... pretending it doesnt exist and that some people dont have more of it than others simply because there are to many factors to fully quantify it, is equally silly... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  3. rotf... nah i needed to do something else for a half hour anyway... think of it as a system enforced intervention... but i have noticed pages loading slower (from several locations so its not my connection) over the last week or so... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  4. Depending on weather, put me in for $20 for last weekend in June, with a weather makeup the 2nd weekend in July. I'm feeling a Saturday, maybe the 1st or second jump of the day. Are we going to have a separate pool for fatal vs just compound fractures? oooh oooh i want in... but you only get ONE weekend... weather is part of the equation no outs for bad weather you didnt consider... so my $20 on the first week in Aug... of course there is always the chance this is a dz.com specific species of troll ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  5. a night tandem would seem like a waste of money to me... even as a licensed skydiver... the visuals are a big part of skydiving.. what are the chances a first time jumper is going to be aware enough to really recognize the limited sight picture they will get by doing a night jump? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  6. lol... leave it to me to search for a thread on server errors instead of reading first... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  7. hmmm seem to be a lot more slow downs and unfound pages recently......just wondering... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

    Crash

its http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hv&cf=info&id=1808631706 this one.. has a TON of 'name actors' but no real 'staring roles' so to speak ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  9. i'd be interested to know WHY the GPS was so far off.. i'll bet it was operator error of some sort including not checking the FOM before accepting its reading as accurate ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  10. At this point, it's just a story. Has anyone actually over there seen anything like he described? I have not heard any other accounts of similar incidents. If there was proof stuff like that was going on, the media would be all over it. yes...and far worse...these are standard line units and reservists, mostly untrained for, and ill suited to the missions they are being called to perform. It really really sucks when your enemy is nearly indistinguishable from the people you are trying to 'defend' after a bit of time EVERYONE not in your uniform starts to look like "the enemy".. all it takes to recognize these kinds of attitudes can and do exist in our modern military (even with all the politically correct regulations and sensitivity training) is a quick trip to the porto johns... unless of course you believe the insurgents are sneaking in and writing blatantly racist comments all over every stall in 'secure' areas... however dont mistake reality for bashing our soldiers, or anti american sentiment. Soldiers are what they are and have always been. The surest way to break a tool is to misuse itand we are misusing the majority of our troops..... just wait for the fall out when they return home in large numbers and have to adjust to 'civilized life' again.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  11. What a bunch of Bullshit. I don't buy it for a second. But hey if it fits your agenda it must be true. Josj btw- Who believes Coke is sending Glass bottles over to Iraq? Bunch of crap, that's all that article is. ignorance is bliss eh? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  14. Don't worry. This time we'll just sit back and wait for Seoul or Tokyo to become a ball of fire and light. Then we'll ask the liberals what they want to do about it. we wont have much choice.. we've hamstrung our ability to respond effectively... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  15. ahhh, hind sight is always 20/20 isn't it. hopefully, countries will find ways to settle differences with words instead of fists but, hey, if you think that sadam's regime was not a threat to the u.s. then, we simply have a difference of opinion and arguing over the internet is entertainment only. the funny thing is it wasnt hind sight. LOTS of people pointed out NK as a greater threat, (not just here, but administrative experts and advisors as well) they were all summarily ignored and sidelined as it wasnt in the agenda... Sadam wanted to be a threat, but did not have the means.. 10 years of embargo had seen to that... post invasion simply confirmed it.. and now we are in a piss poor position to do any thing other than threaten NK because of a preplanned agenda on the part of the current administration.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  16. what is really funny is you attacking those who refuse to use proper grammar as 'lazy' by using the position that it makes it easier to communicate i.e for the reader to be lazy instead old english 'standards' changed because usage changed.. modern 'standards' are evolving in exactly the same way. No matter how much the determinists whine about how 'wrong' a current usage is, once it is commonly accepted it becomes the new 'standard' by default. Even if last years grammar anthology disagrees... language is a living thing. the 'rules' are simply documents of dead and dying conventions apostrophies are archaic. there is no instance where a perceptive reader would be confused without them... of course a lazy reader might they (like many other 'standards') are a crutch for those who cannot think critically or read for content, but must instead rely on additional signs to point the way.