  1. Exactly. I tried facebook in 2008 -- lasted for 3 days. Last year I tried again, for three months. Then I realized my pre-facebook life was far simpler when co-workers were upset with me for not having friended them after a few days (I didn't log in for a few days). Then I visited some friends in Europe that I kept in touch with via facebook. One of them had 600+ friends. I hadn't seen her in years, and she sat at a table at the cafe with my friends, and hardly said a word because she was on her iPhone facebook app the whole time, keeping busy with her 600+ friends. This was the same person who would update her status on Facebook every hour with one useless thought after another. In any case, maybe you should give it a try -- you might be one of the vast majority of people who likes it. I have many real-life friends who do. if phone, email and text allow you to keep in touch, more power to you.. but fact is you are living in the dark ages.. Jumps from a boogie in Europe? I see video within an hour, pictures of new family? same. Updates to blogs, groups, musicians, current events, happen (because of my friends list and the fact they can broadcast, something you cant effectively do by the means you listed to interested parties in single action) for me in the same amount of time it takes someone to post about it. Family reunions are actually extremely pleasant, I dont need to spend hours 'catching up' instead I spend the few short hours with my extended family having new experiences. Why? because I already know everything (sometimes in painful detail) that has been going on with my family. by all means adopt a Luddite attitude, the only one losing out is you, and while it certainly not perfect, it has absolutely replaced nearly every other form of communication, is more effective (timewise and cost wise) than all the others combined. Where as text, email and voice used to be primary means of communication (and are still important and useful in specific context) FB has made them obsolete by doing everything better, more efficiently and with capabilities they could not. it also allows me easy interaction with those I actually WANT to talk to... imagine DZ.com (social) composed of only the members you ACTUALLY LIKE with the ability to completely remove those you dont want to interact with... that is exactly what Facebook is for me. The drawbacks of FB are easily overcome by informational awareness on your part... if you dont like someone, dont want them to see what you do on weekends, how hard you party, what you really think etc...... DONT FRIEND THEM, and sack up in the real world and tell them you dont like them and therefore you really dont want to be their friend on Facebook either. also:rude is just rude... ignoring someone you are out with because you are posting on facebook is no different than ignoring them by texting or talking on the phone... if the people you are with are doing this, you need to find real friends... ofc it cuts both ways.. I knew within minutes I'd lost a friend today... sometimes I'd rather just not know until I sit down to 'digest' everything else in the world... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  2. I was speaking to your flippant attitude about the CHILD being dosed with a drug, not anything about a train. Show me medical evidence that the same amount of THC an adult can handle, is the same that a child can. Other than that, you are just hoping and guessing. A glass of wine compared to body weight and blood volume is quite deadly to a small enough child. An adult can drink several bottles of wine. you just answered and are arguing with yourself now.. LD50 is based on BODY WEIGHT, age is irrelevant. but continue down your usual path of ignorant emotional outrage because 'ITS A CHILD" So you ARE ok with giving a kid some weed then. BTW - you might need to stop smoking long enough to re read - There are no inferences to a specific age. There are/is reference(s) to body weight. Unless you you are saying that an average adult is the same weight and size as a 4 yearold? clueless as usual.. what part of LD50 dont you get? apparently all of it. Your question is answered by the MEASUREMENT ITSELF. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

    Pandora One

And is basic radio with all its crappy playlists, corporate driven agendas and all the commercials. No thanks. Pandora has a few commercials but minimal compared to terrestrial radio. I listen to it, my music library or CDs exclusively now. Beyond the occasional news channel I have no use for radio anywhere much less as an app ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  12. The more you travel the more distinct the seperation becomes. Friends And family are still friends and family and welcome you as always, but it is increasingly hard to relate. You have (perhaps) seen and done things they will never experience and cannot grasp at all. Concerns that dominate their lives (often unchanged years later ) seem trivial and petty. You've crossed an ocean while the place you were remained the same stagnant pool. "You can never step in the same river twice." Oddly enough it seems most of us use the same metaphor, having been away for years, and 'home' for a week, I spent a few days wandering around the state before going back to my parents house. My father asked me what I did.."haunted myself" was the first phrase that came to mind. