There have been Army studies of wound ballistics using live animals. Thousands of them. Yech. That's where those wound energy numbers come from. You can readily calculate the energy, in foot-pounds, of a fired bullet using the factors of mass and velocity. And then compare that to the results of those wound studies. I'm sure today's animal rights activists would have a fit over those studies... they use a gel block now that has the same density and resistance to penetration as a human body. Last time I was at the range with my father they had some out there for the new sherrif trainees to see the effects from various rounds. I'm not sure how expensive they are, but it wouldnt be to hard to do the 'drop' experiement from various heights until it began to penetrate. no it appeared to be at a slight angle as i recall and hit with enough force to penetrate the skin of the hood but not pass thru...(i may be able to get the insurance photos from her to post) we didnt here any shots fired, but of course we were also driving and it hit the hood within a second or so of us pulling in. (my door was closed but she had not shut hers yet.) ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

although you're sarcastic, you're not incorrect... such truth did come from God... snear if you will... Just want to add that it was the church which prayed that the earth was flat and let Galileo be tortured and held prison for the last 8 years of his life for being a heretic. Can't help asking myself if the line to God was broken back then... and of course no one expects the spanish inqusition!!!! auto de fe any one?? sorry to drunk to spell correctly tonight... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

i have a 9mm round my sister and i "collected" from the hood of her car on the 4th of July. we went to the groc to get more alcohol as we get out and shut the doors we hear a loud "tink" and notice the hood suddenly has a crease...low and behold it also has a dent and a 9mm round in it.. since i doubt the tensile strength of the human skull exceeds that of that hood (which it did penetrate slightly) if that round had been a few feet either way one of us might not be here.... "celebratory fire" should be treated as attempted manslaughter whenever anyone is caught doing it... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

In America this is a trend in the Northern States...not as much in the South. From my undersanding, the majority of Europe still has a very strong following in the Catholic Church. its very strong in the south actually churchs are realigning to attract worshipers but its mostly the older generations moving to which ever has the best, newest, most expensive buildings as if that brings them closer to god.....gen X has long since given up on most of the archaic religious dogma and the institutions it supports ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

actually Dave there is a very good screw top wine i've drunk the groc out of 3 times in the last 2 weeks... Ca de Solo -Big House Red.. about $9 most places and better, richer tasting than many $20 bottles i've had. Its a blend of several cali grapes... i'd also have to recommend 2 Brothers Big Tattoo Red.. another $9 bottle thats also a blend of grapes (from Chile this time) and another wine that we drank them out of while they restocked the Ca del Solo.... damn i've turned into such a lush since the redhead got here...

oh ah...almost forgot... do duels count yes it was certainly silly and immature but there were quite a few of us in college that were rather enamored of the practice and so I managed to be a primary in 3 and a second in 4 others.... only once i was every really frightened (which should have been a big hit from the cluestick, but the others ended in minor cuts, with one required visit to the ER and not on my part.) about was the day we decided swords would not be sufficient and used a pair of antique dueling pistols recently purchased at an auction (the newness, novelty and the rum might have had something to do with why swords didnt 'cut it' anymore) and so once an excuse, another second and a judge was found, Jeph and I were merrily off to fire on each other fortunately beyond the basics of loading and priming we really had no idea how to properly pack a smooth bore round for accuracy so other than the noise, smoke and cold sweat, we did not earn a nomination from Darwin that day... although my father nearly killed me 2 weeks later when it managed to get back to him, so i guess that incident counts as 2 'near death experiences' ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

you just defined the american political process, the same one you support when it goes your way...if your tired of letting the mindless mass determine your fate you need to advocate a system of government that isnt left in the hands of the lowest common denominator... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -

You're dead. You have no say in the matter. Grief does strange things to some people minds. Any lawyers out there? Would a statement in a will be legally sufficient to keep an heir from suing or working toward legislating or banning skydiving? dont need to be a lawyer to know it all depends on the money and the advertising machine behind it. (and how other skydivers react as well, with acceptance or do you add fuel to the litigious environment?) However a rather plainly worded statement of your intent would reveal those motives for exactly that, a grief stricken emotional response with little legal bearing in the face of a statement that plainly shows your understanding and acceptance of the inherent risks... and would make your SO look rather foolish as they pursued further unwanted legal actions... its been asked before, but how many people have NOT explained their reasons and motivations in this sport to their families? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

well if your intelligent you dont simply take a single opinion or advice as gospel, no matter how much that opinion agrees or disagrees with your desire. YOU weigh your experience and skills against the risk you take, and weigh the value of the advice you receive as well.. if you want to protect the sport stand uniform when ANYONE tries to sue in violation of a signed waiver that clearly states you can die doing this and understand and accept the risks. "you paid your money, you take your chances..." As many have done talk to your parents, SOs and have statements in your will that specifically state your understanding and acceptance of the risks involved and that you would not agree to any legal action based on your acceptance of these risks. Fight it right where it starts, at the legal level and DO NOT bow down to the pressure that says its societies role to protect you from yourself, and legislate your freedom out of meaningful existence. The reason we have the litigious society we do is because everyone is only worried about covering their asses and not standing up against the basic wrong and social injustice of unwarranted lawsuits against those participating in voluntary activities.. if you cant accept the risks (physically, emotionally, personally and legally) then dont get in the plane ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

i'll take all the guidance available. and still make the decision that applies best TO ME and what i consider to be acceptable risks. if running with scissors made me happy i'd be out doing it with the pair that gave me the most joy, no matter how many people (With or without eyepatches) told me "you'll put out an eye like that". Personal responsibility means YOU have to seek knowledge for yourself, not have it handed down in the pre-chewed bits from an overly protective organizations that makes blanket rules tell you what is just enough or to much for YOU. This also means you have to engage the bits of flesh between your ears and accept or reject the lessons you find. Our continuing litigious society is exactly the reason we should be a a group saying NO. Every participant has signed a waiver and understands the risks they take..if that means big bold words with no long syllables then so be it...you either accept the risks or you do not and if you do not then dont get in the plane in the first place... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