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  17. are you kidding?? you really really should do some research and perhaps take a linqustics class before you say something silly like that.. grammar has changed in our life time and it will continue to evolve in the same way language does... only the determinists believe otherwise and they have been proven wrong time and time again.. contractions are a perfect example. At one time anyone using a contraction was considered lazy and uncultured, now they are an accepted part of writing. As much as some might hate it, all the 'txt speak' in usage now will eventually become accepted forms as well when the kids who grow up using it are writing the 'rule book' and we become old farts complaining about "how much better things used to be" punctuation is another.. the evolution in media has created uses for all those symbols that simply never existed 10 years ago.. the addition of a simple semi-colon and parenthesis con completely change the real meaning of a sentence...commas and periods are use to add tonal inflections beyond what is taught by grade school standards... of course if all you can comprehend how they "should" be used, you miss the subtleties created by the new usage... slavish adherence to the 'rules' does as much to inhibit clarity as poor usage... it takes two to interact thru language and the readers preconceptions are equally important in comprehension as the writers habits.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  18. get out and play, do the things that you love (even if they dont seem so cool anymore) and dont look back... the bastards are not worth it and all the bitter recrimination thoughts that go through your head about them only throw good energy after bad... some people are scum it's times like this that let you know who your real friends are.. its hard to do.. but cutaway and move on... your life will be better for it edit: this was mine... some days i'm still pissed, not really because of what happened (i'm over that) but because the fall out from that completely changed the direction i was planning on going and now one of the most beautiful places on earth is off limits (self imposed choice because i know myself well enough to know i'd do something vicious when the opportunity presented itself and i dont want to be that person) to me ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  19. hmm not much lately.. just reread the hitchhiker's series and picked up Last Chance to See in hardback also for mind candy i've been reading Tim Dorsey's Serge A Storm books.. (Triggerfish Twist, Cadillac Beach, Stingray Shuffle plus a few more) the state of FL must HATE him... but the scary thing is as exaggerated as alot of his plots are, the locations and sideline observations are dead on... was really cool reading about locations, (even down to convenience stores in Cocco Beach) that i know EXACTLY where are... and of course Serge's comments on modern society (and FL in particular) are incredibly funny ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  21. mayeb later this week i'll dig out the incident reports of soldiers who were strangled by their dogtags because they replaced the standard chain (designed to break under strain) with 550 cord.. you might not have any clue the danger your in until its to late... i dont take mine off when i jump either, but it is a simple silver chain and would break long before it became a hazard.. 550 cord will not... making an intentional break point is simply smart design... no necklace is worth your life is it? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  22. not really... lies are rarely complete in and of themselves. often tehy require additional lies to support them, eventually (very quickly for those who pay attention to details) the cracks begin to show and the facade falls apart... then you have lost all credibility for nothing... you could have simply told the truth... fiction (real fiction vs outright lies) never claims to be truth... there is a fundamental difference between fiction and lying... if you dont recognize that then you have bought into the 'culture of lying' wholesale... and that is the exact problem with lying in the first place... why is it so hard to tell the truth for some people? give me an ugly truth over a pleasant lie anyday... at least i know where we really stand... Obviously, you've never met someone who knew how to use the english language well enough to say what they wanted to, regardless of truth content. Let me give you this example, morals and principles aside. You're planning on proposing to your girlfriend, but you gotta get the ring without her knowing it. She's at home, you say you gotta go do some stuff, she asks what, you tell her you have to go by walmart for some carpet cleaner, which you also have to do. She says pick me up some shoe polish, I'll see you later. You just told the truth, while at the same time decieving her for a reason that no one would claim is immoral. You're not gonna tell her, "I'm going to go pick up your ring honey, act surprised when I propose tomorrow night". or perhaps i have a low tolerance for blatant dishonesty and dont surround myself with those who have to lie to create a false impression if your going by walmart in the first place you are not lying.. if you have to create a lie (although as you point out, your example isnt really a lie unless your stupid about how you say it) you should have thought about your statement BEFORE you made it.. its not hard to tell the truth without giving away your surprise... by lying about where you are going you are more lkely to create a situation that requires you to continue to lie to support the first... of course you also have to be able to recognize the difference between lying and simply not saying anything.. in this example, simply leaving out the lie about 'saving her life' would have avoided the entire integrity issue... but sadly from the responses i can see integrity and truth arent as valuable to some as achieving 'a warm fuzzy feeling'.... no matter how much you have to lie to create it.. no thanks.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

    Numb3rs

There is actually something called the "CSI Effect" in criminal prosecutions. Juries believe what they see in CSI, so they expect to see things like enhanced video and other things. They wonder why the prosecution does not present all the evidence they see in the CSI shows. Defense attorneys actively search for jurors who watch CSI. i believe it.. i've got a general wavier now, but the times i've had to sit thru jury duty selection it was pretty obvious both sides were looking for the most gullable jury they could sit.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  24. hopefully it has a fairly easily breakable clasp.. otherwise it could also be your noose in the case of an unfortunate hangup wearing 550 cord without some sort of breakable clasp can be a serious strangulation hazard.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