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  14. and Lou is without a doubt a man who should know... Heat is my father's favorite modern movie as well. for reference here is Bob Anderson's filmography Bob Anderson Miscellaneous crew * Alatriste (2006): Sword Master * The Legend of Zorro (2005): Sword Master * The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003): Sword Master * Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003): Additional Sword Trainer o He can be seen speaking on the DVD special edition, 23m 30s into the 'making of' presentation. * The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002): Sword Master * Die Another Day (2002): Sword Master * The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001): Sword Master * The Parent Trap (1998): Fencing Consultant * The Mask of Zorro (1998): Sword Master * The Phantom (1996): Sword Master * First Knight (1995): Sword Master * The Three Musketeers (1993): Sword Master * By the Sword (1991): Sword Master * The Princess Bride (1987): Sword Master * Highlander (1986): Sword Master * Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977): Fight Arranger (uncredited) * Barry Lyndon (1975): Fencing Coach * Kidnapped (1971): Fight Arranger * Don't Lose Your Head (1966): Fight Arranger (uncredited) * The Moonraker (1958) Fencing Coach Stunts * Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983): Stunt Performer * Superman II (1980): Stunts (uncredited) * Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980): Stunt Double for Darth Vader * Candleshoe (1977): Stunt Arranger (uncredited) * Star Wars (1977): Stunts/Stunt Double (uncredited) * One of Our Dinosaurs is Missing (1975): Stunt Arranger * Kidnapped (1971): Fight Arranger * Casino Royale (1967): Stunts (uncredited) * From Russia with Love (1963): Stunts (uncredited) * The Guns of Navarone (1961): Stunts (uncredited) * Il, Maestro Don Giovanni (1954): Stunts * The Master of Ballantrae (1953): Stunts (uncredited) Actor * Reclaiming the Blade (2009): himself * Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980): Imperial Officer * Candleshoe (1977): Hood (uncredited) * Doctor Who (1968): Fighting Guard in the serial The Enemy of the World Compare these movies with those pretty much any other (western) film involving swords, there is simply no competition. They aren't all great movies, but the swordwork is all very believable even from an expert's view, and many of the ARE EXCELLENT movies in their genre even when they dont involve swords. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  15. I was paraphrasing Lucas himself. But, whatever. I'm done here, you can take it up with him. no need. it is well documented that Lucas sold his soul to the toy manufacturers and fired pretty much the entire creative team that made the original trilogy great. Perhaps YOU should do some research into some of the boneheaded ideas that he would have done with the original trilogy if he'd had the same kind of complete control over them he did over the prequels. The original trilogy was great IN SPITE of Lucas, not BECAUSE of him or perhaps you were unaware he edited Ep IV in the digital release in one scene that completely changes the character of Han Solo? Who shoots first? Why? spend the next 70 minutes watching this 1 of 7@ 10 min each, its more worth your time than all three of the prequels and funny to boot.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxKtZmQgxrI ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  16. nothing to do with jump numbers, this isnt a skydiving discussion, the topic is 'Best film fight scene ever' and you bring up ANYTHING from the Starwar prequels, and then slander the original by ignorantly comparing it to a very detailed, extremely planned out engagement intended from the start to be a showdown between to masters (there are real world duels between samurai who stood for 30+ min waiting for the blink the opening, the suki (in Japanese terminology, the place where your awareness stops and you become vulnerable) and eventually stood down, bowed and walked away as they recognized the parity of skill between them) with less movement than the stare down between Obiwan and Vader and those historical duels are EXACTLY what was being referenced, there are interviews with Bob Anderson from shortly there after that state exactly that. The swordwork in ep IV was subtle for a reason, a master doesn't need flash and show, and knows those only distract his focus and give the opponent opportunities that other wise wouldnt exist. However even the little 'action' that took place illustrated that Vader was still less than Obiwan (not 'Outmatched' as you claimed at all) and let the astute observer recognize that Obiwan let himself be killed intentionally for the larger purpose. The prequels destroyed the subtly of the original trilogy and made the entire saga into a cartoon both in plot, character and depth and yet you claim the juvenile fight scenes full of flash, lacking substance in character and plot elements (both in content and character development) who's actors swing their weapons as if they were holding brooms or golfclubs are superior? THAT is why I refereed to you as 'noob', one who does not know of what they speak. It's not 'great work' its pandering, playing to the lowest common denominator, destroying the suspension of disbelief necessary to capture an audience. Great work, Great Art, utilizes substance AND style, challenges the viewer to understand what happened. There is a reason why most of the old classics STILL outweigh the modern movies, and its because the artists, the directors and the writers are dumbing down their content for the viewers like you who would rather be wowed by special effects, the latest toy, the flavor of the month technology, than make a great movie. