has it had a porosity test recently? I just send a stilleto to a friend to use as a cover that was so porous you could feel a ceiling fan through it... even with a new line set it was not airworthy... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

small movement forward can be accomplished by pushing your head back.. this puts the top of your shoulder blades and head 'into the wind'. Physically it is very similar to the motion you accomplish by pushing your hips forward, just less pronounced.. another method to train this is while standing have someone (strong) support the back of your head.. lean into their hands.. to do this without moving your feet you will HAVE to push your hips forward.. 'flocking' sitfly/stand dives are a great way to practice this in the air... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

thats is a big part of the immersion in the world and culture... there are some good websites that can help if reading a 'glossary' makes it easier for you... it's quite probablly one of the most influential and literary science fiction works ever... In depth of meaning, character and plot development, i'd rank Herbert higher than Tolkien no matter how many flaming arrows get shot at me because... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

nothing formal, but of the 40 or so people on my IM, about half of them are friends i share, trade and talk to about books.... actually it usually bleeds over into art, movies and life in general, but it started with books.. at this point Ive met most of them in person but for many our friendship began by discussing various writers and literature on now defunct webboards.. Currently reading: Gene Wolfe Endangered Species Italo Calvino The Baron in the Trees just finished the Dune:Machine Crusade and a couple of good mind candy books by Steven Brust. Also rereading A book of Five Rings and Zen Flesh, Zen Bones as those always helps me recenter and i'm waaaay off lately.... grrr just realized i owe a dz.commer a book list... edit to add my yahooIM: yaguaraz if here wants to discuss books... or anything really... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

I agree, and i think you can tell alot about someone by the definitions they operate under. Sometimes it is almost as if we are speaking different languages using the same words.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

we dont need apostrophes. If you cant distinguish between 'youre' and 'your' without an apostrophe, you, are, blind. wouldnt, wont, cant, couldnt, doesnt. Explain why apostrophes are necessary. Try not to start with “We’ve (just for you but it doesnt matter) ALWAYS done it that way!!! care to attempt to defend contractions??? or do you admit that USAGE is what creates your precious rules, and that they can and will change, no matter what those who are slaved to the current set rail about. You still dont see it, and likely never will. Your profession is that of a proofreader and you claim i said the rules "go out the window?? try again, this time read for COMPREHENSION instead of picking apart the structure simply on the basis of " that’s not the way i was trained to build it" .......eyes and mind so wide and so tightly closed.... What you still fail to grasp is. i understand very very well, but i accept that they are neither static nor mandatory, except when the lack of them interferes with the clear communication of meaning. I'm not creating a 'new form of art' at all, all forms of human expression ARE Art.. but you dont see that either..... i was wrong, you wouldnt look at a Van Gogh and say the colours were wrong. You would scarcely notice them at all and instead spend your time examining the frame. And yes, believe it or not, for the most part, my usage is intentional. Simply because YOU might not like the way I design my sentences and paragraphs, in no way makes them poorly constructed. In fact they express my thought MUCH better than if I broke them down to conform to your rules…the end result is clearer, more accurate communication, than is allowed by inflexible rules of grammar and punctuation. You do it yourself, every time you CAPITALIZE for emphasis… Since youre ‘in the business’, would a proofreader from the 1800s be able to do your job? Or would he have to learn new conventions? how about the reverse, would you be able to proofread a document from the 1800s? or would they say your ‘corrections’ were wrong?? Step away from the nature of your business and look outside… you might understand the point I’ve been making all along ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

ok, your in FL, wander over to Melbourne, or across the way to Tampa, or really to ANY military base. Go find ANY military leader (NCO or officer) and ask them if they are still doing things the way they did five years ago. Then ask them if they have changed the manuals to reflect that. If they are AF, the answer will be YES, or "we are in the process of doing so" if they are Army (and they are involved at all, many simply dont care...) the answer will be... "ummm i dont know TRADOC hasnt gotten back to me on that" there is a serious lack of progress in the Army on catching up... The new stuff is right as of the time its published (go look up ABCS if your interested. i helped write and review a good portion of what applied to the systems I work on, and you might be surprised at how much has changed since you were in.) getting the older FMs changed quickly (as in under 10 years for the Army) damn near takes an act of congress... ever tried? Did you put in for a single revision while you were in the Army? Every soldier can make suggestions, correct obvious errors and offer improvements. They go through a peer review process by recognized Subject Matter Experts (both military and civilian) and then get put into TRADOCs hands.... As contractors WE write the revisions to a number of TMs, but we are still not the approving authority and cannot publish and distribute them unless manual revisions were specifically addressed in the contracts. As a result, even when the TMs are up to date the FMs on how to apply the systems are not... there are IEWS FMs for the Army that still refer to OV1D Mohawks!!!! ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

what it changes is the definitions he offered are outdated and obsolete, and the manuals havent caught up yet. sometimes going 'by the book' will get you in a great deal of trouble. I prefer to trust the people who still actually work on the ground and in the sky. sucks being on the bleeding edge, but its alot more interesting.... 5 years between revisions....10 since the last.... yea thats cutting edge... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

not at all.. its just frustrating because it emphasizes the pace at which written doctrine and documents are updated inside the Army. Some of the simple spelling and acronym fixes we (the JTF) put in for FMs 34-1, 34-3 100-103, 100-6 and particularly 34-25-1 more than five years ago still havent been applied. The Air Force is much more responsive in this regard, and the JCS manuals were published more recently so included our changes in their first editions... some of the soldier training manuals for a few of my systems were 'completed' nearly four+ years ago as well... wanna know when they came out?? April 04.. care to guess how many pages of revisions we have for them already??? Believe me its a very sore subject....there arent alot of things i get bent about...dragging ass on information that can help save soldier's lives is one of them.... what is being taught, and put into practice on the modern battlefield is far different. As are the documents for other services..fortunately. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
