there is ALOT wrong with his methods, same thing that is wrong with all such polls, they DONT poll the target group, only the subset that is inclined to respond to polls. is that sub group representative? statisticians assume so, but that does not make it so. What are you going to do have a poll to see who responds to polls? There is no control group to test the reliability of the data against. Other polls? Same issues and its equally immaterial if the poll is here or in person, or even were completely unanimous it still isn’t targeting the group (or even a representative sample) he's attempting to characterize. The number of subsets of his 'target' group he's actually reaching here, online, thru this one site, over the limited period of time his poll will stay visible, make these numbers even less representative of skydivers as a whole... there are far to many errors to accurately be 'corrected' (assumed) for, but of course reality never hinders a statisticians or their assumptions at all… ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Meaning people lie, and give answers that make them seem more...(can't think of the right word) wholesome? (ie: Some people on here are voting "No" when really they do indeed smoke?) perhaps, there is no real way to know. There is also no way to know the number of people who saw the thread title, realize its a topic we've beaten to death a number of times note large herd of equine corpses decomposing in the corner and move on without ever opening it. generally these kinds of threads only get strong opinion posts, how many people do you really think will give you a strong opinion on something they can be arrested for admitting?? How many people just wont bother to open the thread at all…a poll is only representative of the sub group of people who respond to polls, not the group your really trying to poll… sure you can base conclusions off it, and many major organizations do all the time when it supports their agenda to do so, but do you really think it counts as data or even a representative sample? see the inherent problems with this kind of 'poll'? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

if you use the numbers you'll get from this kind of poll in any sort of research paper your only contributing to the continual propagation of poor research techniques, misinformation and the invalid conclusions they generate. If your writing an opinion paper you really dont need any 'facts' or pseudo-facts to support it in the first place. again if you really want the info do a search and count based on responses, its not that hard and most people wont bother to type out the same reply again and again. Also as this is a public forum and your asking about an illegal activity the answers you'll find are likely to be far more conservative than those suggested by ones experience of reality.. IMLE on pretty much every controversial topic: drugs, sex, alcohol, wingloading/jump #s etc.. the trend here (or any public website where you can be IDed by your posts) is far more conservative than the reality. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

There is/are no repost police. was a joke really, i never cared either way although it did help to bring the original threads back up instead of creating yet another one on the same subject.... i'm bored this afternoon, maybe i'll sift thru the site to see what the most 'reposted' thread topic is...or maybe not..could just postwhore.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

Is Bush's use of 9/11 footage in campaign ads in poor taste?
Zenister replied to PhillyKev's topic in The Bonfire
no not really, just the typical political exploitation... although it was a tactical error to be the first one to use it, now everyone else can see how bad the fallout is before they decide to release their version using it was well.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -

both, but as i argued far to often with someone who's excuse for not commiting to anything was "i dont make plans" you cant do anything really epic without some level of planning (or an obscene amount of cash) a trip to the zoo...no planning required.. Rafting the Amazon?? local bar band? no planning nessesary opening night at the Philharmonic?? 3 way fun jump? fuck it lets huck it... 3 point 200 way?? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

but see the problem is it really does..it requires far more effort to kill someone with a melee weapon than a firearm. In the same way it is easier to kill with an edged weapon than a blunt one. Economy of motion and energy = efficiency. Just not in the way the anti-gun platform tries to use it. again the weapon does, when you focus on the relatively simple actions required to kill someone with a fire arm (point and squeeze, small motions of small muscle groups) vs those with a melee weapon, the mental conditioning/attitude is common to any weapon type, but if firearms weren’t more efficient we wouldn’t continue to build them, train with them and continue to improve them in the name of further efficiency, swords are still easier to make, maintain and repair...and yet no major military academy even teaches fencing anymore…. scopes DO bring it closer and so make it more personal, but short of bombing/ artillery there isnt much less directly impersonal way to end some one than aiming center mass over open sights at a small blur some 400 yds away.... a slight pause in breath and a slow squeeze......rather simple steps and simple to perform when you focus on each individual actions instead of the human cost. The distance that separates you from the tgt and the focus on each step of the process mean you dont have to think about what happens downrange, until its to late to really matter who or what you were really aiming at...... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -

