well since the managers are going to the World Games i think its safe to say it wont be open till sometime after that..... (not that them going is delaying it, but that the lack of activity means they have the time...) ps. GO Axis 21!!! ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

votes say NOTHING about ability to lead.. it simply means someone won a popularity contest.... would you get in a plane who pilot was 'elected' by the passengers, the majority of whom had only the knowledge of flight they learned from watching television? there are VERY few politicians who are actually good leaders.. real leaders tend to have issues with the backstabbing and 'spin' tactics nessesary to be elected to political office.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

News: Skydiving may be a turn off for women.
Zenister replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in The Bonfire
risky behavior is a turn off for women who want families, security and stability... DUH!! how much did they spend to do that? i could have told them that and provided empirical evidence.. nothing gets me out a potential relationship faster than a woman saying "i want kids"... but if you polled women who's focus was NOT 'having a family' but who are more interested in travel and personal experiences as opposed to the responsibility of raising children, the results would likely be exactly opposite.... unfortunately there are fewer of those and more men who are looking for them... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
heh.. no worries.. Jeff told me once someone sent him a link and said "just like that" so somewhere out there is another one just like mine i'll buy the next round just because you bought an infinity

if you dont try something for whatever reason (personal, religious, legal etc) you are depriving yourself of an experience.. it may be a good one or a bad one, and you will likely never know for sure, but you are STILL missing an experience.. actually not once did i imply that it carried no risk, nearly everything in life carries risk, even sitting on your couch all day.... i was simply reinterating the facts that clearly show the relative risk to be MUCH lower than substances that are legal.. hell, more people are killed by drivers running redlights each year, than have EVER been killed by terrorists, but which one do you think J.Q.Public believes is a greater threat to his life??? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

no i get it.. and actually you do.. reread your waiver if you doubt... but the point of this post isnt that someone ELSE might kill you (those number are so small as to be nearly meaningless, despite the recent tragedy) its that YOU might make decisions and choices that result in YOUR 'untimely' demise, and if it is the community's responsibility to 'protect you from your self' ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

whats your recommendation based on??? its certainly not based on experience??? sure it is, experience with the Law.. unfortunately legality doesnt necessarily mean 'good' or 'right' ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

wont help much... we are pretty much damned either way at this point because of the lack of vision in the last few administrations... it will take years to properly resupply/recover... good politician almost never equals good leader... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
I'm not trying to convince anyone.. simply pointing out that by some of the ridiculous double standards applied by american culture, "life" is 'bad' for you.... sorry... i'm going to enjoy it while it lasts... you can deprive yourself of all the experiences you wish... just dont look down on those who chose to partake of all the experiences they can.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

i've met your 'significant other', you should have LOTS of 'decent' video for the year end DVD.. runs and hides ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

it is, providing they ACTUALLY CLEAR their airspace.. if you miss someone by '10 feet' you did not clear your airspace. if someone else is forced to change their pattern because of your maneuver, you did not clear your airspace. if you are 'forced to take an out' and it screws up someone elses pattern, you did not clear your airspace. EVERYONE should be clearing their airspace EVERYTIME they make any maneuver under canopy. There is no tower to cross check you in skydiving, failure to 'keep your head on a swivel' and overall, general complacency is the real problem, not any specific set up technique... it simply becomes more critical as you approach the more congested landing area.. there is no excuse for not clearing your airspace regardless of your choice of approach. It should be a continual process, from the time your canopy opens to the time you enter the hanger, awareness is the most important habit you can cultivate... the low canopy always has right of way especially if you are making a high performance turn from a much higher altitude.. this developing 'witch hunt' against swoopers is ridiculous.. no matter what your approach method, if you fail to leave adequate room for your intended maneuver (and possible outs, what! you dont check your outs?? shame on you) you are wrong... period.. failure to look ahead, and failure to leave adequate spacing on landing (aka clearing your airspace) is the issue here, NOT any specific technique... turn radius is irrelevant, awareness is sometimes lacking... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

or waste our military resources, stifle our economy with a staggering war debt, and burn our international credibility by worrying about a two bit tyrant who was little threat to anyone outside his own country... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
i've done three, all when i was doing ALOT of 'trust fall' rappels and i was WAAAAAY more worried about the gear and the riggers than anything i've ever done skydiving, climbing, rappeling.... all in all i'd say bungee just isnt that exciting after the first exposure... if you think about it you could be completely unconscious and you'd pull the same 'stunt' ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

death is simply a part of every life, learning to accept it makes living that much easier.... if you risk your life for sport and pleasure, you HAVE to accept the fact that you may lose it... if you cant accept that simple fact then you should just stay on the couch and pray you dont die of heart disease... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

no but our administration has... unless you somehow believe we could reconstitute our armed forces in any sort of timely manner (read YEARS if not decades) to respond to possible chinese aggression.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
no it probably has more to do with the fact that the demonization attitude ingrained by our current cultural stance towards drugs has brainwashed many people into the mindset that they are evil and that anyone who does them must also be evil and therefore deserves the loss of freedom and liberty.... given the blatent intolerance and self appointed "safety nazi's" on this issue, no one involved wants to have to deal with someone they dont know spreading rumors about something that is REALLY no one else's business.. I hang out with, party, play and jump with people i trust. I do many things (but VERY few drugs, easily less than most who claim they 'never') that some might find distasteful, immoral, or otherwise. Some are legal, some are not... unless i trust you more than i trust the government, I'm not about to include you on anything not officially condoned. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

some people simply do not enjoy the 'morally superior' attitude many 'non-users' adopt... why would anyone ever wish to hang out with someone who judged them from such a position of ignorance and intolerance? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

I saw some interesting stats on an ABC News special hosted by Ted Koppel a few years ago. I couldn't find the ABC numbers online, but I found these which are very similar: Annual death rates: - Tobacco: 390,000. - Alcohol: 80,000. - All illegal drugs combined: 4,500 Source: http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/library/basicfax.htm#q3 exactly.. but as this thread illustrates so well, FAAAR too many people feel morally superior to others simply because they 'bought the party line' that asserts drugs are 'evil' ignorance really should be painful... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
-
everyone does drugs, legality simply depends on culture and jurisdiction.. neither of which have any real bearing on their value or experience... but wont stop anyone from feeling superior to some who makes different personal choices... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