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  18. Oh yea its Bob Anderson as sword master ;) There is a one two coupe double point to throat in That scene a vvery complex series of feints for a trained fencer at speed much less and actor. The fencing in princess bride is top notch. Rather than waste another post on the noob who prefers flash over substance in his fight scenes, I'll simply state your preference for ANY of the swordwork in the prequels vs the original series reveals exactly how little You know about swordplay. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  19. No way, Vader vs Obi-wan on Mustafar was much, much better. We'll not talk about Vader vs Obi-wan on the Death Star, however. As sword work goes the death star fight was the most accurate in any StarWars movie. Two masters facing each other botheknowing that it takes an opening that is imperceptible to lesser trained swordsmen and the fight is over with a single stroke. Just ad with all things Hollywood prefers flash over substance and o swords work now looks like amateurs swinging axe handles instead of razor sharp steel that will kill You before you know you've been cut much less a scifi lightsword that would be far more dangerous for its user as well as his opponent. Nonsense. The fight was dull because Obi-wan knew he was overmatched, so his only goal was to survive long enough to allow Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie, and the droids to make it back to the Falcon. Once they were safely by the spacecraft, he surrendered and allowed Vader to cut him down. On Mustafar they were both out for blood, and equally skilled, and thus the fight was much more exciting. So, what you're saying is, you're both virgins ? What I'm saying is over the past 38 years I've earned a B rating from the USFA (US Fencing association. A rating is Olympic level), a Nidan in Kendo (USKF Kendo Federation), a Shodan in Iaido (no formal governing body in the US), spend 3 months in Japan learning with one of the last schools that teaches Kenjitsu and Iaijitsu the more directly combat related styles vs practice forms of Kendo/Iaido modern 'sport' equivalents. As well as studying Chinese, Korean and Philpino styles of swordwork. I've easily spent more money than most people spend on their cars on sharp steel and certainly more than your average skydiver spends on their gear in a lifetime in pursuit of my 'hobby'. All of the above inspired by Erroll Flynn, Japanese Samurai movies, Chinese Kung Fu theater and yes the original Star Wars movie. what the rubes like bdb2004 never seem to understand is real sword work IS NOT exciting to an untrained eye. It is fast, deadly in a very few (usually the first actual engagement which is why waiting for the opening, or creating the distraction to force it is fundamental) passes (and often resulted in mortal wounds for both combatants in the Japanese style due to the type of weapon and their mental approach towards combat) and looks entirely unimpressive to a western audience's untrained eye. The man inside the Vader suit for the original Starwars was a world renowned swordsman, fencer, kendokai and eventually fight choreographer Robert Anderson. A great deal of thought was put into every motion in that fight scene and infact every time Obiwan draws his lightsaber, as to how it defined the character(s). In the initial engagement between Obiwan and Vader has Vader very much on the defensive, responding to cuts to the hands and wrists and unable to take any real aggressive action, but this subtlety is entirely lost on western audience and untrained viewers. Obi wan deliberately sacrifices himself (following Starwars mythology) because he knows what that 'act' will do and how it will allow him to continue to influence the future in a way he can no longer. Compare this to the prequels (that I took the middle school kids I was coaching at the time to see) and it is obvious how silly and theatrical the fight scenes had become. Even these children with less than a hundred hours of practice were laughing at the obvious openings and outright ridiculous blade positions and moves being made by the supposed 'best warriors in the universe' If you care about swordwork and its use in Hollywood, look up Bob Anderson and compare the movies he was a part of with everyone else, apart from the Japanese and Chinese produced movies you wont find better swordwork on film anywhere. For a perfect example of of restraint, excitement in a fight scene but with enough reality to keep the advocate's interest, watch the Jet Li Fearless movie.. while it is Chinese not Japanese sword work at nearly every instant involving a sword the character deliberately (and exaggeratedly for the audience sake) declines the killing stroke. It is a wonderful movie based on a real man as pivotal to the expansion and development of wushu chinese martial arts as Bruce Lee.. some 70 years later. ps. Swordwork, fencing, kendo (and the travel I've done to study it) has gotten me laid FAR more often than skydiving has, and by women in significantly better shape and fitness ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  21. The Big Boss. The point about real fights is valid and part of the reason I Can't watch "ultimate" fighting anything. In the real world people break easily, often in terminal or crippling manner. "Sport" fightings rules and movies make it seem like you can pummel each other for hours and come back for the match next week. All the lethal strikes taught by the combat styles (from many cultures) are illegal ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