i did something similar.. outprocessed at Ft. Stewart, finished early in the morning, climbed in the Uhaul towing my car and everything i owed and drove to my parents house in AL still in uniform...pulled up climbed out and dove straight into the pool where i left my uniform, boots, everything at the bottom of the pool.... for more than a week until my mother couldnt stand it..... those boots are now the most comfortable pair i've ever worn. although after a week in the chlorine i dont think they will ever shine properly again... so back on topic... that cant be all the infinities out there...i've got a few other toys in the que but I'm already playing with colors for another 'uglier' infinity in the near future... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

why do you jump out of an airplane? Why is the sky blue? I know my reasons... so why do people need guns in general? Nobody has even come close to an answer? because the 'other guy' has them and as much as it sucks the only defense against incoming fire is more accurate outgoing.. honestly i hate firearms generally (but i recognize them as a necessary evil) i dislike any weapon that gives a relatively untrained individual the same lethal potential as a professional warrior. Ever actually stabbed/been stabbed by anyone? Ever had someone look at you with the intent to end your life? Ever been in a real "someone isnt walking away from this fight" ? most people havent, and firearms make violence less personal, more distant and so far easier to stomach for everyone... you never have to see their eyes before you kill them, and all it takes is such a simple action..... but guess what? you cant put the genie back in the bottle.....no matter how hard you wish you could....to keep yourself and those you love safe you train to a standard higher than your enemy and that means learning to shoot shoot safely and more accurately than your average street thug who might have fired his weapon in anger far more times than you ever will, but spends little to no time at the range actually learning how to use it. if you take the ability to train with your only real means of protection from law abiding citizens.....well, the results should be obvious to the perceptive individual. Its not as if the criminals are going to turn in their guns or stop using them simply because you pass a law against it... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
nah...i'm in the typical Courtyard Marriot with lots of corporate tools (breakfast is really interesting.. all these pressed shirts and ties and then the 2 FE's with long hair and goatees in shorts and tshirts after our morning run... you'd think they'd realize our customers (mostly military) are far more impressed with our 2 mile time (we work with soldiers in the field, so we train to keep up with them as well) the relationship we build with the end users (soldiers) and actual experience vs how well their ties match each others but nooooooooo.... I guess thats why we keep getting better contracts and have higher salaries than some of the other government contractors i've worked with...one upper end exec (from another firm) actually choked when i outlined our salary structure and i was lowballing him.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

hmmm 'Zen' was the way my earliest sensei decided best translated my last name/personality i used to sit quietly in seiza and listen around the dojo alot while everyone else was goofing off more from shyness as a kid than any inherent understanding, that came much later with lots of practice.... and it fit great in the 3 letter scoreboards video games all had at the time.. 'sinister' used to be a way of saying 'left handed', which i tried to become as an experiment in high school (I can now do most things equally proficiently with either hand, but if you throw something at me I’ll probably catch it with my right, couldn’t train that out..) and as a way of cross training when i was fencing competitively "oh your being all sinister this afternoon i see" 'Zenister' someone slurred one day at party and i ‘adopted’ it as it fit in the 8 character fields video games now had... 'Rans' is actually short for my real name 'Ransome', but i adopted 'Randy' for most business purposes as it got to be a pain to explain the family history every time i met someone... lately i've been using my real name more and more everywhere (I always did with my friends) and just not explaining it unless someone really wanted to know... hmmm this might be the 4th or 5th time we've gone thru this topic.... i think the repost police have given up on it ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

i agree, although i have learned to keep my feedback to myself unless its asked for... if i absolutely love something I’ll certainly tell you how much I enjoyed it, but I’m not going to tell you how badly it sucks (and possibly ruin someone else’s experience of it) unless some one asks for feedback, most video posts seem to be "hey look what i made!" and there is no reason to criticize such posts or videos unless that is what the creator wants from the forum... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
